Hey friends, we've got a lot going on around here and it's all very exciting. First and foremost, please welcome Alice Frankie Benoit Riley into the world. She was born July 23rd a healthy and happy baby. We'll gladly accept any trade offers for rad onesies of bands/labels we dig. Get in touch! Now for vinyl news... THE CAPITALIST KIDS - LESSONS ON LOVE, SHARING, AND HYGIENE 12" LP: out now and ready to ship. We've got a few copies on white left, limited to 119, but act fast if you want to make sure you get one. They play great pop-punk in the vein of The Mr. T Experience and early Green Day with lyrics that get us very excited and are about more than just girls (don't worry traditionalists, they're there too.) IN BETWEEN - SO STEADY 7" EP: We're just waiting on the inserts from the band to come in and these will be ready to ship. They're on tour right now so hopefully when they get back next week we'll be all set. If you see them in a town near you, be sure to pick up a tour version of the 7" directly from them. Check out the dates below. If you get excited by bands like Lifetime, Sensefield, and Silent Majority, then these new favorite sons of Baltimore will be right up your alley. We've got 100 copies on blue vinyl available for pre-order now. RUN DOWN - AMERICAN DESPAIR b/w THE COMING 7" SINGLE: After 7 long years of delays (our fault, not the band's) this single from ex-members of Formaldehyde Junkies and The Breaks is finally seeing the light of day. The band recently changed their name to Voight-Kampff and self-released their debut album on cassette. Consider this the prelude to that. Two songs of dark, depressive garage rock/punk along the lines of bands like Crime, The Dead Boys, The Gun Club, and the Birthday Party. The first pressing is 300 all on white vinyl. Grab one while you can. DISTRO! We just got in a few blue vinyl copies of the new Toys That Kill - Fambly 42 12" LP from the UK's Drunken Sailor Records. Not very many, so grab one while you can. Also in from Drunken Sailor are the Magnificent LP, Bangers/What-A-Nights split 7", and Shit Creek 7" (featuring members of J Church and The Capitalist Kids!) We also received a box of new releases from Dead Broke Records including the Low Culture 7", the new Awful Man 7", and their repress of the debut LP from The Steve Adamyk Band (SO GOOD!). 5. www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog Pre-orders for The Capitalist Kids - Lessons on Love, Sharing, and Hygiene 12" LP are now up in the webstore. The first pressing will be 100 on white vinyl and 400 on black. You can pre-order just the record or the record with an exclusive Toxic Pop t-shirt at a couple bucks savings. Here's some info on the record... TOX16: The Capitalist Kids - Lessons on Love, Sharing, and Hygiene 12" LP It's pretty rare that we fall in love with a band on first listen, but that was exactly the case when Austin, TX's The Capitalist Kids sent us their new recording. It's really hard not to get sucked in by the familiar pop-punk hooks first made popular by Lookout! Records bands like Green Day and The Mr. T Experience, but the new recording really had us yelling "Hell yes!" when the third song, "Parachute of Gold", kicked in with it's socially critical lyrics. It's easy to find a pop-punk band that can write a catchy song about a new or lost love, but when they can seamlessly flow between a song like that and a song about the growing income gap in this country, it's a really, really special thing. Other often neglected topics in the genre that can be found on this album include the cold-hearted Ayn Rand, Socialist as badge of honor, and the disappointment and anger at famous punk rockers punching women. Don't worry traditionalists, songs about girls are abundant as well. This is your new favorite record. Comes with a digital download code. You can preview a couple tracks from the record at our Bandcamp page... http://firestartertoxicpop.bandcamp.com www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog

  7. www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog Pre-orders for the Sick Sick Birds - Gates of Home LP are now up in the webstore. 100 on yellow vinyl are available to the first lucky purchasers. The LPs should be ready to ship by the end of March. Go get 'em! TOX13: Sick Sick Birds - Gates of Home 12" [March 2012] Baltimore's Sick Sick Birds present us with their second long-player which finds them exploring their history as a band with eleven songs that span their existence and their influences (The Clash, The Pixies, The Smiths, Jawbox...). These songs have more of a sense of urgency compared to some of their more whimsical offerings. The melancholy is still there but it's been imbued with a sense of "you lie in the bed you make". With Bobby Borte on a musical hiatus, Mike Hall has taken up primary song-writing duties and his songs speak of snippets of stories whose characters, for better or worse, have followed their own path and deal with whatever may come as best they can. Comes with a digital download code. track listing: 1. Pick and Choose 2. Conversation 3. Marrietta 4. Spinning Jenny 5. One Town Over 6. Caution Wires 7. (Cross the) Shipping Lanes 8. Olive 9. I'm happy to send pics for serious inquiries. The prices listed are what I'm looking for, but they are negotiable, and anyone buying a bunch of records will get a better deal. Email me at mikeriley131 AT gmail DOT com with offers or questions. Here's the list - http://www.firestarterrecords.com/seveninchlist.txt

  12. Pre-orders are now up for the Tenement - Taking Everything 7" EP and the Scum Again - s/t 7" EP. Limited colored vinyl for those who get 'em early. www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog TOX10: Tenement - Taking Everything 7" Appleton, WI's Tenement play some of the best poppy/melodic grunge/punk we've ever heard. We were first introduced to them through their EP on 608 Kisses Records, which was surely a solid effort, but it was their songs on the split 7"s with Used Kids and Friendly Fire that really got us hooked, along with their contribution to the Dead Broke Rekerds vol. 3 cassette compilation. We found ourselves instantly neglecting everything else on these releases to keep going back and playing the Tenement tracks over and over and over. After catching a live show in DC on their tour with Used Kids we fell in love and now we couldn't be more excited to be releasing this 7" single of four brand new songs which were recorded at the same time as their Napalm Dream LP on Mandible Records/Hang Up Records. You can hear elements of influences from bands like Sugar, the Replacements, Mudhoney, Husker Du, and Tad, but the sound is all their own. Both the guitars and the vocals have that perfect balance of crunch and melody and the leads have just enough feedback to give them some grit. We can't get enough. Easily the best band we caught wind of in 2009. TOX14: Scum Again - s/t 7" Scum Again are a new-ish band out of Baltimore, MD featuring 5 guys who have been around the local punk scene for many years. You may have checked out some of their previous bands like Warpriest, The Squints, Diablero, Mind As Prison, and Plaguewielder...well this band only has the DIY ethic in common with their previous bands. These boys are letting their love for catchy poppy punk to shine through with Scum Again. You'll hear influences from bands like Crimpshrine, Fifteen, and the Broadways. Punk rock with hooks that's a bit rough around the edges. www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog
  13. www.firestarterrecords.com/catalog Hey folks. Hot enough for ya? Seriously though. This is gross. Get some swimming in while you can. And listen to some rad tunes. That's what gets us through the day. We've got a little bit of news for ya and a few distro updates. Thanks for listening... Thanks a ton to everyone that scored some great deals from our clearance sale. In case you missed it, we decided to drastically scale back the size of the distro. It was just getting a bit too big to handle. Now you may actually see us out at shows with some boxes as 5 of them are much easier to cart around then 12 of them. We're gonna do our best to stick to quality over quantity (though we stand behind everything we've sold). All of the clearance 7"s are gone but there are still some clearance LPs ($3 and $5). Check out the list below. We still have copies of Pulling Teeth's Witches' Sabbath vol. 6 7". Only available with the Funerary CD and limited to 300, this is the final installment of the series. Grab 'em while you can cuz whatever is left come mid-August is getting sold by the band at This Is Hardcore in Philly. In label news, we'll be getting started on production of the Tenement and Scum Again 7"s very soon. Keep an eye out for pre-order information in a month or so. In case you haven't heard, Scum Again are a fairly new band from Baltimore playing gritty pop punk along the lines of Crimpshrine, Fifteen, and newer bands like Unfun. Great stuff. We made a Bandcamp page (http://firestartertoxicpop.bandcamp.com)! Head over there to check out a song from their 7" (and a lot of our other releases, with more to come). You can also hear the title track from that upcoming Tenement 7". Easily one of our favorite bands these days. Speaking of Tenement...we just got copies of their brand new LP, Napalm Dream, in the webstore. This one is an easy contender for Album of the Year. It's gonna be tough to beat, that's for sure. If you haven't heard Tenement yet, they take the best elements from bands like Sugar, Dinosaur Jr, the Replacements, and Nirvana and combine them into some seriously great grungy/punk pop music. Don't miss out on that LP. Also new in the webstore is the demo from NJ's Phibes, featuring members of Wormeaters and Bloodtype. Great early 80s SoCal style hc/punk. Good stuff. Also out of NJ are the best band in hc/punk right now, the Night Birds, and their CD compiling all of their releases to date. If you haven't heard Night Birds yet and you dig hc/punk, do yourself a favor and pick that up. They cross Adolescents, Agent Orange, and Dead Kennedys to perfection. Best band right now.
