I just picked up and Technics SL20 today from craigslist and it works decently except for 45 rpm. The speed is extremely fast where on 33 RPM I have no issues. Second problem is a little hard to describe, sometimes lower notes have a weird sound, not quite a wobble, but the sound just shifts off.

It looks like I'm finally going to get my first setup on Thursday, a Technics belt-drive turntable model SL-20 and a Realistic Amplifier/Tuner model STA-2700. I have three main questions. 1. The last time it was used was two years ago, but it was in working condition. I assume I'm going to need a new cart. Any suggestions? 2. Do I need a preamp with the amplifier? 3. How would I go about painting the plinth of the table? I don't know if I'm comfortable taking the thing apart yet, but would I need to?
