The widget is on the website where it says Earn $10.  It generates a link that acts as the referral code.

OK maybe I'm overthinking things but I just paste "http://www.vinylmeplease.com/refer-a-friend/" and it works for the other person even though I don't see the widget (whose image appears in the FAQ) when I click through to that page myself?

Because that's not the "fbuy.whatever" url link everyone else is using here...

  2. I'm older than the average fanbase and really only came around to this particular album recently, having known VMP was releasing it (I was the right age for the first album, though). This is a much better album, no question, and might be their best (even considering all those good new singles).

At the time I probably 1. Found it too glum, as living through the Bush Iraq years was bad enough; didn't need a soundtrack for it... and 2. It was holding up the sequel to Think Tank in my mind, which had by then grown on me (it's got some of the best Blur songs even though it really doesn't work as an album). I was also waaaaay into experimental, free-folk psych-game stuff like Charalambides and Sunburned Hand of Man so I wasn't really feeling pop sounds either.

  3. There's probably hardly anything good left but Norman Records has been having a 60% sale all day: https://www.normanrecords.com/reduced

I was seconds too late to buy Colleen's Everyone Alive Wants Answers reissue! Kind of kills me. I think there's like an hour left or something. Just got home.

EDIT: Lots of obscure UK indie 7inches, CDs and CDrs for the adventurous...

I don't think the movie is anywhere near as important or popular as the soundtrack. The only reason i even bothered to watch the movie was because of the music and the fact that i knew that soundgarden/AIC/ PJ made appearances in it. I agree with pretty much most people here who have posted talking about what a significant soundtrack this was at the time and really for a few years following it as well. I was 15  years old living in a 5k person town when it came out and was probably still listening to it regularly when i went to college because it was so good.

I'll have to check it out. Even though I'm big into SP I haven't tracked down all their early comp tracks. Also exclusive Westerberg is pretty neat, especially if it's the first stuff he released just after the Replacements' break up.

I think one reason could be age, not sure how old you are.   I think if you were 16+ when it came out you were probably obsessed with it like I was if You were I to that scene.  If you like late 90s music more you'd probably consider the others classic, personally not really a fan of any of those Batman Forever?.

Old enough to have been around for that soundtrack but the film would not have made it to the small town I was living in, at least not for more than a few weeks at best. I think it has more to do with hip-hop already replacing grunge by 1992 for my peer group. I'm sure some older kids were into it, but I remember them talking about stuff like Sex, Lies and Videotapes instead.

WAY better soundtrack than any of the ones you just mentioned.

Exclusive tracks include two by PJ, 1 by Soundgarden, 1 by Smashing Pumpkins, 1 by Chris Cornell, and 2 by Paul Westerberg. The PJ and Pumpkins songs are widely regarded as some of the best tracks in their catalogs.

The only new tracks that were "non-exclusive" were from AIC, Mudhoney, and Screaming Trees... and the ST song is the only one most people know or care about, so it's handy to have it here.

So weird that no one I know ever talked about this growing up... Maybe it's just taken for granted and I missed that boat.

Just asking, what would be Adults first grunge compilation?

    This one too: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Sub-Pop-200/release/1543447

When you put it in your cart, it removes VAT charges and ends up being £41.74 (~$51.64) shipped to the US.

(I suppose that's also assuming you're using a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees)

Whoa, pays to click through to the payment window! Thanks for that. I got the same charge. That's nifty to say the least. It's the cheapest option on the market!

  8. I don't think I'll ever get it. At least other 90s soundtracks like Romeo + Juliet, Batman Forever and Mission:Impossible had exclusive tracks or b-sides by bands that were hard to find back then. Does this have exclusive tracks? I feel besides "Pearl Jam collectors buy everything" and "baby's first grunge compilation" I haven't been given an explanation for the love of this.

Shaping up to be a real solid album. Definitely seems like Gorillaz is in the mindsets of a lot more folks compared to how it was during the Plastic Beach era. Especially when there is also this to keep in mind:

So we might have another album come next year. Of course he did also say that about Plastic Beach 2/Sea-Sides but we're not gonna talk about that. <_<

Knowing Damon, he'll work on those tracks until 2023 :P

edit: VMP sort of reminds me of Newbury with all their unnecessary pressings. Also, I am a grumpy old man.

I say this as a biased VMP subscriber, but I actually find their exclusives to me quite the opposite of Newbury.  A lot of them are great new releases and it seems to me like they put a lot of time into selecting them.  And their pricing is usually in line with, maybe a couple bucks more, than you can find the standard releases for.  Newbury seems to re-press albums that are readily available for cheap and really jacks up the price.

I'm somewhere in between both of you. I do feel like I'm being sold stuff that I either own or that my eyes have glazed over at the record store for years/decades for over 80% of the VMP catalog and around 70% for NC.

NC has a back stock that speaks to me more, mostly cuz they have a lot of genre differentiation and I could stand owning more jazz standards than I do, and they have a good selection. VMP has more electronic, which NC should do more of IMO (Their Com Truise exclusives rn is a good step in that direction). I mean, Boomkat puts out some decent exclusives, but not like these two dedicated merchants.

Bought my first NC order the other day and subscribed for VMP 3 months, due to Demon Days. I hope the rumours of a female electronic lp next month are true; I don't have too many of those besides the odd Goldfrapp and Ladytron. Besides, I could always swap for that The Chills reissue if it doesn't pan out or the June release ends up being something I don't want.

Canadians have it a bit tough though, as shipping from UK is cheaper overall for them, but there is also a chance of VAT charge (which apparently has something to do with the ongoing Brexit complications, as explained to me by my UK fulfillment manager)

That explains an absurd charge I got from a UK reseller (basically the cost of the item all over again) that I've essentially never gotten before. That leaves only the EU nation-states for "cheapest" shipping outside of Canada for vinyl at the moment. I might just have to only buy local from now on and give up direct/mail-order, which I have from the States. Can't buy direct from fave labels like TRL and Important anymore.

But hey, I grabbed that gorgeous colour lp of the new Jacaszek from a local store the other day, and you guys really try much harder than most other labels (*cough* Light In The Attic charging a flat 19USD shipping fee per item *cough*) with the best rates, so I don't sweat.
