  1. Night Birds 3rd 7" is all done and coming soon... The "Midnight Movies" ep is four new songs of fast, reverbed out, surfy punk. Maybe a bit ballsier than our first 2 records? You'll have to decide that for yourself. We are really happy with the way everything about this record came out. No Way Records out of Richmond will be releasing this in late October, in time for Halloween and for us to do a few shows on our way down to Florida for the 9th Gainesville Fest. On this record we pay homage to the filthy, gritty, low budget films specifically of the horror, bizarre, and beyond genres. The punk rock of films, if you will. The B side was inspired by the work of, and is dedicated to Frank Henenlotter, New York screenwriter and director behind such films as Basket Case (1-3), Brain Damage, Frankenhooker, Bad Biology, and more. Frank was even cool enough to let us go up on his roof with one of his decaying 1980s movie prop monsters (Belial of Basket Case fame for those familiar) and take a picture for the back cover. And the front cover was everything we knew it would be when we asked Mike Diana to take on the cover art duties, and we couldn't be more fucking happy with the way it turned out! If you're unfamiliar with Mike Diana he is an underground cartoonist who became the first artist ever to receive a criminal conviction for obscenity in the United States. Check out his website, www.mikedianacomix.com... here is a brief summary of his story from his website... "In 1994, underground cartoonist Mike Diana was thrown in jail for 4 days without bail on obscenity charges, for publishing, advertising, and selling his zine BOILED ANGEL. Mike was on probation for 3 years, terms included fines of $3000, no contact with minors, 1280 hours of community service, maintain full time employment, and at his expense, see a psychiatrist and take journalism courses at his own expense; AND no drawing for his own personal use... his home was subject to unannounced searches by local police to make sure he was complying." Here is Bad Biology off the new record. Do yourself a favor and check out the movie, Bad Biology as well. Lots of other stuff going on and in the works, but this is a good place to start. Thanks for reading. BAD BIOLOGY HERE (*note, this is our new facebook that we will actually update. become facebook aquaintences with us) : http://www.facebook.com/pages/Night-Birds/109288459133089 www.nowayrecords.com
  2. Fuck yeah!!! care to share who else is playing? are the dopamines making it down too? Never mind, i see you are playing with the Dopamines... this is gonna be the best show ever! i know nothing about this show, curious as to who else is playing it.
  3. we're about 5 songs into it now, will be recorded in Dec. and released in Mid march in time for a US and hopefuly European tour. we'll be busy next year. thanks.
  4. ha, ideally, if people already like us I'd rather them wait it out for the whole package and the real thing. we put as much effort forth on the art and lyrics and stuff as we do the music, right down to the kind of paper that will be used for the sleeve and the record labels, so i try not to pass out songs too much before the real release. sending it out for review like this is an exception, though its not ideal, i just think its better then reviews months after a new release.
  5. thanks man, get stoked for how many penis are on the cover of our new 7".
  6. so it used to be that just before, or just as a record was coming out you would see reviews of said record in zines... what that takes basically is having the record come into the label like 2 months before the record is actually for sale so promotion copies could go out, and then by the time the record is for sale, the press on the record is right there with it, maybe even a little early. nowadays, bands have record release shows and tours booked the week that the label gets the records rush shipped in and immediately for sale... therefore, the record is "out" and copies don't go out for review for another week, and then don't actually get reviewed and printed anywhere till two weeks after that at least... When you finally read the review, you're reading about records that have sometimes been out for months. This is not always the case, of coarse, and its no ones fault really... just kind of the way it is. Anyways, NIGHT BIRDS recorded a new 7" called "MIDNIGHT MOVIES" for No Way Records out of Richmond. It is 4 new songs due out in the middle of October. Of coarse, the week it comes out we are going on a small tour down the fest in FL and will be booking some record release shows. If you are unfamiliar with us, www.myspace.com/NGHTBRDS has our info. We are a punk band from New Jersey / Brooklyn. If you do reviews anywhere, and have any interest in reviewing our record, please email me at [email protected] and in the next week or 2 I will send you the 4 songs, a JPEG of the cover art, and insert info. Obviously not as good as getting the whole real package, but I think it still beats dated reviews coming out when the band is already 3 releases down the road. A down side to this, however, is when the record gets leaked, which can't be stopped, but we of coarse would rather you did not because that would kind of defeat the whole purpose. Email me if interested, thanks. BRIAN PS. a new MP3 of the record and cover art are coming soon...
  7. for those unknown, we hail from nj/brooklyn, we like early 80s punk and hardcore and weird al... that about sums it up... We played Baltimore last night w/ the pist, wasted time, and deep sleep and it fucking ruled. Such a great bill, and I forgot how much i love the pist till they kicked off their set.... Thanks to tony and if you're in Baltimore make sure to check out Celebrated Summer records... we are going to the studio in 2 weeks to record a new single titled "Midnight Movies" for our buds Brandon and Lauren who do NO WAY RECORDS... 4 new songs that we are very pumped on... Our next move was going to be an LP, but we have a cool chunk of shows in Oct. and Nov. including No Way Fest in Richmond (w/ Chronic Sick, last Government Warning show, and a whole bunch more!) and some other stuff we'll hold off on announcing for a bit, so we wanted to have a new record out... That's the plan anyways, this stuff never really works out, but we will see. My wedding is next month so we are taking a small break for a few weeks so I can focus on that, but we'll use the time wisely to master the new ep and get artwork together and shit like that... We do still have a few shows, however, check it out... 7/25 IN BROOKLYN, NY @ DEATH BY AUDIO W/ RED DONS (EX OBSERVERS) AND RATIONS 7/31 IN ASBURY PARK @ THE STONE PONY W/ UNDERDOG + COLD WORLD 8/13 IN NEW BRUNSWICK @ A HOUSE W/ SUNGOD (EX 9 SHOCKS) + BLACK WINE If you want to buy a shirt or some shades, check this out: http://bored.knockknockrecords.com/index.php?topic=106723.0 If you want a copy of our "s/t" ep, 2nd pressing copies are available at www.gravemistakerecords.com or www.dirtnaprecs.com We have an LP in the works and some awesome tour plans for the new year, but for now keep an eye out for "Midnight Movies" on No Way sometime around mid Oct... Thanks for reading. -BRIAN www.myspace.com/NGHTBRDS
