  1. This is my favorite band of all time. Sad news but 31 years is remarkable. Their output from 1982-1988 (album a year and constant touring) is unmatched. They had some ups (Automatic For the People) and downs (Around the Sun) after that but for the most part their music remained quality. Their newest LP is quite good as well. Farewell R.E.M. and thanks for everything.

I agree with this. I'd add "Up" to the ups (underrated.)

Should have been 311 breaking up instead.

  2. But in that case why buy records at all? Unless your average vinyl enthusiast prefers the sound from his Crosley to the sound from his ipod. I'd say the visual factor is among the top reasons for buying vinyl. And a part of that visual factor is vinyl color.

Trying to decide if this is THE stupidest thing I have read on this board, or only one of the stupidest things.

  3. Don't listen to these people. You are going to fuck up your records.

Anytime you expose records to outside air, they should be packaged individually in mailers. Pull each record out of the jacket and the sleeve. Put the sleeve back inside the jackets. Make sure to tape any insert to the inside of the jacket, because it may get damaged if it slides around.

Make sure to let your car run for a good 30 minutes with the air conditioner on 3 (not 4.) That will normalize the air in the car. Do NOT put any records in the car prior to the normalization of the air. I repeat: Do NOT put any records in the car prior to the normalization of the air.

When you get to your new place make sure to run a radon test. You do not want high radon levels, or the vinyl will degenerate in a matter of hours.

    Hope that helps.

  4. are you really telling me there is nothing valuable in your collection that you have devoted "love and care" to, that you wouldn't try to sell for a profit in the future if you need it?

What does that even mean? Records sit on my shelf until I want to listen to them. Then I listen to them. I love and care for my wife.

i mean really, isn't that why we collectors suck the dicks of our records, so they'll be worth something when we need it?

Fuck no. I "collect" records because I love music, and I think records are the superior format. "We collectors" should stick to Beanie Babies and quit fucking up the market for records.
