  1. Yeah, I think the 7" is probably already sold out. I got an email from Glacial Place that more or less suggested that.

The video for "Coyotes" was solid, the song itself just didn't stand out. Kind of seems like a strange choice for getting people pumped about the album. "Lampshades on Fire" was better, just not quite as attention-grabbing as the lead singles from the last two albums.

It's Modest Mouse though; cautious optimism has been the name of the game for nearly a decade.

  2. The MCR site says it's a Newbury Exclusive, Newbury says it's exclusive, I'm inclined to believe it's exclusive. And yeah, totally agree, TCFSW is perfect on solid red. The thing about vinyl is that it's a real work of art; I get that Newbury is generally overpriced but a collector's item is a collector's item. I make $9 an hour but if I fucking love the music and I decide it's worth it, it's totally worth it.

But nobody should ever pay $45 for a Sublime album lol.

  3. Danzig had more good songs than Graves because he was in the band longer and they produced the most material, but "Famous Monsters" is the most consistently badass Misfits record. I definitely prefer Michale Graves a vocalist, even his solo stuff is awesome. The thing about "Famous Monsters" is that pretty much any song could be your favorite; there's totally nothing wrong with early Misfits, obviously, but Danzig's albums had a lot of filler in some places. "Famous Monsters" (and "American Psycho," to a large extent) was just all killer riffs, big stadium-sized choruses, and probably most importantly it contains "Saturday Night," which isn't only the best Misfits song but also one of my favorite songs of all time (I wrote a short story based on the song for my university's writing journal). And seriously, considering his age when he joined the band, Graves could've probably stuck around a lot longer and saved the band from producing the half-assed punk-by-numbers embarrassment that was "The Devil's Rain." I saw them play in Pensacola last December, with Jerry Only as the vocalist, and the collective eye-roll that took place when this version of the band tried to tackle Graves-era songs stays with me to this day.

In short, Michale Graves rules. My favorite Misfits record I own is the "Famous Monsters" picture disc. The album cover is kind of cheesy but perfect for the music.

  4. Super disappointed by the "new" single. I mean, if a band's been playing something live for...3-4 years, is it really new

It also sounds like it could've been a B-side off We Were Dead... and the re-use of the da-da-das from "World at Large" just seems like a huge lack of creativity - especially after 7 years!

I'm really hoping the album is better than this.

    This artwork is great though.

Yeah that's true, the live version from 2011 doesn't sound much different from this. Still, Modest Mouse is one of those bands whose songs make more sense in the context of a full album. For the last decade or so it seems like they've been picking crowd-pleasers as their singles, so this is kind of a cool curveball. Maybe I'm just being optimistic.
