It's hit or miss. I know that a lot of the plastic used for shrinkwrap in the 80's and early 90's was pretty crappy and would greatly shrink over time and also stick to the jackets thusly ruining them when peeled off.
Thanks for your input!

If they're sealed how to you know that there the rare variants you think they are?
I purchased them from top rated sellers with 100% feedback. I'm sure the majority of their buyers open them up to verify it's the actual variant. Do you believe after many years of being sealed, it can cause damage to the vinyl?
-
I know I'm pretty late on this topic. Reading some of this is starting to worry me now. I have purchased some rare sealed vinyl many years ago from ebay, which I've spent $100's on each one. Extremely rare variants, and kept them sealed in storage to this day. Is the tight shrink wrap honestly going to stick to and damage the cover, and warp the record itself? They are all stored in cardboard mailers tightly against each other in moving boxes and plastic storage totes. Should I open them up ASAP??

I'd pay stupid money for that white Operation Phoenix. Just saying in case anyone with one is looking to sell.
I payed a ridiculous amount for it eight years ago on ebay. Ballads From The Revolution as well. I monitor ebay often looking for some rare 7" splits to complete my GR collection. I never seen another OP after that. I hope you find one someday.

I
I have vinyl from other bands framed as well, but in storage at the moment. As soon as I get a bigger place with more wall space, I will display them.

I clicked on "image bar", typed my url off my pics, clicked post, and nothing. I still must be doing something wrong. I shouldn't have to upload them to fb first.

This is just one of them. The Operation Phoenix (white vinyl) is super rare.

I post pics by uploading them to facebook (set to private), and then copy the url and paste it here.

Just upload them to tinypic and then post the message board code in here. I want to see this rare fat shit.
I tried by clicking the little image bar, typed in my URL off my pics, clicked post, and nothing. I must still be doing something wrong.

Christ. Can we see some pictures?
I am still new to this. If you tell me how to post pics on here. I will show a couple.

So the first lp played perfectly fine before you shipped it Deep Blue? That sucks it arrived cracked to the buyer! If it played without problems, that is great to know.
-
Thanks for your honest feedback and giving me a peace of mind!
-
zeph was joking, your records are probably absolutely fine and in great condition. I would watch for ring wear down the line though if they're tightly in there.
-
Have I missed something? What are the "valuable" records in question that Joey J. are/is talking about?
Mostly 90's Fat Wreck Chords first pressings colored vinyl. Very limited.
-
I have the Good Riddance- Phenomenon Of Craving (blue vinyl). I never played it. The guy I purchased it from described it as- used/ like new condition. I have it on black, and thinking about parting with this one. I thought about selling it on ebay. What are you willing to offer?
-
Hard to say without seeing but generally things framed in this manner have a lifespan of around 16 - 18 months. After that period they'll still look fine in the frame but will likely be unplayable. For this reason most people choose the single glass frames, which have a much longer lifespan (with regards to future playability).
What I do when I want to use the nicer double glass version is frame the jacket but use some construction paper and cut colored 12" circles to match the vinyl color. It's hard to duplicate the art on the labels but at first glance most people won't even notice. This only works for standard colored variants. You'll need paint supplies for splatter and marbled records.
TL;DR Your records are probably fine.
They have been in double glass for about 4 years now. They are on display next to the framed poster's of those albums. I fought hard on ebay many years ago to win most of them. Dished out a lot for each one, which I never seen another for sale again. I can either look at them as a piece of art, or thousands of $ down the drain. Screw it! From what I've heard so far, I guess trying to play them is no longer an option.
-
I assumed this was the main topic. It's just too bad I framed the most rarest valuable ones. Oh well, lesson learned.
-
I have extremely rare colored vinyl framed in double glass frames I purchased from Michaels to display on my walls. They have been framed for years now. I was just contemplating if I was to ever remove them, will they be damaged if I was to play them? I know the double glass is applying a lot of pressure on the vinyl. I also have sealed records framed also. Will this totally ruin them? Warping, ring wear?

Where'd you get the test? Also interested whether the clear actually exists or someone just looked at the stock picture and assumed. That's the same pic merch now uses for the white.
The test came from a good friend who has a connection. The clear definitely does exist. It's a Germany exclusive, which makes it difficult to ship to the states.
-
Updated OP with links to LPs. Also added a link for a clear version may exist in Germany. Anyone order the Finest Vinyl bundle?
I've tried contacting Finest Vinyl about possibly ordering the clear version to add to my collection. I am not able to order directly because it seems they don't ship to the United States. I have all four variants plus a test press. All I am missing to fully complete my collection is the clear version. I asked them if they would make an exception, but no response.
-
Anybody have any idea when they think the pre-order will go up for sale? I can't wait to hear this, plus add "Pursuance" to my other O.C. colored LP's!

I totally agree that Fat should release a Good Riddance box set. They are my favorite band. They should also release a No Use For A Name box set as well. They deserve it. I was fortunate enough to get the Lagwagon colored set. It is still sealed. Maybe I'll find a good trade for it later on for vinyl I'm in need of. The Strung Out box set is a bit steep on the price, but I figure if your a true fan like I am, it's worth having. Think of the huge fans and collectors overseas. They have to really dish out for shipping.
-
i missed the lagwagon set, wish i could find one decently priced.
now all Fat needs to put out is a Good Riddance box set....
-
I'm sure not too many people would want to part with just the jacket/cover. I had the x2 colored vinyl framed on my wall, and the cover was in my storage unit which someone has broke into and cleaned me out. I'm willing to buy the black version at a reasonable price, just to get the cover.

I'm searching for this vinyl with a sleeve in great condition. Willing to pay a decent amount. My copy recently was crushed pretty badly. The record itself is fine, just need a crisp sleeve.
