  1. yea, maybe "lack of knowledge" wasn't the best wording, but maybe the dismissal of truth...? When it comes down to it, there is zero proof that there is a god of any sort (that's where faith comes in). science on the other hand has proven time and time again about the origins of our being. Last time I checked science hasn't proven the creation of anything. You may think that a Supreme Being creating humans sounds far fetched, I don't think it sounds worse than There were some clouds of atoms and elements that collided, exploded and formed millions of species including humans than can think, create, perceive and communicate. Thats like throwing a stick of dynamite into a junk yard and expecting a perfectly working vehicle to be created from the blast. If anything I'd say ALL science points to a God
  2. The blood thing really is difficult for a lot of people. It has NOTHING to do with refusing to accept technological advances, that's an ignorant statement. It has everything to do with our belief that blood is sacred and that it should not be shared. It's a principle in the bible and we still observe it today. It's symbolic and we view it as something that should not be transferred from one person to person. There are many alternatives to blood transfusions and the truth is, it makes for cleaner/safer procedures. In fact, some newer hospitals are starting to become 100% bloodless. They are not witness run hospitals are anything, science is just starting to see that there are cleaner alternative. Have witnesses died from not accepting blood? Of course Have people died from receiving blood that had some sort of disease that somehow made its way passed the screening tests or was in some other way tainted? You better believe it
  3. I can't quite agree with you on religion being an ignorance to nature. In fact, I think just the opposite. I can't really understand how people can say we all are here by chance. And how many religious people are Scientists? There are quite a few For one my wife is a Chemist at a major drug corp for the last few years and was in college for quite a number of years before that, I can't see her being ignorant to nature. My brother in law just received his masters degree in physics and is now teaching. They are both Jehovah's Witnesses Allison - we do use both parts of the bible. There was the mosaic law in the old testament and then there were other commandments that were also handed down. Jesus did do away with the mosaic law, e.g. why we don't observe the sabbath, why we don't care about dairy and meat on the same table, but there are principals that were established that we do observe, such as no blood transfusions, no eating of blood, not killing people.
  4. I honestly didn't know about the "no voting" thing and I was wrong and apologized about the other. I will not apologize for the other as I think religion is the lack of knowledge. that's not a "I'm better than you" thought or anything, it's what I believe in, my religious belief, if you will. you are more than entitled to your belief but i think it's insane to say religion is the lack of knowledge. Care to explain
  5. we're not revising dates here, we know right from the start that we don't know when the end is so we've never put a date on it. There have been witnesses who did and the majority of them aren't Jehovah's witnesses anymore. And we follow the whole bible and there really isn't much contradiction. There is the old testament with the Mosaic law then in the Greek scriptures Jesus' law took precedence. And who knew the no voting thing would be such a hot topic. I'm not criticizing the government, nor do I have any opinions on what they should do. I'm not involved in politics. I obey all laws though, pay my taxes, register for selective service when I turn 18 even though i'd never fight in a war but in regards to which candidate to vote for I decline to choose.
  6. grade school was definitely not easy lol. And look, I see a lot of people starting to get a little heated up. In short I'll just say, we do what is in the bible. If it was in the bible, we do it. Not in the bible, we avoid it. A lot of people here probably don't believe in the bible though so this convo will go no where. Jesus didn't vote, didn't run for "office" and said that man was not able to rule man He also didn't celebrate birthdays, even his own so thats where that comes from. And to "theman", nice research. We didn't "believe" thats when the end was coming. I'm sure some people did but it wasn't our official date or anything. The bible straight up says no one knows when the end is coming, why would we start putting dates on it?
  7. sorry, I was thinking of the Mormons. and for me personally (opinion alert) not voting is one of the most ignorant and complacent things you can do. I respect your opinion but IMO, it'd be like electing a new captain on a sinking ship
  8. ???? Not sure where the PG thing came from because thats not true. Any whats wrong with not voting? Men are imperfect, no matter who is behind the helm of this mess it won't get better.
  9. A forum banned you for saying you are a Jehovah's Witness? It wasn't a large forum with national sponsors or anything but yeah pretty much lol. Plus there was about 6 or 7 pages of mockery before that. What can I say, people don't like being woken up on Saturday mornings lol
  10. yeah I know that our organization personally doesn't support and encourage rallys or yelling at people and stuff like that. We're also not affiliated with any political party, we don't even vote, and are not involved with wars or any violence for that matter.
  11. I'm only slightly hesitant because the last time I brought it up on a forum I was made fun of and then banned lol. Let's try to keep the flaming to a min. I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses
  12. without getting into a heated debate, I can agree that 99% of religions are mostly corrupt, political or have their own agendas. I personally feel I'm in one of the very few organized religions that aren't trying to get something from someone and that doesn't have a personal agenda. Just my opinion
  13. lol there are ZERO religious people in this thread. I am actually very religious but after seeing other people in this thread, I won't even get started with that lol
  14. i don't know about everyone else but up here in NY, we missed Vampire Weekend's first performance and I'm assuming some skits with that.
  15. +1 for the help. They didn't have the belt size needed (24.5) so I ordered from a different site. Although needledoctor has a good sale on pre-amps at the moment so I may pick one of those up to. I'm not the most handy person in the world so if this new belt doesn't help, any other ideas on how to troubleshoot or where else to poke around? Thanks for any and all help guys
