Been listening since red, but I really dig yellow. And not just because it's (part of) the latest release, but I've definitely listened to it the most since then. As someone else said, when a band evolves it takes a bit of getting used to but if you're prepared and willing to go with it, you go along.

A mate of mine is a touring sound tech, and ever since he pointed out the drum sound on Blue to me, I can't help but like it a little less.

I bought my first road bike around six months ago. A Scott CR1 Team. After a year or so of riding on a flat bar commuter, it was great to get onto a road bike. I've gone from doing 20km rides to 60km, and really enjoying it.

 

The weather has started to turn here though, and i'm not too keen to ride on the road in the rain (Perth drivers are notoriously bad, particularly when its wet). Not riding is doing my head in....I actually miss it!

 

Great episode! And I'm not ashamed to say that mason is insane but I'm very attracted to his crazy hair. My friend said he reminds him of the joker. Totally.

 

I said the exact same thing. He is definitely channeling Heath Ledger's Joker.......and that last episode. Goddamn slicing his face and feeding it to the dogs!!!! Biggest WTF of the season. Any series.

These two recent shows come to mind for me. Both only lasted single, 13 (or so) episode seasons, but both had great concepts and were well written and produced and could have run for a couple of seasons at least.

 

Others that I would have loved to see wrapped up more concisely or given a longer run would include;

Deadwood

Rome

Ned & Stacey (one of the best sitcoms ever)

I think it's demand. The record industry is a business that's been trying to recover since the digital / napster era. Vinyl has been one of the few boosts in physical media in a very long time. They are maximizing profits as much as possible.

 

To expand on that, I think the increased popularity of vinyl now when compared to 5-10 years ago, means new collectors are trying to fill their collection with older, OOP records that had much smaller pressing runs. Once upon a time, a run of 1000 was enough for all the fans of a particular band, but nowdays 3000-5000 is more likely.

 

I don't think that there will be as many records from today that will be worth $80-$200 in 5-10 years time, unless its a supermegarare coloured pressing designed to capitalise on the increased interest in vinyl.

When it was originally released, I bought a copy of Elephant by the White Stripes. Mine was black vinyl, so I arranged to trade someone for the US press with coloured vinyl.

Got my copy yesterday, along with a nice note saying Mischief Brew tried to make it out to Australia but things didn't quite work out.....I would love them to tour down here!

 

The LP is great too. Good quality sound for such an old recording.

The second press was a 9" black version!

We had been together for seven years or so, and the pressure from family and my girl's friends was mounting.

 

I was dead set on not doing the typical proposal.....every holiday we would go on, I'd get text messages or phone calls "are you gonna propose while you're away?". Every get together with family was met with the usual questions.

 

We had a discussion about it, as the constant questions from her friends started playing with her mind.....making her think there was a reason why I didn't want to marry her or commit. I reiterated that I didn't want to do it because everyone thought I should, I would do it on my terms when I was ready. I joked that we would be walking the dogs on a Tuesday morning, and i'd bend down to pick up their poop and come up with a ring in my hand.

 

So after the discussion I was determined to do it a little different, and also show that I was willing to commit then and there. I knew I was going away interstate for work quite a few times in the coming months, so I bought her a teddy bear for valentines day (I've never bought her a teddy bear, and she's not the sort of girl that expects anything more than a few flowers). What she didn't realise was that I'd bought a ring and had a dressmaker hide it inside the teddy bear and seal it back up.

 

Over the next couple of months, when we would talk on the phone, if she ever said she was missing me, I told her to hug the teddy.....it was my replacement while I was away. I really hammed it up and by the time I got home for the last time, it had become 'that silly teddy'.

 

I still didn't budge and tell her about the ring, as I wasn't feeling that the timing was right. 

 

Fast forward to October, and I was going away for another three weeks, so we went out to dinner to her favourite restaurant, had a couple of bottles of wine, and some amazing sex when we got home. Laying in bed afterwards, she told me how much she was going to miss me, and I pulled out the old, 'well, don't worry. You've got the teddy to keep you company", which was met with a roll of the eyes and a response of 'that stupid bloody teddy'.

 

I got up and threw it to her, and said  "You just need to squeeze it harder." She did with a puzzled look on her face, and replied "I feel like i'm squeezing his brains out".

 

I replied, "Can you feel his brains?" 

 

Another puzzled look, and then a change in her face as she felt the ring. "What is it?"

 

I responded "What does it feel like?"........."A riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing?!!?!?!?!?!"

 

Like a few of you have said, the cost of the ring doesn't matter. I bought a simple white gold band, and had it engraved with "W. Y. M. M. ?" on the inside ("will you marry me?" if you can't figure it out). This was partly because I knew she wasn't too materialistic, but also I worried that she might throw out the teddy or the dogs might get to it.

 

I offered to replace the symbolic ring with a 'proper one', but she loves the band. Instead of splashing out, she's spending the money on getting our wedding rings custom designed by a local artist.

Can anyone point me to another online source of OOP posters? I'm trying to find one in particular, and the only listing that has been on ebay for the last couple of years is way overpriced. Its a Todd Slater Ween poster from 2007.

I saw them first just before the 59 sound came out, and Brian was great. He even tried his best to help us get a mate in who forgot his ID. Fast Forward to their headlining show in Perth back in May, and he was drunk and awkward. 

 

You could always tell he wasn't an extrovert, but getting drunk and saying/doing awkward things didn't help the cause at all. 

 

It's a bit hard to see the colour in the moon, but you get the drift. Now that it's healed, it looks heaps better.

The Poison City retail store still has copies of the previous press. Not sure if you international guys are keen to pay international shipping, but you could definitely grab an earlier press if you really want one.

It's really hard to find LP mailers in Australia - you can't just go out any buy anything that is a suitable size. I usually keep some old ones I receive from orders I place online in case I need to send something out.

 

Having said that, if I don't have any LP mailers, I have used the recycled cardboard taped together method. But much more protected than that. If I do use this method;

 

Vinyl is outside the cover, inside the plastic sleeve.

The plastic sleeve is covered with another plastic sleeve to ensure nothing slips out

I tape the LP to an oversized piece of card, ensuring no movement in transit

The oversized card is packed in a flatpack cardboard box, usually with another piece of card inside to maintain shape.

 

It works well for comics too!

I bit...$160 with shipping to aus, but this is my favourite eels album.

I've bought all my coloured copies through ebay. The guy I linked before (http://item.mobilewe...Id=310745479957) has been pretty good with combining postage etc.

 

But it's still shipped from the UK, so you'll have to be prepared to pay international shipping.

 

I guess thats one of the only benefits of living in Australia. Whether its a US or UK release, the shipping is equally expensive!

Did you help out with Pennywise and Face to Face when they came out this last spring?

 

Yeah, I did the Brisbane show of that Tour at the Tivoli. I would have done the Perth show too, but was on tour with Chris Isaak.

 

 

 

Work for one of the many touring companies. There's probably 8-10 that bring actual bands out here. Anyway, most of the bands that tour out here need merch people.

Alternatively, start your own touring company with your parents money. Bring bands over you want to see, and do merch yourself.

 

Actually, the touring companies don't generally have any involvement in the merch side of things, unless it's putting the band's management in contact with a merch company. The only exception to this is promoters who have bought into a merchandising company, but that's still technically a separate business.

 

There's 5-6 merch companies over here that do merch for touring artists. They sometimes get the job directly through the band or their management, but more often than not, it is through an association with a global merchandising company. For touring acts, it's a cheaper option to have it printed over here than bring it with them from overseas.

 

I've been selling merch for 10 years. It started out with local bands, and then one day the band were supporting an Australian touring act, and I spoke to their seller and got the hook up for some touring acts. Then some time later, the Australian act I was working for were supporting an international act, and I did the same thing. It's all just networking really.

I've been doing merch for bands that tour Australia for a while now. Whenever I've had the opportunity to work for an artist/band that I am a fan of, I take my vinyl with me to get signed if the opportunity arises. I've had stuff signed by Faith No More, The Dandy Warhols, AFI, Tiger Army, Bon Iver, Tim Barry, Frank Turner, John Butler, The Coup, Dillinger Escape Plan, Rodriguez, Sage Francis and a few others I can't think of. Oh, and I have the Thrice 'Beggars' signed which came with that original order back when it was released.

 

I would never buy signed records. For me, having the record signed is a personal statement of record that I worked for/met/saw that particular artist. Similarly I wouldn't sell any of these, as I honestly don't think they'd be valuable to anyone but me.

Introduce Yourself is being reissued on a numbered, limited edition 180gm yellow vinyl LP on October 14th.

I'm guessing we care a lot and KFAD will follow.

This sort of preorder is just excessive. I caved on a couple of 2LP deluxes over the last few years, but to be perfectly honest....I'd rather only have to turn the record once to listen to the whole thing.

And like someone else mentioned, I'll just wait to pick up the standard version locally.

Real Groovy is cheaper than all the Sydney stores, and has more of a range than all the Sydney stores combined.
