  1. Well, everyone knew this one was coming...and going to be better. No offense, but if the quality of vinyl/sound/packaging was all that was important to Brand New fans they wouldn't spend over 200 dollars for a single 7". But this has been in the cards, so it wasn't a surprise. And the people it may surprise (BN fans that bought a cheap USB table just to listen to a single bands records) probably are more worried about getting every color than quality.

Also, since you were trying to sell your gold or trade it...it would seem like you don't really have much to say here in terms of market saturation. I'm sure your gold will still be worth money because there are people out there that want it. But I don't think it's the band/labels job to make records that allow for a great (i.e. insane) resale market.

i had no intention of flipping my gold copy. i was possibly going to see if i could trade it or something of the sort, but i bought it with the intention of it being somewhat of an investment. the market is going to be overly saturated and i basically lost money by buying that copy.

is it anyone's fault besides my own? barely. but i'm just really pissed the way the whole thing unfolded. incredibly sloppy, with the original pre-order going up with 0 details, then saying it's the white /3000. and then just giving out all these details after....it's so stupid. and i honestly can't help but feel it's intentional.

You buy records to listen to...if you're looking for investments there are a lot better places. Also, unless the gold was more than 25 dollars I don't see how you're going to lose money?

Basically, people are pissed because everyone was so excited and tried to grab every copy of the Triple Crown release. Now this release, the better one, is coming with more for people to empty there wallets. But again, anyone who really is a collector or BN vinyl listener knew this was coming.

If you feel really disenfranchised, throw yours up on Ebay. You'll make at least 100 dollars and that'll be a shame because as far as BN that's not a big turnaround. Take the money, and buy a copy or two of this release. Buy it to listen to though, because there can always be another release. This argument is like when someone pays 500 dollars for a first press and then a repress comes along. If you pay that much for a piece of vinyl, don't assume it's going to hold it's value. Simple.

PS: It's not intentional. The labels/band/pressing companies make no money when people flip buy every color and sell them. Triple Crown gets non of the 500% profit that people selling the gold are getting...AFS won't get any either. My point: if someone is willing to buy all 8 copies...that's their choice. I don't need every color. But with 5000, they'd sell them all even if they were all plain black.

  2. dumbest release in the history of records. serious cash grab all the way around. shitty release from the band way before a nicer version comes around to saturate the market. thanks for scamming everyone brand new. thanks.

  3. My European (solid colour) pressing isn't numbered.

I was under the impression that both the US & Euro coloured pressings were under 2000, but evidence suggests otherwise.

Yeah, apparently there is a lot of confusion with the Euro press because some have the sticker that says it's the violet color...and then they end up not being.

Also, as I've said I heard it was out of 2000 originally (the limited US violet one), but I've recently heard 5000. I also think on The National forum I saw someone had one that was stamped over 2000, like 2296 or something. Maybe 5000 is the total worldwide number or colored even though they vary?

As I said though, I'll be checking a local shop that wasn't on the map to see if they get a limited edition. If Beggars only sold 300, and there are more than 2000 a lot of stores could potentially get at least a copy in addition to the named places.

  4. Even people in the UK are struggling to get a copy on coloured vinyl. Apparently on version it says the colour on the sleeve, but not on the UK (so there’s no way of differentiating). My local store assumed they would have the violet, but on opening they were all black.

It's not just available from Rough Trade but from other independent stores, you could try ...

    www.banquetrecords.com

    www.recordstore.co.uk

    www.piccadillyrecords.com

But you may find you're better off with ebay, that's where I got my copy in the end.

Interesting. I just purchased one from Germany on Ebay. On the plastic sleeve it has a sticker that says it's on limited violet vinyl. I made sure to buy one that had a picture of the violet vinyl too.

I assume there is just the US press and UK press?

  5. http://www.roughtrade.com/site/shop_detail.lasso?search_type=sku&sku=325538

Rough Trade do have an online store, do they not ship to the US?

Also, with the price of the LP on there, that comes to $25 for the record, plus about $10 to ship a record to the US. $35 on eBay doesn't seem so steep after all.

True. I guess a lot of the Ebay ones the shipping was like 12-16 dollars. I know records were more expensive in the UK as well. I wanted to buy direct from rough trade, but there website doesn't specify if it's the limited color edition. And the contact us is just a telephone number (obviously international).

  6. Hey,

I'm looking for someone in the UK close to one of the Rough Trade locations or a record store that is carrying The National High Violet on the limited purple color vinyl. I'd pay cost, shipping, and a little extra.

The UK colored vinyl is vastly different than the US version, and being that they're my favorite band I'd really like to get this edition. I've seen them on ebay, but it's going to cost over 35 dollars that route.

    Please let me know!

    Thanks!

  7. I would love to buy that fucked up reel except you added the phrase "Act now" at the bottom of your "BUYITNOWIWANTMONEYARRGGHHH" auction which leads me to believe you are a douchebag.

not to mention you are selling Northface jackets so my suspicions are confirmed.

    free bump I guess.

Yeah, I think you're the sole owner of the douchebag award in this thread.. ::)

  8. Good luck on the American analog set stuff. I sold a bunch of stuff a little while ago. Couldn't get anyone here to bite at all. I think I sold the 7"s for like 10 bucks a piece

Yeah, I've always had an interest in some of there stuff. But I've been listening to them a lot lately, and really fallen in love. There stuff seems to command some high/ridiculous Ebay prices though. Hoping to track down some used LPs for a fair price.

  9. Hey,

So I've been working my way back into the forum. I'm looking to find some of my priority wants.

    Modest Mouse-Good News LP

    Passion Pit-Sleepyhead 7"

I'll update later, but that's the jist of it.

  10. I've already got mine preordered. They'll also have the violet at various independent stores, and the physical locations are listed on a map. Also, some record stores are getting one copy with a "violet ticket" good for 50 dollar credit at the store.

Also, I've heard the leak and this album is simply amazing.

Where are you seeing that map?

If you go to The National's website/High Violet page, there is a link to the map.

    http://www.highviolet.com/indieretail/

Also, I've ordered my copy of the repress of SSFDL. It comes in the original jackets (they found 500, hence the limited release for now) and with the poster. The difference is the record pressing (may be remastered) and label.

PS: Here are pictures of the violet pressing of High Violet...wow. ;D

  11. ^ the national are a pretty big band.

they've got 5 full lengths going back to '01... thats an easy way to build a pretty huge following.

that and they play all the major festivals

Yeah, that and the fact that as far as major indie releases this is really amongst the most anticipated. Even people that aren't huge fans of The National based on past albums are pretty excited as far as I can tell.

  12. this album is by owl city.

Every time I hear that band on the radio I think, oh shit a new Postal Service song, then I get pissed.

Same with Phoenix. Oh a new Of Montreal song, wait...grrr.

I hate both of those bands cause they just totally ripped off another bands sound, too close, wayyyyy too close.

I understand the Owl City/Postal Service comparison...but Phoenix and Of Montreal is a serious stretch in my opinion. First of all, Of Montreal has a lot (A LOT) of material and a lot of it is very strange. Not bad, but strange. Phoenix has a more mainstream sound, and their older albums show a progression to their current popular album. But yeah, that comparison doesn't make too much sense to me ???
