I have no problem getting the record out. What I have a hard time with is holding the sleeve open while trying to get the record back in by holding it the way people seem to say I should hold it. When I do this, it feels like it's going to fall out of my hands, slam into the sleeve, or it scrapes along the side of the sleeve. I was really just wondering if that's okay or if people had a trick to it. (The videos make a big deal about how to store it, how to take it out, how to clean it, how to put it on the turntable - none of them showed putting it back in.) I've taken shit care of my vinyl until now b/c it's mostly thrift store finds. But lately I've been investing in some decent records, and looking online, people are CRAZY about protecting them. One guy showed how to take it out of a sleeve by inserting another type of sleeve inside of it first! I mean, taking it out of a new sleeve scratches your records? Really? I didn't realize my question would be so ridiculous when compared to the fact that there are literally dozens of videos of people going to great lengths to care for their records.

Wow, great community! I guess I've learned my lesson. I'm stupid and I'll just go away now.

(Also, sorry about the double post - it didn't load the first time and so I clicked again...) So, it seems like I'm being too OCD or misunderstanding something here? People just hold the record and stick it back in the sleeve and touching the grooves is fine?

I have googled this topic and looked in multiple places and I can't find an answer anywhere. I've learned that I'm not supposed to handle the grooves directly, so I'm only holding the edges (using both hands) or holding the edge with my thumb or finger supporting the center. I'm able to get my records out of the sleeve and onto and off of the turntable without touching grooves. However, I cannot get it back into the inner sleeve without either letting it violently drop (which worries me that someday it's just going to slash right through the other side and onto the floor!) or shoving it in awkwardly, or I invariably touch the grooves trying to get it in. Am I a complete idiot here? There are tons of "how to" videos and not a one shows how to elegantly and safely put your record back in the inner sleeve while holding in this awkward one-handed way!
