The US pressing of this is pretty bad - it sounds like it was mastered from a cassette dub of a radio broadcast of the album - but I've always thought it benefited the recording, giving it more atmosphere a la Kraftwerk's 'Radio-Activity', a record it was clearly influenced by.

Finally found a minty-condition copy for a reasonable price located in the US to save on shipping and not jack the reasonable price up to unreasonable. Huzzah!

The Monkees box is completely unnecessary but I had to have it. As for 'Gish', lovely as expected.

I personally didn't notice any improvement in sound quality but I also didn't notice any decrease either as some have reported. My go to LP will still be the black vinyl reissue that came out a few years ago.

The packaging, though, blew me away and I am more than happy with my purchase.

what about gish? is that a step up

i agree the sd repress on black a few years ago is enough for me. i may buy the reissue down the road as sd is in my top 5 albums ever

I don't have 'Gish' yet as the store I got 'Siamese Dream' at didn't have it in stock for some reason. (They had the CD/DVD set so it's not like they didn't know it was out.)

Gish is 14.99 and SD is 18.99 @ Sunrise Records in Toronto.

I have the repress of SD that came out a couple years ago...is it worth it to buy this new one? I always thought it sounded alright.

Only slight problem: it didn't include the download card inside. I can rip it myself, no big deal, just a timesaver. I contacted the distributor but haven't heard back from them yet... not cool.

listened to both remastered cds in the car today and i'm really impressed. spun SD vinyl and not impressed. hopefully i just gotta do some tuning on the table.

I was appalled by the price. However, as with the original poster, it's my favorite Christmas album ever - and along with 'Christmas Eve On Sesame Street', the only such album I allow played in the house - and the color was too perfect to pass up.

I hated myself a little, but it was time to replace that old beat up copy anyways.

I guess the LPs dont have the Billy liner notes? Would really like to read those.

No liner notes - which is silly because there's two sides of inner sleeve wasted with just the flower design on the 'Siamese Dream' issue where his notes would have easily fit - and no download coupon. (Again, kind of silly, but my understanding is that the vinyl got a different master from the disc and anyone who is buying the vinyl is most likely not purchasing their first copy of the albums. That said, I firmly believe every LP should come with a download code so that's a bit of a miss.)

These do, however, come with a download code for the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club. Not sure if it's a new track or one of the ones that he's already put out as I haven't gotten around to trying them yet, but there's something.

My CD boxes arrived last night and the packaging alone is worth the price. Just gorgeous.

Of the two stores I checked with today, the first only had 'Siamese Dream' on vinyl - why would you stock one but not the other, especially since they had both CD formats for 'Gish' - so I grabbed that but was more than a little miffed. The second shop hadn't gotten their UPS shipment yet so no go.

Sometimes I hate this town. Oh well. The vinyl packages are even more gorgeous than the CD boxes. If you weren't going to get the new rekkids because you had original pressings, I think you're making a mistake. Both have their place in any fan's collection.

Listening to the Deluxe CD version of Gish right now. The remaster on the album is great, but it really shines on the bonus material. Starla has never sounded this good outside a live setting!

Giving it a first listen now and I love what he's done with the new mix of 'Starla'. It wasn't lacking in muscle before but - especially the ending guitar solo - it has all kinds of new ooomph. I never thought I'd say this again with the past decade plus of mis-steps, but well played Mr. Corgan. Well played.

When I placed my pre-order, the CD/DVD boxes showed an estimated delivery of November 29th with 2 day shipping but the vinyl showed December 2nd for some reason, so I only pre-ordered the CD/DVD and am hoping to find the vinyl locally tomorrow.

UPS says my package is out for delivery RIGHT NOW so I should have them tonight. Huzzah!

I was initially annoyed at the new artwork but I must say that from those pictures, they appear to have turned out quite nicely.

Tried to pick these up on the way home but the shop only had the single disc CDs out. Guess I have to wait until street. *sigh*

I asked them about this when I ordered and they said they don't have the rights to it or 'Aftertaste' as of now. I'd love to see them do both, personally.

I'd actually love to see a nice blue/white swirl 12" instead of the 2x10", which I think is the worst format for an album possible. Maybe a bonus 7" for the three 10" only tracks. (Also, I already have the 2x10" but haven't ever tracked down a German[?] LP so perhaps there's a bit of selfishness going on there.)

I also got a blue 'Meantime' for the record, which is fine as it was the color I was hoping for.

Stumbled here looking for info on the ORG 'Meantime' repress. Ended up finding out about the color options and, therefore, spending more money. So thanks, I think.
