War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream Opinions?
SVXDan83 posted a topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I've been really digging the new War On Drugs release "Lost In The Dream". Has anyone here picked up the vinyl release of it? If so, what are your impressions of the quality of it? I've been burned by some mediocre pressings of new releases as of late, and was wondering what anyone's thoughts were on this one? Thanks! -
Just got mine! Aside from the alternate guitar solo on 'The Shadowlands', it is perfect! Incredibly happy to have gotten my own copy before they sold out!

That's fair. Maybe saying every release should be a double LP is a bit of an exaggeration on my part. I guess my point is that albums are generally longer now than they were when everything was primarily released on Vinyl. So, when I see a new(er) release thats > 10 tracks or > 45 minutes in length, I get a weary when its only a single LP release. So, in that sense, I'd rather these releases be cut onto 2 LPs.

Not sure if that's a serious question or not? But, yeah, I think so. Why try to cram everything onto 1 record and end up with compromised quality. If I'm choosing to buy something on vinyl, I know I already really like it and want to hear it without compromised quality. I think this shitty pressing is a perfect example. I wasted say like $19 on something I don't even want to listen to because it sounds like shit. I'd have happily shelled out $5-10 more for something that is listenable.

That is, honestly, a colossal disappointment! (Besides the cover of Wonderwall) "Shadowlands" was the first real Ryan Adams song I got into. That solo is incredible. Has anyone posted a recording of the "new" version?

According to an interview he did when Ashes & Fire came out, all his albums except Easy Tiger were recorded on 100% analog equipment. So, I'd suspect that given the right treatment, there's no reason for them all not to sound great on vinyl. I don't have any of his earlier stuff on vinyl, but I've heard those pressings sound pretty bad.

I was just wondering if anyone else who owns a copy of this has noticed a lot of background noise during the quieter parts of 'The Devil in my Bloodstream'? As the song progresses, the hiss just turns to distortion in the heavier parts. Did I just get a bad copy, or is this a known issue? Has anyone had any luck getting bad copies exchanged? Thanks!

I'm very anxious to hear what people think about the quality of this compared to the original. I never had a chance to buy the original pressing, and there's no way I could shell out $300+ for it on eBay now. But, $65 seems like a bargain! I've been really happy with the quality of the Ashes & Fire and Cardinology pressings I own, so the bar is set high for this one. My copy from Amazon is in the mail!
