FED UP! - LIVE AT WFMU 7" Review on INEFFECT ZINE FED UP! “LIVE AT WFMU” 7” (Punk Rock Distro/Welfare Records, Released 2011) The Pat Duncan show on NJ’s WFMU has flown under the radar for what seems like an eternity. Playing underground hardcore/punk, hosting interviews of bands and ex fanzine editors (including yours truly) and in this case having bands play live on the air. On February 5, 2009 it was Fed Up on on the show and this 7” captures the nights festivities. For those unfamiliar with Fed Up they play straight up old style hardcore in the vein of early Warzone/Cause For Alarm with a dash of humor tossed in from time to time. Nothing fancy, just in your face, and most of their stuff is really catchy… just check out their “Sheer Poetry” CD from 2010 on United Riot Records for proof. Love the layout on this short 7” with a little intro paying homage to Pat Duncan and all the help he has given to bands plus a few candid shots of the band at the studio. Looks like they played 13 songs this night and you get 7 of them here and must say a pretty good recording for a live on the radio set. Worth noting the bands lighter/funnier side as the between song banter between songs had me cracking up with personal cheap shots aimed at friends/and or other band members. Worth a check. -CW

FRONTLINE SOLDIERS - OATH OF LOYALTY 7" Ep Review in Empty Hands Zine Frontline Soldiers were a NYC Oi! band that began in 2000. This 7" is a recording from a 2004 session, which preceded their break up. It was dropped in 2011 after hibernating in the United Riot Records vault. FLS have a tough, low end Oi! sound that stomps the trademark of NYC on the ears. The production is solid. Good bass presence as is essential in a good Oi! sound. The mix is tight and brings all the levels together to be quite a force. It's a tough, gritty sound. It truly holds a US Oi! sound. "Warrior Rising" especially incorporates a hardcore sound. The band tends to speed it up more often than not. Fast paced oi is invigorating and refreshing. The slow paced paced bands in constant homage to late 80s US oi tend to bore me I think that this is where the NYC really comes out. You can't be a skin there without loving punk and hardcore. And all this said - as i work to do a FFO analogy....nothing really fits perfectly. So i would say while a band can get an "Oi!" moniker where most would write off as generic; FLS really has a great, unique sound. 5 songs on this puppy and they are great ones. "American Boot Squad" starts it off and is the stand out track. Aggressive feel with a guitar part that drives it and grabs the listener. Strong musicianship all around. Fresh sound with tough power to a great production. Pick it up. Available on grey/red splatter vinyl. And again, JM Designs kills it with traditional American images. FED UP! - LIVE AT WFMU 7" Review In Maximum RockNRoll Zine For the past two weeks I've been listening to almost nothing but pre-Youth Crew New York and New Jersey hardcore demos and radio shows. This shit would fit in pretty well with most of it, questionable lyrics and all. No lyrics printed but titles like "Butt-Man", "Bodacious Ta Tas" and "Snitch Bitch" are pretty straight forward. Honestly, I don't really give a shit, I'm not going to get down on someone for writing about liking big butts. I've got other shit to worry about. You know the drill, or maybe not, basic hard-core but if you like some of the also ran type of shit off the "NEW BREED TAPE", NYHC played by older Skinhead dudes or maybe the old Back ta Basics shit even, you could probaly get into this record. FRONTLINE SOLDIERS - OATH OF LOYALTY 7" Review in Backstreet Battalion Zine Frontline Soldiers was band from New York City founded in 2000 and it was disbanded in 2004 when their members went to different musical projects (like Offensive Weapon, Skin Disorder or The Infiltrators for example). But they have reunion nowadays and they played gig together with Battle Cry, Fed Up, Offensive Weapon and Sons of Liberty. Band recorded six songs in 2004 and one of them (Reclaim Strength) featured on Streets of America compilation. Five others (American Boot Squad, World War 3, Warrior Rising, Oath of Loyalty and Frontline Soldiers) are on this EP released this year. It is typical American Oi! sound (like other bands from reunion gig) which means faster music (spiced up with HC) with significant bass line and pro-US lyrics without PC bullshit like Red, White & Blue for example. And you can really hear this from the first song. Joe´s vocal reminds me vocalist from The Barons (mainly in the first song). EP is packed in well done cover from JM Design – Muna, who wrote also a few words about the band on the paper which is added to the EP (sadly without lyrics but with band photo). EP was released in limited edition to 300 copies on coloured vinyl (I have beige one with spots and I don´t know if there any different combinations). Record label said that this is the music for fans of Oxblood, YDL, Combat 84, Snix or Boot Party and I have no reason to disagree. This is fine EP for collectors and fans of not so well known bands. FED UP! - LIVE AT WFMU 7" This is a sweet little slab of wax. FED UP! takes some hand picked tunes from a live WFMU set to doff the cap to WFMU Pat Duncan. A well written tribute to this NYC scene stalwart accompanies a powerful set. 7 songs of straight up NYHC would get any dance floor moving. The production is thick and clear - every instrument gets a clear platform to show how FU gets down. It opens with the ruff "Aimless Youth", We get sped through the fun and energetic "Butt Man" and closing of the first side, ends perfectly with the looming breakdown of "Stand Proud". Side B starts with the the 10 second "Tattoos" and a Murphy's Law-esque "Bodacious Ta Ta's" in lyrics and music. The first half of "Snitch Bitch" isn't quite as tight as I'm sure the beers are kicking in but by the second half you are singing and then to end, "FYL" blasts through a great finish of mosh friendly riffs and a good solid outro wraps it up. The energy and spirit and plain old fun of FED UP! definitely comes through in this 7". You feel like you are at the show. Good times. I would also like to give a nod to Jen and Muna at J.M. Designs - the layout is crisp. Straight black and white photos and a sweet clean design helps this 7" stand out from hastily placed hardcore layouts. WWW.UNITEDRIOTRECORDS.COM
