I'd place a pretty good bet that he doesn't even like this band, but will pretty much just licence anything that was attached to a major, to give his label the appearance of being a "major player". There is no way he's making more than maybe 1500 or so per pressing after licencing and pressing, and raping people on prices.

I've done several represses myself, and have never had to pay a dime for licencing. If the bands actually liked you, there is a good chance they could negotiate with their label to avoid licencing fees. But that would entail working closely with the band, which obviously your not too fond of.

They must be counting on 2012 being the end of the world because why else would you cut the original tape into little pieces and disseminate them to the public unless you knew you were never going to press the album again?

So I got my Box Car vinyl today. For the most part, it's a good vinyl pressing but I get the feeling it was just mastered from the CD. overall, it sounds kinda flat without the aggression of the CD. mine was slightly warped. was anybody else's copy warped?

the 3 song CD sampler and Boy Lilikoi pretty damn good though. looking forward to the album.

the artist is Anthony Ausgang. he probably did the hook up with MGMT because Sonic Boom (aka Pete Kember from Spacemen 3/Spectrum) produced the album. he's done a few covers for Experimental Audio Research (Sonic Boom's drone/ambient side project).
