  2. I know there's like a million topics on this but I haven't found anything that's similar to what I'm experiencing.

I recently bought a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB DC and I love it, but I just started to notice a hum. I would always listen to my music through speakers and I just recently started to listen to it through headphones. When I have the headphones on the hum is very noticeable, through the speakers it's not until you turn up the volume.

I googled and searched for everything. I don't believe it's motor because the hum is on no matter if the turntable is on or not. The cart is in place so there's nothing wrong there. I'm figuring it's the ground wire or something to do with grounding.

I'm kinda new to hi-fi stuff so I don't know if there's anything special I need to be doing for grounding? Other than just having the clip screwed in…

One thing I found that was interesting was that when I removed the RCA cables that came with the turntable the hum disappeared, so I figured I just have to get different cables. I got some RocketFish ones which I know probably aren't the best but I just needed something not expensive to test this out. Once I plugged those in the hum was back, but louder. I tried putting the ground wire back on from the other cables and the hum was still there but quieter. I noticed, too, that if I touch my fingertips to the grounding terminal the hum goes away…

Does anyone have any recommendations or insight into what's going on?

  3. Hello everyone!

I think it's time for me to upgrade my turntable (I have an AT-LP60 *insert booing here*). After reading the post on here about some ideas for turntables I decided I wanted to do the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB. However, it seems like those are sold out like every where and I can't seem to find one, so my question is should I wait for them to come back into stock (if they ever come back in stock) or should I just get something else? Is there anything that's in the same price range but maybe better?
