Not as fucking hard as using the internet to find the dimensions?
If you were a carpenter, you wouldn't have asked us.
Bitch about others trolling you? You caused it.
Hahahahahahhahahahaha. I can't get my head round the vitriol of people like you.
I know I can find the dimensions of a record - I wanted an idea of how much space they take up when they are on a shelf, in their sleeves, which isn't actually something that's easily findable online. I suppose I'd need to know the width of the individual record + the width of the card sleeve ( x2) + the width of the paper insert ( x2) + the average distance that is between records once they've been around a while and so aren't in perfect nick.
Regardless of all the pointless and pathetic unpleasantness, I still got an answer I couldn't realistically have found elsewhere, thanks to a couple of folks on here.
As fun as this has been, I'll be off now I have the simple answer I came for.

It's 14"
Take care
I can't check right now, but I think I have around 40 records in each shelving unit. But I also leave some extra space to make it easier to sort and shelve new records. So it gives you at least a hint.
Thanks guys, much appreciated
You see kids, it's not so hard!

No. You still want to know the depth of a stack of records. I don't think you're an actual carpenter.
Why would you suppose any of us know this off the top of our heads? We are not carpenters, nor do we collect records to stack them 50 high to measure them This is why your question is not being taken seriously. Another reason, as I and others have shown, is that this information can be easily found with the tiniest bit of research, which as the person responsible for creating this storage, we'd think you'd be interested in putting the effort forth to find.
Rather than wasting YOUR time making annoying comments at those of us here to not discuss carpentry, why don't you go to a record store or goodwill store or pound some keyboard keys and find your own answer?
You are off your head

All it takes is a single person with a tape measure and some records to take a moment and end this madness. Really though, picking a fight with someone who is asking for a simple measurement... what is wrong with you?
-
I still don't understand why your client didn't give you specific dimensions, though...
Legitimate question: Why don't you ask them how large it should be? That takes all the variables out of this equation.
Because I don't want to. Are we done yet?
-
Seriously. Records are 7", 10", or 12" wide. He wants a depth/thickness measurement... You'd think a carpenter would know the difference.
I want to know the width of a stack of 50 records. A 'stack of 50 records' is a different thing to 'a record'. Do try to keep up sweetie.

Generally speaking, one could go to the IKEA website (or any website that sells record storage specifically) and glean dimensions from the specs, too.
Err, yeah, I could find out the dimensions for an ikea product but that's not what I'm looking for. Do try to find something better to do with your time.

Thanks for your interesting and helpful comments Lilmuse and Brain Fuggler. Can't really understand why you're bothering to comment. It seems that, in a brilliant show of originality, creativity and general all-round being fucking awesome-ness, you decided to spend precious moments of your incredible lives to troll a forum thread. A thread about measurements. Bravo!

hi bigdz68,
cheers for your response! So the reason I'd like to know is I'm a woodworker and someone has asked for a custom record stand for 50 records. So I guess it's 50, in their sleeves, of mixed weight and probably a mix of flat lip and round edges (or whatever is more common) ? It doesn't have to be super exact. Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to help me out!

Pretty simple question I'd appreciate it if someone would take the time to answer...
basically I just need to know how tall a stack of 50 records is, please!
Cheers

There's loads of nice stuff on there and all anyone wants to go on about is either how i'm somehow a total shithead for sharing a pinterest page or go in to detail about the couple of things on there they don't much like. Bravo boys! Stick it to the man!

Awful. Just awful.
How has this redundant, pointless, attention whoring thread not been merged or locked yet?
Haha. Your getting really pissed about stuff that doesn't really effect u or do u any harm threshold is staggeringly low!
-
That looks too difficult to deal with.
It's true it's not ideal but then it's made of plastic storage boxes so could be pretty mega cheap
-
safe to assume it was because you didn't look and are only here to promote your pintrest page...
I'm just trying to get people to share vinyl storage and record stands on my pinterest page! Strike me down! Haha
-
dunno how I missed that :/ Nice to have photees and a more direct layout though, imo

I was thinking how it's pretty darn difficult to find any vinyl-related furniture that was either a) from IKEA or really super mega expensive. So I've started a public pinterest board sharing cool stuff I see (although must admit some of it's still on the expensive side but it's just beeeeeautiful). Anyone who wants to follow it or add to it is welcome! If you follow the board I'll make it so you can add pictures - If you find anything good online or in real life, please share it with the rest of us!
Cheers! Happy perusing

Eugh, you guys are actually gross. I wonder if you're as unpleasant in real life. Anyway, I'll merrily be on my way, and you, bless your souls, can fuck right off!
Cheerio darlings!
