  1. Got a 4th copy of the vinyl yesterday (Indie version, which I wanted primarily for the blue cover) and guess what? Warped again! That's 4 out of 4 for me on this (3 standards, 1 deluxe). Not acceptable at all.

Anyone know where/if I can contact Matador in the UK? I'm wondering if they would send me out new LP's as I've already returned 3 copies to Amazon and this current blue copy I got from Spain which will not be cheap to send back for a replacement.

  2. Sounds like you have the same 'scraping' sound on side D that I had on 2 copies of the normal edition. It's a continuous noise throughout the entire side. My deluxe doesn't have this.

The guy you spoke to is talking crap. Receiving a duff press is not what the appeal of vinyl is. Of course, there will be oaccasional crackle but defects like this are certainly not normal, as we who play records know.

I can't remember the llast time I had such hassle with a release. I've had plenty of warped/badly pressed LP's before but usually get better copies 2nd time round. This time it was starting to take the piss. Even my deluxe copy is only just about what I'd call ''Passable'' for my standards. Still warped but I can't detect any pitch issues and it plays well.

  3. Arrggghhh!! My deluxe arrived today and it's not good. Yet again both LP's are warped (although thankfully, not as severe as the first 2 copies I had), both have surface marks on the vinyl and small pimples in places. They do play without any major issues though (just occasional mild crackle here and there) so I shall stick with it. It's just so disappionting, considering the high price. I expected higher quality from Pallas. I'm now 6/6 warped LP's, it's terrible.

I see the deadwax has ''Pallas U.S.A.'' Stamped in. Does that mean it was pressed in the US and not actually at the 'real' plant in Germany?

Also, anyone else noticed the distortion in a few places (mainly in 'I Sat by the Ocean' and 'Fairweather Friends')? It seems to be on the master itself, but just would like to eliminate a problem with my copy.

  4. My Indy copy definitely has noticeable surface noise when turned up super loud.

I did the same thing and looked to see if there was dust on my stylus. There wasn't.

Not super noticeable, but definitely minorly...noticable.

Yeah, seeing as this is pressed at 45rpm I do expect some minor surface noise at higher volume but not loud scraping sounds throughout an entire side. I honestly thought my stylus was hitting a stone every cycle! I can't even see anything on the surface of the vinyl, which is strange.

Will see how the deluxe compares...

  5. I am SO frustrated right now. Ordered the standard from amazon.co.uk and it arrvied with both LP's warped. LP1 playable but LP2 I did not risk as it was very wavey (up/down/up/down, etc). Ordered a replacement which has arrived today in WORSE condition!! Again, both LP's badly warped and they are both full of those little 'pimple-like' indents on the surface and other random marks from a poor press/handling. Upon playback, they're both noisy. Side 4 has a scraping sound in the background for the entire side. I even cleaned my stylus as I thought it might have had some dirt on there but got the same result.

Am I just going mad? Are these meant to be like this?

One of the worst purchases I've had for some time.

  6. That sucks.

There are two photos of gold translucent on page 3 of this thread.

    It looks pretty nice.

Thanks. I saw those but wasn't sure if it was the Gold Opague or Translucent. Think I shall go with that, but only if they discount it slightly for their error. It's already cost me an arm and a leg for shipping costs to the UK.

Does anyone know when the splatter supposedly sold out? I ordered on May 28th according to the order page.

  7. Has anyone else been shortchanged on the splatter? I'm really pissed off at the moment as I pre-ordered the day they went up, yet I've just been told there are no copies left, so they basically oversold it. Not only that but they've had my money for a good 2-3 weeks now.

Has anyone got photos of the gold translucent? Thinking of getting that one instead but I have asked for a discount considering how they've fucked up my order.

  8. A mixture of everything for me. Nice large scale artwork, more enjoyable to listen to, having that tangible item, etc.

Also, with cd's being so horribly brickwalled these days the vinyl usually 99% of the time sounds MUCH better with less compression.

I really don't like paying £20 for an album though, compared to under £10 for most CD's. I expect to pay more of course, but not double, unless it has special packaging that makes it worth the price. I do feel that with this vinyl 'comeback' labels (or it could be the pressing plants charging more) are really inflating prices.

I basically buy depending on what is available. I have big collections of both CD and Vinyl.

  9. Yeah, the colours are definitely strange to say the least. I was tempted by the split Deluxe but it just looks nasty compared to the standard Yellow/Green (which fits the theme too). Those IMO should have been swapped around.

Not that I'm complaining. I've gone for the 180g black for now (I have Red & Blue on black too) but will try grab the Y/G standard once released (hopefully some of those find their way to other retail which will have fairer shipping prices to Europe). Thing is, there will supposedly be 7000 on standard weight black, I reckon those are for retail globally and that Relapse will keep all the special/coloured editions to themselves. That's my guess anyway.

  10. Mine has arrived today. Really annoyed though because the gatefold is split really bad.

I've asked for a replacement sleeve as this is too much damage, especially considering the price! The LP's are excellent though. Nicely pressed, quiet, flat and sounds really good. To be honest, I wasn't knocked back like I was with the Blood Mountain 2x45 but maybe my expectations were too high. It definitely sounds much better than the CD, although I can still hear compression (which I guess was introduced in mixing)

Appears to be pressed in Netherlands. Hand written in the deadwax is 'andreas at schnittstelle'. It's very tiny though so the spelling of the location might be slightly wrong.
