  4. Howdy, I just wanted to announce that Richmond, VA's BLACK GIRLS debut full length album "Hell Dragon". The first 100 LPs are pressed on blue vinyl. BLACK GIRLS are a southern/soul/funk/glam/snuff rock 6 piece that is sure to melt your mind. Here's a sweet video: You can preview songs, buy the CD (out now), or preorder the vinyl (comes with a free CD, stickers, etc.) at this page: http://www.worthless-junk.com/?page_id=91 Early Review: "In my 30-plus years seeing live music, I have never seen a band with more commercial potential than Black Girls. And it is a natural charisma they possess. It isn't calculated or contrived in any way. On stage, they have that rare ability to endear themselves to just about anybody without even trying. The casual ease with which I've seen them seduce many a crowd is that elusive "it" that defines star power. Either you have it or you don't — and Black Girls most definitely have "it." All of this charisma would be for naught if they didn't have the songs to back it up. On "Hell Dragon," their second full-length release for local label Worthless Junk Records, the band has captured what it does best — write instantly memorable tunes. A combination of Motown soul and classic pop, Black Girls' angst-free melodies are emboldened with a swaggering, low-simmering sensuality that recalls Prince, Modest Mouse, Pavement and "Chocolate and Cheese"-era Ween while retaining their own distinctive, libidinous voice. The corporeal looseness of their compositions inveigles the listener through persuasive seduction. It is sexual music without ever being lewd, heavy-handed or grotesquely needy. Confident but never conceited, Black Girls are always in the mood to help you slip into something more comfortable." -Chris Bopst (founding member of GWAR, music columnist) in the Richmond Times Dispatch BLOGS/RADIO STATIONS/ETC: I will send you a copy, please get in touch.
  5. HOWDY I run a label of (mostly) local bands from Richmond, VA. where there's always a lot of cool shit going on. I get rid of plenty of records but want to get my stuff out there to more people who may be interested in it, and in exchange get more new or used records to sell at a store in town where I sell records. So if you run a label, a distro, or are just a dude with some records you would trade for some stuff of mine - get in touch! Let's take money out of the equation here and get back to doing some sweet trades. WHAT I WANT: New Records from labels (quantity trades = cool!), Used records from whoever of the punk/indie/hardcore persuasion (sorry, no classic rock) TRADE VALUE = 1 for 1 for new stuff, 1.5 or 2 to 1 for used stuff - it just depends what it is and what condition it's in, if it's something good and relevant and in "like new" condition then 1 for 1 is cool. Just send me a list, brah. RULES = I ship Media Mail within 3 days of the trade (Sorry, I have a job and can't make it to the post office every day) , and expect the same from you. OVERSEAS trades from LABELS are ok - just not individuals, sorry. WHAT TO DO = E-mail is best: [email protected] PMing me here, or responding to this thread, is A-OK too. RELEASES (new to old) NO BS BRASS BAND//BLACK GIRLS "vs." 7" Two Richmond heavy hitters together on one record. NO BS BRASS BAND is a 12 piece brass/drum led by Reggie Pace of BON IVER playing something between New Orleans brass tunes and the soundtrack to Final Fantasy V with an Agent Orange cover or two thrown in as well. BLACK GIRLS are snuff-infused Southern Psych Soul packing young crowds from Richmond to Brooklyn with 3 guitars and 4 part harmonies. Together on stage: NO BS BRASS BAND "No BS!" 2x LP This is the third and latest album from this legendary Richmond group led by BON IVER's Reggie Pace. Packing houses all over the coast since 2005 and making annual appearances at events like THE FEST and BEST FRIENDS DAY, NO BS! has made their mark upon the greater regional music community. This release sees them find the perfect balance in their live recordings and comes with an 18x24 original poster by notable local artist NICK KUZYCK. Live: BLACK GIRLS s/t CD This is the first collections of recorded BLACK GIRLS material that has launched their career as Southern Psych masters. Think ANIMAL COLLECTIVE producing "Dusty In Memphis", and you're halfway there. Regional dates with BEIRUT and FUCKED UP this Fall, and a FILTER MAGAZINE piece coming out soon. Press Video: http://vimeo.com/22762119 WRISTxROCKET "Sailing On Seas of Regret" LP (ltd. to 150) This is the one-man pop punk act of Matt Fisher (SKYLINES, RADIO WAR) that is now a solid full band with various back up members from bands like KINGDOM and HOLD TIGHT! kicking up some ever-posi straight edge pop punk. Bandcamp: http://wristxrocket.com/ REMAIN "s/t" LP (ltd. to 150) Richmond's basement early-emo thrashers REMAIN have been tearing up the local scene for a few years playing a signature style of "scrappy, melodic punk rock that touches on the sound that was known as emo back before that genre became a buzzword for bands whose records were easiest to find at a mall." This is a band that is just getting started, and certainly not to be missed. Bandcamp: http://remain.bandcamp.com/

  7. Ok! I'm down, I feel it's a pretty useful tool and there's a lot of people on here running small labels that I feel could benefit from it, and a lot of folks who do music blogs/radio stations/review for magazines etc. could use some fresh material as well! So that's one, I'm going to work on the list that I have and post it up here soon - anyone else??

  9. Just wondering if anyone knows of, or if this board has already compiled, a decent list of music blogs/magazines/radio shows that will review and/or play (for the radio stations) any music that gets sent to them. I've started to make a list, kinda organized by what genres they focus on - but if it's already been done then that would be rad. If not, let's make one - whaddya say?
  10. Out Now: Two sweet bands from Richmond, VA. on one record - the NO BS! BRASS BAND (led by Reggie Pace of BON IVER) and BLACK GIRLS. No BS! brings their 12+ man signature brass party singalong band with "Ain't Even Gonna Call You" and also play horns on the B-Girls snuff-infused, acid damaged rock/soul with "Broadway". Limited pressing of 300 and less than 125 left. There's also a pretty infamous local basketball rivalry between the two bands, but I guess that's besides the point: more info: http://www.worthless-junk.com Here's a short video of both bands playing a tune from the 7": If anyone has a blog/radio show/etc. I'm happy to send out copies for review, just e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks for reading!
  11. points taken and original post edited for the sake of clarification. i had meant to change that "price matching bit" before but had forgotten - we sell them for what works for us on our site, but on ebay we are more directly competitive with the lowest price we see there. outside of eBay I can't spend my time making sure ours are the "cheapest" as it's hard to justify it in my book. regarding some of the "standards" we carry, available other places, a lot of things I do see other places but they are way over priced or I don't see them very often or I know a lot of people who have said "I want that" and a copy of it being at my house just may push them over the edge (one day). but yeah, it's fun no matter what. if you have any recommendations for things we should carry please send them along.
