  1. It's impossible to burn CDs from FLAC using WMP according to this site. If you choose Apple Lossless (which was an option when I downloaded... is it still?) it will import to iTunes just fine and is still lossless. Otherwise, be honest, at 320 kbps the vast majority of listeners won't be able to tell the difference. Heck, I can't make out a difference between the 2 when I'm trying to hear differences, even through a variety of audio equipment.

Also, for anyone interested, there is a tutorial here on how to import FLAC into iTunes for Mac. The initial setup takes a while, but after that it's pretty simple, and you don't lose any of your metadata.

  2. Update: The response to this album has been overwhelming, causing our

website to slow to a crawl. We THOUGHT we were ready, but...

We've been adding more servers to accommodate the unexpected demand and we expect to be running smoothly in the next few hours. In the meantime, if you've had any problems with downloads from the Ghosts site, don't worry - you'll be able to use your download link again when the site is more stable. Thanks everyone for making this such an

    immediate success.

I just torrented mine after the servers cut off my download about 15 times. You should be able to get the whole thing in about 10 minutes or less if you're connection's up for it. As a side note, the extras that come with the download are super sweet - lots of great photography in there. The total package is at the very least worth the $5 they're asking.

  3. Flashbulb - Soundtrack to A Vacant Life

This guy found out that his music was on iTunes without his involvement (he's on his own label) and put his record on the torrent trackers. If you can spare the cash, he'd appreciate if you bought the CD, but otherwise, you can just download it in MP3 or FLAC.

The music itself is pretty good instrumental music. I'm not sure what to compare it to, as I don't listen to this kind of music too often, but it's totally worth the download.

  4. I don't know why you MP3 haters buy music, but I buy music to listen to it. If you get iTunes Plus or Amazon MP3, the quality is (to me) indistinguishable from CD, and is better quality than the default settings iTunes uses for importing CDs in the first place, and I'd bet 99% of iTunes users keep the default settings. Recent CDs I've bought have been pretty disappointing in the liner notes department, and once I read through them once, they go on my shelf, where they'll likely never be looked at again. This is why I got into vinyl in the first place - you get an actually attractive product with some good looking artwork. With a CD, you get a little booklet with the lyrics and a plastic disc that just has digital music files on it anyway, so why bother with the middleman? So, I buy vinyl of what's available and MP3s of what's not.

Now, DRMed music on the other hand, THAT'S a retarded purchase.

  5. I like these guys, but are they not working with the same people who manage the format? I would think they would help with vinyl. I will drop them a line and see what is up.

Yeah, I know they're managed by Nettwerk, and I thought their label Artist Friendship was a Nettwerk imprint. But then they've said they're looking for someone to release it. If Virgil pressed this though, that would be awesome.

  6. Converting Movies:

Hand Brake - DVD to iPod

MacTheRipper - to create DVD images for makin' copeezz

iSquint - make bigger video files into little ones for iPod

    Torrenting:

use Mininova or the Pirate Bay to download torrent files

Use Transmission for your torrent client

    Audio:

Senuti - take songs off any iPod you plug into your computer

    Audacity - Waveform editor

Max - Convert audio from one format to another - for instance, if you want to put FLAC stuff into iTunes, you have to convert it to something else first. This will do that.

This is all freeware. 90% of anything you need to do on a Mac can be done with freeware.

    EDIT: 100th post, bitch.

  7. - mewithoutYou color vinyl repress

500 more foxes and 500 more ab life on new colors. I'm not telling you what they are, wait until they get here to see them. The pressing plant put the wrong labels on the wrong records, so they trashed them all and are repressing them this week. Ughbrabra to the max.

I hope you got a hold of some of those mislabeled LPs - you can hang on to them and sell them on ebay in a few years for MAX DOLARZ.
