Hey, just stumbled onto this thread through doing some googling; been having the exact same problem with my brand new Marantz PM6004. Sometimes I turn it on and no hiss, other times I turn the unit on and there is massive hiss with the volume all the way down--a little tapping on top usually quiets it down...for a bit. Bigbruise, did you get a replacement unit/figure out what the problem was?
