Damn I don't usually buy  records outside US distro but this new album could be AOTY worthy. Snagged the gold in clear splatter.

Damn I found out about this way too late. I had been waiting for the new album ever since they put out Big World. Really want that splatter. Still managed to get an Electric Blue though.

Deathwish also has a Transparent Red variant /300. I'm kinda disappointed they went with Will Putney on this record. Personally I don't think he should ever touch a hardcore band's record.

It says splatter is gone. Not sure if it actually is or someone has all of them in their cart.

I love it too. Different, but really fuckin good.

The one they have in stock now is the remastered version. I think it sounds better, a bit "sharper" and more "beefy" (I leave to someone in possession of adequate parlance to elaborate).

Maybe post-hardcore, but just slightly.

Picked up this and Dead In The Dirt.

Musical genres, categories/labels and other short-hands ('liberal' / 'Baptist' / 'Neo-Darwinist' etc.) are necessary as starting points for discussion with further clarification inevitable- just think about communication without them! But I agree with the sentiments above that when taken to the extreme of rigid pidgeon-holing, it will drive you crazy and you want to just start from scratch... but then the whole "Sounds LIke ______, but with these differences..." rears its ugly head.

 

That being said, besides the screeching vocals of USBM (unsuccessful bowel movement in medical lingo,  the US'BM' is quite interesting re: categories, and glad they don't burn churches and stuff), and loud, distortion/gain/overdrive/fuzztone guitars of nu-gaze, I hear a lot of the loud-soft/intense climax-resolution elements of post rock in Sunbather-- individual tracks and the album as a whole--per MisSigsFan above.

EDIT: Basically, take a band like Envy or Devil Sold His Soul, add blast beats and a bit more shoegaze, change the vocals to that high pitched scream, and you get the basics of Deafheaven.

I just call it Post-Black Metal. Post-Rock and Black Metal merge.
