  1. Haha, you called me a "faker". I'm supposed to take you seriously? You run a "punk" label and think distros are irrelevant. I'm supposed to take you seriously? I love people trying to give Brent a word of advice. "Listen, pal, I've been into this for a while now and I know what works, y'see...etc"
  2. Listen, fella. No one's "making up rules" for others to follow. We are just telling you what has worked in the past and what has not worked. Why is this so hard for you to understand? I've no need to tell you anything about myself, nor does my personal life have any bearing on what I am telling you, so no luck, friend. Did you know that there's a band called Red Scare already and they were a ton better than whatever bullshit you're using that name for? Thread needs less red scare and more servo.
  3. Yeah, I'll say you're making some crazy generalizations! You're also making constant reference to Dischord's model, which is an extreme outlier. Not every label can rely on massive sales from the Fugazis or Minor Threats of the world. If it were only that easy. And yeah, we should all aspire to be Jeff Nelson, IE, REALLY LUCKY! Heh heh. But more to the point, and in regards to your final words about being optimistic and hard working; I think that's what Virgil is aiming for with these latest ideas. Who knows if they would/should work, but he's trying and he's offering something in return. There was no luck involved in what Jeff Nelson did with Dischord. He put out killer records by killer bands. No luck, all smarts. Only an "outlier" because other people are too dumb/lazy to do all the shit he and Ian did to make Dischord what is it today. Are you retarded? Really, are you? I mean, I guess we don't run with the same crowd, you're into "punk" and I am into punk, but seriously, even the fakers should know distros are a HUGE part of what punk is and has been.
  4. This being your first post makes me think that you don't see all the threads where people say that they don't have money for records. I am trying not to blame the economy, but I can tell you that selling records in 2009 has not been the same as selling records in 2008. I would agree with you that I am not the greatest business mind or person, but most independent labels are started by people who believe in music not business masterminds. With any investment, it isn't a guarantee that they will get a million records. The way I look at it, if those 10 people get 100 records, they would make their money back, but if they get 500 records, they are gonna be stoked. It is my goal to stoke those people out. Brent seems to be doing fine in putting out awesome records in 2009. You're looking into making regular people that just want a record a distro for your label. How many of these people do you think are really going to uphold their end of the bargain (especially considering the fact that you yourself can't seem to uphold your end)? What's next, "'vinyl' parties" where some unwitting jackass sells your label to other unwitting jackasses? Honestly, this Mary Kay garbage is good for shitty products, like candles and make-up. Your move toward this shows how UNinterested you are in the music and how very interested you are in covering your own ass and paying off your debts.
  5. Your blaming the economy line is total bullshit. It ain't the economy that is wrecking your business, it's the fact that you don't know how to run your business that is wrecking it. I don't think this business venture is going to be a very good one. You can keep blaming the economy and, in a few months you'll be out of business and 10 people are going to be very, very pissed off.
