44 entries for Vaya. Congrats to shenanigans! So in the end, all 3 winners were seasoned members of VC. The random number generator looks favorably upon VC I guess. Thanks to all who entered! And goodnight.
-
49 entries for In/Casino/Out. Random number generator picked 48. Awesome, easy for me to count backwards 1, haha. Congrats to Spaghetti!

definitely should have laid out some ground rules. either post count or how long you've been a member, maybe a combination of the 2.
when you do something like this it's always going to bring out people who have accounts in some instances for years and rarely if ever post, and the only time they do post is to enter a raffle/contest/give away. and it will always bring out people who sign up just to get free shit, who post in the thread to enter the rafle/contest/ give away and are never heard from again. 27 people have signed up just to enter this contest. promoting this on your twitter and blog has no doubt led to some of the people who just signed up to enter. if you're going to promote the raffle/contest/give away off this board you shouldn't run it on this board.
and this is coming from someone who is not even entering.
Should've been board members only.
I understand your position on this, but I actually disagree because I think it can raise awareness of Vinyl Collective for those that didn't know it existed.

52 entries for the Acrobatic Tenement. Winner via random draw is KevinShisko. Congrats! Tallying up for the other records now, please stay tuned.

Hello Vinyl Collective,
I'm giving away 3 ATDI records, one each to a different person for the cost of shipping. All of the records are open but still in shrink wrap. Perfect condition, never been played. Comment with which ONE of these 3 records you want, and I'll pick someone randomly for each.
All of these are reissues.
Acrobatic Tenement - red vinyl
In/Casino/Out - clear vinyl
Vaya - white vinyl
Thanks!

It seems as though I will be relocating soon, which means I need to purge my record collection of stuff I don’t want to move. I was thinking it would be cool to give some away via our blog. Since we’ve used Twitter, Facebook, Vinyl Collective, and r/vinyl to promote the blog, we’re going to use those same resources to get the word out and host the contests. ALL giveaways will be announced via Twitter, so be sure to follow us to find out where to enter each contest.
https://twitter.com/TheVinylWord
I put together a preliminary list of 30 records below. Some of these we will give away as pairs or sets, so definitely more records will be added to this list (but none will be taken away!). Some are sealed, some were opened only to photograph, some have been played once. These details will be given for each contest. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR SHIPPING, so keep that in mind. International entries will be accepted, but shipping will be expensive.

The Vinyl Word (since their short time being around) has had A TON of free giveaways of some really cool stuff. Plus, they're already one of the better vinyl blog reads around. It was kind of sad how terrible some of these vinyl blog sites were but it seems these guys actually have some pretty good taste in music.
Keep doing what you're doing The Vinyl Word, you wont get a complaint from me!!!
Thanks, that's very much appreciated! It's motivating to hear positive feedback. We can deal with the occasional negativity, but it's the silent majority that makes it hard to do what we're trying to do for them. Can't believe only 2 people are vying for a signed LCD Soundsystem record. Live and learn. We conclude the majority favor random lotteries.
-
Maybe a VC only contest in the future?
We already have an Instagram plan for This Is Happening, but hey, we're totally open to ingenious ideas for giving away the copy of Sound of Silver.
-
Fair enough. I wasn't "hating on" you guys btw. I think it's cool that you're giving the record away.
Thanks. Hopefully they will go to good homes. That's certainly what we prefer. If you look at the actual Facebook comments so far, some are very clever and/or funny and we realize it's a shame they will go unrewarded. Life is just one big shitty competitiion really.
-
I do want the record you jabroni but I don't have any friends and especially don't have Facebook friends. I can guarantee I'm a bigger LCD fan than any douche you give it to with 1000 likes on Facebook. Real LCD fans don't give a shit about social media and the Internet. I'm losing my edge.
Well, that is just rude. And probably erroneous, as LCD has over 146K Twitter followers and 634K Facebook followers, but whatever, nothing worth arguing about here. Those people that you think are "douches" are probably the ones that actually read our blog, so we don't mind doing them a favor.
-
This exactly, it's just a stupid popularity contest to get as many people on their page as possible
I don't know why we're even bothering to answer messages from people that are hating on us for no reason, but of course we want people to visit our blog. Why would we bust our ass trying to find good content for other fans of vinyl in our free time for no money to not have anyone read the blog? Why would we work hard to get a celebrity like James Murphy, who has 1000s of fans that would cherish having a signed copy of one of his records, to help us out if we didn't care about giving people a reason to care about our blog? If you don't want the record and you don't care about the blog, why do you bother to comment?
-
Hmm the contest will be won by the person who's comment is "liked" the most.
Oh, I get it. It's a popularity contest.
Facebook in general is a popularity contest. But we believe that if someone wants to put in the effort to convince their friends to help them win a vinyl record, they really want the record.
-
i wish the people that ran this blog would ACTUALLY post here, instead of just posting here to post contests and disappearing til the next one.
also, didnt someone here win the last radiohead one, and then contacted them and they didnt respond and drew another name? what happened with that?
Dude, we're here, let's talk. If I understand correctly, you want us to post our content on Vinyl Collective? Or you want us to stop using Vinyl Collective exclusively for publicity? Raising awareness of a website is super hard. We aren't posting here to ruin people's VC experience. We're just using the limited resources we have available to us.
Regarding Radiohead, the winner was ultimately able to get a hold of us. We fucked up because we were Twitter novices, but he now has his Radiohead records in hand.

Hello! We are a vinyl blog, and we're using reddit and Vinyl Collective to let people know that we're giving away something special (in our opinion). The one and only James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem very generously agreed to autograph copies of his records for us to give away on our site to some lucky LCD fans. We're starting with the self-titled album (This is Happening and Sound of Silver will be given away soon after). The contest is for promotion of our blog, and we're making no money, just hoping to increase visibility and awareness. You must have Facebook to enter, but it is not a random drawing. You will have some control over your chances of winning! For details on how to enter to win, please see our blog at http://thevinylword.info
Thanks for looking, and if you decide to enter, GOOD LUCK! -
Yeah, the incredibly low number of entries is testament to that. It was an experiment. An attempt at asking people to do something more clever than "like" a Facebook post or retweet. The rules were too complicated. This isn't going to stop us from giving away more records though!
-
See http://thevinylword.info for details. Entries accepted until midnight EST tonight.

The Vinyl Word was generously donated some rare DIIV records to give away to one lucky fan of the band. The set includes a signed copy of Oshin on blue vinyl, as well as all three of the band's 7" singles on color vinyl (released under the moniker Dive). See http://thevinylword.info for more info! Thanks!

Alligator, Boxer, High Violet, The Virginia EP, and Trouble Will Find Me. All black vinyl versions, except the EP which is the splatter version. All are sealed. See http://thevinylword.info for details. Thanks!

The Vinyl Word is giving away copies of Homework, Discovery, and Random Access Memories TONIGHT to one lucky winner! See http://thevinylword.info for more details! --Same--
No problem. We just assign numbers to all entries and draw a number. jonrawks and thefavoriteplay, we can assign you each a number if you want. We can notify you via VC if you happen to win.

Giving away MF Doom Operation: Doomsday vinyl by lottery
in Sale/Trade/Wants
Posted
Hi all. Random draw winner of the MF Doom is attackconquer. Thanks to all for entering! We've limited the contests on VC to the records we thought this community would most want (in general), the ATDIs and MF Doom, maybe one more. We put the more "pop" stuff like Beach House and The xx up on reddit, and the more obscure and less popular stuff on Twitter and Facebook. Sorry to those that see the new VC users as a nuisance. VC is such a great site for people to know about though, hopefully some of these noobs will use it for more than contests. Oh, and we recognize the irony that we are using it for contests, but a few of us at TVW have personal VC accounts as well! Thanks!
