  1. Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground 1981-1991 by Michael Azerrad

    ^this selection is backed 100%

something cool about this was that it was either lying around / used as a prop in a suicide girl's photo set. i don't remember which girl, but i remember seeing that set at the time i was reading it, so i thought "holy shit, i'm reading that book"

but anyway,l i know you asked for something that's not science fiction, but if you ever decide to, a good place to start:

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

and Selected Stories of Phillip K Dick (among the short stories are the ones used as a basis for the movies Paycheck, Minority Report and Total Recall)

    and other stuff:

    Despite Everything by Aaron Cometbus

Love Is a Mix Tape: Life and Loss, One Song at a Time by Rob Sheffield

Coin Locker Babies by Ryu Murakami

    Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

  2. If you're a fan of the chili dog, you owe it to yourself to get to Pinks its also right near Dodger Stadium.

don't go to pink's if you're starving, the line can be massive depending on the time you go. your best bet if you want to try would be to go just before lunchtime if you're going on a weekend, otherwise you can wait for 45 min - 1hr +. and make sure to get at least 2 things or you might still be hungry.

and if you go to pink's you could go to pinkberry around the corner for some frozen yogurt

canter's deli is open 24 hours and they have pretty good pastrami

palm's thai is open late and a few blocks away from amoeba. they have a big elvis statue.

there's also a roscoe's close to amoeba but i've never been to that one

close to anaheim is portillo's which is pretty good too

san diego, cotixan's for mexican food and world curry in pacific beach

  3. See I dont know if its me just being old , but is this what kids like these days? I couldnt imagine seeing a band like that 12 years ago

i was at bamboozle left with my 16 year old cousin and she hated them too, they were quite awful
