xfedupx
I have an old pc that I haven't used in a couple years. I recently reformatted it and wanted to use it as a media center sort of thing for my tv. I hooked it up and installed Boxee and all the videos are very choppy. I know it's because I don't have a lot of RAM in there... So my dumb question is, if I upgraded my ram, would that solve the problem of the choppy video? It displays on my tv fine and I don't care about it outputting HD quality, but wanted to make sure it wasn't a video card thing and only a ram thing. louisp
I know this doesn't answer your question but did you update your video card driver ?
xfedupx
I'm not sure...when windows did it's update, there was about 70 updates that went through. I can try to update it manually
tooclosetosee
what video card and how much ram? If you have less than a gig of ram, then beefing up the ram would help.
xfedupx
GeForce2 MX400, but it's about 7 years old and an embarrassing 512 mb of ram haha
sonix
www.nvidia.com follow the instructions to update your driver. But I would imagine that both your ram and video card need some updatin'
louisp
you should try to download the video card driver manually first, windows update doesn't do that for you. This will help. And sure, more ram would help for faster navigation and more fluidity in boxee, but Im not sure you would need a new video card just to watch videos, expecially if they aren't in hd. And honestly, I wouldnt recommend putting money on upgrading an old computer, unless someone can give you the parts you need.
