Japanese Iced Coffee is my favorite way to do cold
-
Ah word. Well if you are in New Orleans come to where I roast, French Truck Coffee, and have some of our nitro cold brew! They are, as well as Octane, FinerGrind, RedBicycle, HigherGround and a few others......none of which offer Nitro cold-brew on draught though
Oddly enough I had a conversation with someone last night who is interested in helping roast with revelator
-
Id recommend Revelator in Birmingham. They should be roasting on site if I'm not mistaken.First and foremost....my city is finally getting a coffee shop using and selling Stumptown beans and I couldn't possibly be more excited about it....they're also trying to get the nitro cold brew on tap which will be really rad come summer. (Also might be working there, we shall see.)

Yeah I'm plannin on going once I get out of work. It's been a few years since my last record raid, when they used to be in the Tulane quad, so I'm excited.
-
Very sad to see Juan Le Ger close. I only went once but they had a great selection.
i havent been to Captains Vinyl in midcity but ive heard good things.
Disko Obscura, around the corner (literally) from Jim Russells is also worth checking out if youre into funk/dance etc. The owner has some of the best taste in the genre.
I havent been to Bryan Funks new spot but I used to get some gems (OG Thou, Cursed, etc) at Iron Rail when he ran the selection. Now its a pizza place :/

I've been out of the loop the last four or five years with bands popular around here and I can't believe how much stuff I have, had and was too lazy to pick up is going for these days.

Maui is real nice but I havent been there, Honolulu or the big island in probably 14 years.
Kaua'i is where its at. A few years ago I visited my friend from college who grew up there and it was one of the best few days of my life.

also, i know the guy photographer that issued the statement with her and i think i know who the girl is. these guys are just old people that are so used to sitting in their photo safe zone for 3 songs. fuck em.
mars volta did the same thing at voodoo fest 3 years ago. omar was grabbing cameras and throwing them into the crowd, knocking over lights, getting very physical with the photographers.

i was there, it was way over hyped. odd futures performance was fucking awful though
http://www.drivenbyboredom.com/blog/2011/10/31/odd-future-vs-photographers/
There is a lot of buzz on the internet right now about how Left Brain from Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All attacked a female photographer during their show at Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans on Sunday. I was there in the photo pit and I happened to be standing right next to the woman who supposedly got slapped in the face. Her story is bullshit.Odd Future has a reputation for fucking up photographers. At SXSW they ran across the photo pit stepping on the heads and cameras of many a photo blogger. I have never seen them but I was well aware of their reputation. When I got to the photo pit at Voodoo I was pretty excited about the madness that would be happening. After Tyler the Creator told all the photographers that he fucking hated them for taking up space that should belong to fans I got excited. I was ready to see what kinda violence Odd Future was willing to dish out. I wanted to know if their shows were as wild as I had heard.
Two minutes later Hodgy Beats took a bottle of water and swung the bottle at me covering me and my camera with water. Photographers on either side of me got a litte bit wet and a lot of people backed the fuck up. Personally I just wiped the water of my camera and my face and started shooting again. When I wasn’t taking a shot I was just smiling like a crazy person at them ready for whatever the fuck was next.
What happened next was what made news. Left Brain came out to the front of the stage and swatted at photographers cameras. He slapped the guy to the left of me. It was pretty hard and kinda fucked up but I didn’t expect anything less. Rock and roll should be dangerous and Odd Future is doing that right. Moments later Left Brain slapped another camera, this time it was a camera belonging to a woman. She almost dropped it but caught the strap and was perfectly fine just clearly shaken by the experience. He then came towards me but I think he probably saw that I was looking at him like a crazy person and decided to kick over the video tripod that Voodoo had set up. There was not a camera on it.
The the reason Left Brain targeted the photographers he did was because they were in slapping distance and nothing else. This woman is claiming that he slapped her across the face and targeted her because she is a woman. That is complete bullshit. She got targeted because she decided to shoot a crazy fucking band and was not ready to deal with that. Any serious pro photographer has all their gear insured and while getting your shit broken is not idea, when you are shooting dangerous subjects it is a risk you have to take.

This is funny to watch. The media has created a gigantic over reaction. Can't wait to see the reaction of people forced to leave their cities and jobs and go through serious bullshit when these cities get a half foot of water...if that

Making music makes you good with computers (apparently). Playing music makes you a musician. I judge most music by the live show. Where's the show in watching some hack stand behind a screen? Wait, it's the super exciting light show. Right?
Lots of producers play live ie Justice and right now, SBTRKT and AraabMUZIK (http://vimeo.com/25803609).
It's retarded to discredit anyone because they make music in logic. Making quality songs on logic is very difficult to begin with and a lot of electronic artists are creating their own sounds and doing very innovative things. I have 2 friends that are getting tons of hype and they're the most talented musicians I've met in a while. One of them in particular can and will produce music that blows away anything that is ever posted on this board. Some of it will be pop music but he is incredibly talented.
SBTRKT is also taking a lot of the dubstep influence and turning it into something new and exciting
Electro music right now is great for the most part. Punk/Hardcore or whatever I listened to 3-8 years ago has become so mundane and boring. Not to mention the scene is absolutely blowing up. Check out the Mad Decent block party to see how big it's getting.

I havent shot anything inside a 200-1000 cap venue in probably 6 years. Totally not worth the effort and I usually end up with the same 5 boring photos, not to mention the lighting is usually god awful.
I've only really done festivals since high school and dealing with 50 other photographers who are all shooting the exact same thing is just not appealing to me anymore. Granted, I've walked away with some nice photos over the years. But most bands don't have unique stage performances so every photo is a dude playing guitar/bass with a microphone in their face :/
It's basically like collecting baseball cards. "Oh I shot Janes Addicition, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers"...cool but the photos suck cause I only had 5 minutes to do so. At least when I shot Drake I had the hook up.
Also, I've found the older concert photographers (Age 30+) to be really bitter assholes haha.

Ive got a Canon 50D with a 70-200mm/2.8IS, 50mm/1.8 and I just got a 10-22mm/3.5 yesterday. I used nikon for a while but made the switch to canon when I got a 70-200. I'm really glad I made the switch.
I took a pretty big hiatus from photos, other than during my travels. I was pretty uninspired to do anything, not to mention really lazy. I also had some resentment towards everyone that has a digital SLR these days but fuck it. Everyone can have those cameras, it'll just make those who are really good with photography stand out all that much more. Although I am pretty much done with concert photography unless I have some sort of exclusive access. I just don't see the point in it anymore.
I'm gonna start doing a lot of portrait stuff in the next few weeks/months. I've got a pretty interesting group of people to document down here so I'm pretty excited about that.
I shot this with the 50mm the other day when I had some nice natural lighting in my apartment. The lens is totally worth the 100 bucks

I made one for my photography. Basically posting every decent photo I've ever taken

I hit up Captains today. Definitely lots of new wave and classic rock but I picked up a couple cool rare funk re-releases from Tuff City records, one of being The Fabulous Fantoms from here. There was a K-Doe record on the wall callin my name but I couldn't get down with the price :/
