kidamnesiac Posted May 11, 2015 Share Posted May 11, 2015 Airplay would be what I would want to try, considering I already have all my music in a central Mac mini running iTunes .You can get older Airport Express stations for ~$30 each. Ideally these would be hooked up to powered ceiling speakers with wall volume controls, but any set of speakers with an auxiliary input will work.. You'd get lossless bitperfect playback up to 16bit 44.1kHz (definitely good enough for ambient levels). Additional advantages to this solution are 1) Airport Express stations can also be used as wifi signal extenders in combination with an Airport Extreme router, 2) any iOS device can Airplay to any one Airport Express, so anyone in the house should be able to personalize their own room's audio even if there is music going on the main system.
