My only other bit of advice is to be careful with selling items that you personally paid a lot for.  For a number of reasons, really, but primarily because the value you placed on that purchase is probably going to differ vastly from what everyone else is willing to pay.  Especially if time has passed, and various factors have come into play.  [such as a repress, in the case of your Vheissu.]  I've purchased a handful of records "in my day" that have broken triple digits... but for me, personally, they hold such sentimental value that the cost was justified for my wallet.  And with that sentimental value comes the complete lack of desire to sell them.  But when and if the time came, and assuming I was really desperate for the funds, there's no way I'd expect to make a profit back on all of them.  Hell, I'd be lucky if I could break even on a few of them.  If you're seeking maximum profit, and trying to make back the surplus amount of money you spent on the record to begin with, you should probably just list in on eBay.  Either in an auction with a reserve, or as a bloated BIN if you've got the patience.  Someone will bite.  I understand that it's frustrating to lose money on a record that you have to sell... but it does happen.  But trying to rectify that price difference in communities like VC isn't the solution to seek.  Just food for thought.

Also, you're probably receiving flack from us 1K+ members because we've been around the block a few times, and see these types of threads constantly.  Brand new members looking to make big bucks, with zero reputation.  I hate to sound pretentious, but you almost have to earn the right to sell the big fish around here.  Few people are going to Paypal you hundreds of dollars with no background information on you.  Members who make a few sales and establish a persona on the boards - outside of just the sale threads - are much more likely to receive appealing offers than new-jacks who strut in with a bookmark folder full of Popsike links.

Alright man. I honestly really appreciate the advice. I don't see any harm in listing a few of these for the prices I've got up now but I definitely see your point on the sentimental part. I still prefer to see somebody post asking prices instead of saying "PM me offers". If these don't sell, I'll know that I'm asking too much and I'll move them over to ebay. I figure it's better for me to try and offer them up in a community of people who aren't just record flippers first and if I can't get my asking price, then I'll move on and try and make some money out of them.

    Super long, really helpful post.

Dude, thank you. It's really intimidating when I'm trying to learn to sell records and I'm recommended popsike for price ranges by a bunch of people and after watching for months and finally posting prices, the first replies I receive are from dudes with thousands of posts basically telling me I'm an idiot. I'm honestly not trying to rip anyone off here, I'm a collector just like the rest of us. I've been doing this for two years now, and I've sold a few cheaper records but never anything worth much. I'm still learning. I've been offering up some pretty fair deals to guys wanting to buy more than one, and I'm also trying not to lose my money on a few of these. Like Vheissu for example. I bought it a year and a half ago for $100. I could accept that for it, even though it's pulling in $150 pretty regularly. I don't think it's unfair for me to list it for that. I'll go through and fix up the original post to make things a little more fair. Really appreciate the help man, I guess there are good dudes here after all.

  3. You seem awfully defensive for someone with reasonable prices.

Once again, thank you for the advice/showing me that my prices are not reasonable. You know, I wouldn't mind a little help with listing. I'm seriously not seeing that these prices aren't reasonable. It's ridiculous that I try to plug into a community of collectors that seems so tight and friendly to other collectors and after researching and putting my stuff up for sale, all I do is get told how my prices are too high. Save for wheresoulmeetsbody (he actually gave me some helpful advice and I immediately lowered my price), nobody has given me any help, only acted pretentious and put me down. Whatever.

Shit, is that Thrice/Thursday split really going for anything over 2 dollars?  Id like to pick up Limbeck again as I sold it when I lost my job a few years ago, but mine was white and I let it go for 25 and never seen another one that color before.

    From the Forum Rules thread:

    Sale spoiling

Please do not march into a thread and state that you can get an item for $X on eBay or some other online store. Or that you're selling the same item for less. If you think their price may be too high, don't be rude about it. If others feel the same way, then it won't sell. This is a hobby where each person gives an item a different monetary worth. While it's fine to look out for others, people should also do research into the item they are buying. also, if a buyer offers a price that you consider to be too low a price for an item, please politely decline it, or give them a ball park figure you're thinking around.

All of you guys making comments about how I've priced all these are not really doing anything to help it. I'm no expert on selling. I go off popsike and keep the prices slightly lower/on par with the ones on there. Just because you can't get your hands on a copy of a Thrice or a Brand New record doesn't mean that you have to rip on me for selling them for the current market value. Thank you for all the free bumps guys.

    Money issues suck

Would be sweet to have that Julia single. I love that song. Friggin' Canada shipping, though.

    It's free with any purchase!

The German Transatlanticism isn't "rarer". I had some trouble getting $35 for mine. $50 is standard price for the more sought after American Barsuk press.

Youre right man. Thanks for the help. I was hard pressed to find info on this, was misinformed when I first bought I t. I'll adjust the price accordingly.
