I agree with both of you (Sammy and thedavidescapeplan). I am not anti-piracy, but the argument of lower prices and drm-free has yet to be proven.
The $1.29 per track DRM-free iTunes model is kind of ridiculous and eMusic does have a sparse selection (but it is getting better). To play devils advocate, Apple makes very little (or no) money off of digital tracks they sell through iTunes and use it merely as a vehicle to sell iPods, macbooks, etc. Apple has kind of screwed labels as well, forcing them into a model of making a fraction of what they were formerly making on average, per-track basis. Not that I really care about major labels' revenue streams.
To address the timeliness issue, as I understand it, movie companies are toying with the idea of day-and-date releases of certain movies, i.e. the movie is released in theaters, on DVD, on demand, on-line, etc. It's too early to know whether or not this will reduce piracy.
In short, no one really has the answer.
-
Piracy works because the entertainment industry is greedy. If they sold movies the way people actually wanted them, i.e. with no copy protection, for a reasonable price they'd sell more movies. Whatever, they don't care, the rental places buy 5 million right off the bat.
I have yet to see any empirical data that backs this theory up. You'd think people would be willing to pay for movies if they had no copy protection and were cheaper, but I believe that the advent of DRM-free digital music has proven the opposite.

Can't be plagiarism, but is a possible copyright violation.

RJ... this "misprint" colour... is it just a transition colour from a black pressing to the half brown/half orange?
No, it's a misprint of the half brown/half orange. The orange is much darker and the brown is much lighter. It's most likely a transition color from the half and half to clear brown or vice versa.

NYC is actually the safest i've ever felt on Public Transportation. New Haven you gotta deal with a LOT of gang related shit. It's pants shitting terrifying when a gun gets pulled out.
I have honestly never felt unsafe in the city. I lived in Bushwick for a year and now live in Bed-Stuy, and think it's way safer than a lot of people think. If you can walk down the street while keeping your head up and not looking like an easy target I don't think it's a dangerous city. At least not where I've spent any real amount of time.
Having said that: it may be different if you have a vagina.
Lived in Bed-Stuy in 2008, near the Marcy Projects (Myrtle and Nostrand). I never had a problem there, but several of my neighbors had been mugged or attacked. But I've walked home really drunk from Sputnik or Rope and was never fucked with.
-
Uhhhh what?
You disagree? I feel like the number of 'crazy people that can afford bus fare' is way bigger out west.
I was thinking public transportation in general (i.e. subway and bus). I rarely ride the bus, but I've seen my fair share of crazies on the subway.
-
I would imagine CA public transit is more bat-shit crazy than NYC public transit.
Uhhhh what?

The one guy states that SXSW badges are $200-$300!? Uh, it's more like $700 for a music badge.
-
Nobody believes me that Simon Pegg appears a few times in Band of Brothers.
Proof:
-
SXSW has Cokie The Clown listed as a performer, so maybe.
-
Shane hands down.
And Charlie Wilson died? Damn.

Anyone going to this? This will be my fourth year and it's shaping up to be the best year yet. Musical line up so far:
NOFX
Flogging Molly
Swingin' Utters
Revival Tour

Tony Sly
Teenage Bottlerocket

I've got that Live on a Five set, all black, and 2 on color. (Anti Heros and Wretched Ones)
I have all the "Live on a Five" on color except for the Dropkick Murphys one.

It's half brown/half orange. What were you expecting?
I ordered clear brown so that's what I was expecting. I emailed RJ again but haven't heard back.
sorry, misread your first post.
-
ordered clear brown, got the misprint...hopefully I can exchange it or something.
EDIT: I guess it's not the misprint...all I know is it's ugly as hell and not what I ordered.
It's half brown/half orange. What were you expecting?

Anyone own their 5"? Pretty cool record IMO.
-
We are doing our rooftop cocktail party again but I'm sure it'll be just as crowded as in previous years. Still, free stuff, free food and free drinks!
Is this party RSVP or can you just walk in?
-
The misprint is limited to 147 and is a lighter brown and a darker orange than the half orange/half brown version.
-
Can't wait for the new GATORFACE LP. "The Cleaner" is such an awesome track.

Got mine today. Everything looks great but I received the wrong color :/
Ordered clear brown, got half brown/half orange...I don't really like half/half vinyl so I'm kinda bummed. Help RJ!
Tides,
Sorry you received the wrong color record. RJ will be back in the office tomorrow. Send him an email and he'll get it straightened out. In the meantime, I'll set aside a clear brown for you.

I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I'm pretty sure Scott Heisel posted that RJ worked for Universal or something like that. Someone said that wasn't true, but that someone wasn't RJ (just another board member). All 3 huge releases by MTS/AFS have been Universal (Dude Ranch, Enema, Devil). If he doesn't work there maybe he is close to someone that does. Why else would he get these licenses? I'm sure other people have tried to press these records. Who knows.
I don't feel like digging through posts, but when the EOTS was originally announced, I distinctly remember RJ had said something along the lines of "it's all about who you know", or something like that.
I was the one who said it's who you know, not RJ.
