Lol easy there tiger.. I also state that I prefer to trade.
Since when are Discogs prices taken as gospel? Go check out Wintersleep's debut album on Discogs.. it's going for $1000.
The Elephant promo is going for $500 on eBay, and I've seen plenty of people selling Like Clockwork for around $100.
And I know, I know.. this isn't eBay. But it's not Discogs, either.

Thanks Sid the Kid.. but I'm nowhere near Toronto (NS to be exact, about an hour from where Crosby grew up).. I'd be ordering one online. Yeah, you can find some nice used stuff on there for sure, I actually bought the Art DJ preamp off of there.
I will eventually just give this TT to my brother someday, but I actually like it so far, good starter. I'll grab a Rega somewhere down the road, without question.

Alright guys, I've had my turntable set-up for a little while now, but have been noticing that maybe my Stylus may need improving. My set-up is as follows..
Pro-Ject Elemental Turntable w/ Ortofon OM 5E Cartridge
Art DJ Pre II Phono Preamp
Audioengine A2+ Powered Speakers
Now.. it's not a bad set-up, and yeah, I am new at this stuff.. but I have one record in particular that I LOVE (Wintersleep's 1st album).. and it hasn't been playing as well as I'd like. First off, while I've had the LP for about 13 years, it wasn't played often (no more than 5-10 times) and when I first played it on my Pro-Ject, it skipped so bad that the needle knocked right off the record. So I gave it a good cleaning, played it again and it only skipped twice, but stayed in the groove. The record is in excellent shape, mind you.. but a friend suggested that I get a better stylus for it, as it may help.. so here I am... and no, I am not just replacing it to play this one album, that would be ridiculous.
I actually have a $150.00 gift card from PlanetofSound, so the budget isn't an issue for me to pick up a new one. Just need a bit of advice..
1) Will a higher quality stylus play better (yes, obviously) but more importantly, cause a record to skip less?
2) What kind of stylus/cartridge would you recommend for my type turntable? ($100-$300 range)
3) Or am I just crazy and need to clean the record again? lol
Thanks in advance, guys!

Looking for:
BSS: You Forgot it in People (Purple vinyl)
Wintersleep: Welcome to the Night Sky, Self Titled, Untitled
QOTSA: Songs For the Deaf (anything that's not a boot)
Just seeing if anyone has any of these they would be willing to part with.
-
Not really picky, if I had to go with one, I'd say the original UK pressing. Love the cover. I've heard it's the better of the two, but I'm sure the red vinyl is great too.

Thanks again for your suggestion of contacting people off Discogs. I have just spun my copy bought from a seller in Norway and it sounds outstanding. Three years or more of hunting has been worth it. This is the version to own if this album is one of your desert island discs.
I owe you a beer, shame you are in Canada. I will have to drink yours for you
Not a problem, glad I could help! I'm currently on my own search for the original Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age. Gonna be hefty to pay for, but worth it once I get it. One of my desert island discs, as you put it.
Thanks for the beer!

Oh yeah, I see what you mean. Last time I was looking for a rare album, I messaged each person that had it on Discogs and asked if they were interested in selling. That gives you 15 people for Superunknown, give it a try! I had quite a few responses when I did it.

Look on Discogs, there are plenty under 100.00

Interested in DFA1979, still available?
-
Looking for:
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze (Legit official copy - no bootlegs)
Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine (white, pink or black vinyl version)
Pearl Jam - No Code and Yield (will consider any PJ really, as long as they are official)
If anyone has any that they want to get rid of, please let me know! Thanks
-
Prices for both Nirvana?
-
Which DFA1979 one is that? Pink marble or black vinyl?
-
So has anyone owned the Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Genie?
-
I vote neither. Grab at least a used Debut III. Both the Elemental and the standard Orbit have way too many compromises to be even worth considering.
I can get a used Debut for 350.00... too much? I suspect it is.

The elemental had a horrible sound to it. Motor noise was transferred into the signal. No dust cover and an awkward design. The U-turn while not being perfect at least had a good sound to it.
Thanks for the input. Luckily, the store has one hooked up so I can go test it out, might do that this weekend. The good thing is that the U-Turn is the same price no matter what, and I have no doubt I'd be happy with it.

I'd save for the Rega then. No point in spending a few hundred $ now, only to upgrade later. Seems like a waste, IMO anyway.
What's the fun in that?
-
I've never tried either, but I'm just looking at future upgrading for you (trust me, you will get to this point). Orbit can be upgraded, the Elemental the most you can do is change the stylus or maybe the cart if you can find one the exact same weight with the same tracking force.
Oh yeah, I get that, and I agree with you, but if I end up wanting to go further, I see a Rega in my future.
