Alright, help me out, guys. Audio Technica ATLP120 or Pro-Ject Debut III? I'm a little afraid of the "USB" part of the ATLP120 and what people say about ruining records, and I like what people say of the Debut, but my mind was so set on the Audio Technica, until I saw a sale on the Debut. what should I go for?
Don't buy a USB turntable. For the price the Debut III is solid. You'll find people tell you that if you're going to drop that kind of money on a table you're better off looking used where you will get more bang for your buck. But if you're just looking to buy something new or don't want to go through the effort searching through Craigslist or Audiogon, then pick up the Pro-Ject.

Thanks for the heads up on this!
Finally pulled the trigger on the RP1 with Performance Pack I've eying for months.
$130 off pushed me over the edge.

Losing out on a last minute bid last year is part of the reason I decided to do this in the first place. Thanks for the kind words.
I'm pretty glad you lost out on that auction!
I've been refreshing this thread since it's creation, and am thoroughly excited for this to show up at my door.
Thanks dude.

Actually I found one that worked for 15% off: HTLOYALTYPB1001
Picked this up off the website since it's pretty unavailable in the stores near me.
Thanks for the promo code!

Just checked with both of my local record stores with new vinyl and neither of them will be getting it. This may be a tough find for Cleveland folk.
Which places have you checked already?
I might just have to go with Amazon if it's not going to be available anywhere locally.

pulled up a few CL apt listings in oakland and it seems much more affordable, but i have no idea about the neighborhoods.

not expecting anyone to actually pull up those and look at the addresses, but those seem like decent areas..
Pad Mapper is clutch for this. It pulls all it's info from Craigslist/Apartments.com/etc and has a ton of filtering options. You can even overlay crime data (in the super secret advanced options).

Basically there is no reasonable area in SF to live that isn't insanely expensive. You'd have to live in Oakland or one of the other surrounding areas. I live in a nice area of Oakland in a 2br for $1300 per month, and we're about a 15 minute walk to BART and then a 15 minute BART ride to downtown SF.
Basically this.
You're not going to find a reasonable spot in SF unless you bring like 5 roommates with you. You're better off getting in place in Oakland or Berkley and just commute into the city for work or fun. Most of Oakland and all of Berkley is within walking distance of a BART which will get you into the city in under 20 (usually).
Here are some areas to look into:
Lake Merritt, Oakland
Rockridge, Oakland
Vicinity of Ashby BART station, Berkeley/Oakland border.
Vicinity of the intersection of Telegraph and Temescal, Oakland
Piedmont, Oakland (actually kinda a "village" within Oakland called Piedmont, but has oakland on all sides)
The Hills in Oakland
Downtown Berkeley (very college-y)
All in all it's an amazing area. SF is beautiful, there is a ton of stuff going on all the time, and you're minutes from 3 very distinct environments (SF, Berkley, Oakland).
