  1. i really think the main difference between us and the kids bullying now a days is cyber bullying. at least when kids were bullied at my schools their home was a safe place, and it wasnt wide spread on what he was doing. now with the internet and facebook they have to go through so much bullying at home. and kids are making facebook status that are incredibly mean and that are spread so fast around the whole school. now its everyone at the school knowing what the bullies are doing.

i think saying kids are wusses is pretty wrong. noone reacts well to bullying, and its a totally shitty situation. it hurts. especially at an age when your "figuring yourself out" i feel so bad for the kids who have taken their lives because of bullying. its so viral these days and kids can do SO much more damage than they could when we were kids

  2. im 99% this is a true statement,

im pretty sure its something like 60-75% of people have at least one seizure in their life, some it may be minor or some even like yours.

so i that is true (im really sure we talked about it in one of my special education classes) hopefully you have the good end of the stick!

  3. thanks so much! great to have some advice from someone who knows cars well!

And im glad you pointed out tax return season, i could really see that impacting prices.

I was talking to my parents and i may end up waiting till summer to buy my car due to family money issues but ill make sure to keep in contact.

one more question for ya though...

living in illinois we have shitttty winters that are terrible for exteriors of cars. I have family in florida, would it be a good idea to look into cars there? I know the weather has had a far less impact on those cars than in chicago... Also would there be any price difference? Theres also alot of retirement homes around my family and was thinking of hitting up the country club "for sale" lists to find some good deals.

  4. I've been a mechanic for several years and I cannot stress how great the 1996-2000 civics are. They are the easiest and cheapest vehicles to maintain and they last forever. Great gas mileage, relatively safe, parts availability is awesome, and it will allow you to save some of your hard-earned cash. If you really want to save on gas mileage look into the earlier Civic VX hatchbacks. I owned one and was able to get 50 mpg on the interstate. I averaged about 40mpg with mixed city/interstate driving.

I wish I still had my 2000 Civic Si.

o wow nice! are there still a lot out there that are in decent shape? im nervous about buying that old because i dont want to have it in the shop often.

and how about the new civics are they easy to maintain? and how about a prius? i imagine the engines are much different, do they need check ups that often, and are they expensive to repair?

  5. Edmunds has a great article on buying used cars.

    http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/articles/78387/article.html

You're on the right path looking at Honda Civics. I've had a 1998 Accord coming on 6 years now and have never had any problems. Civics get good gas mileage, very reliable and they're a very common car so if anything ever breaks it won't cost you say as much as it would to fix a Volvo ;)

looked through this article and really helped me! thanks a ton

I have a toyota Yaris. I love it. it's small. gets me from A to B quickly, great on gas, and I didn't pay much for it. only put $500 down.

my advice is DO LOT'S OF RESEARCH! take your time. Test drive lots of cars. and then when you find the one you want, make the deal online. that's what I did. went to buyatoyota.com, got the best number I could think of, went to the dealer and bought the car. very easy.

and i wana look into these as well, i was walking around campus today and saw one and loved the size and design, i just have to look at the specs

  6. dont go to a dealership by yourself. car salesman will inherently try to fuck you over. bring a friend you trust, a sibling, a parent or a combination of the above - even better if they're somebody with car buying experience.

im not trying to scare you. im just saying that car salesman are scum. dont let them play games with you and dont give the impression you are desperate for a car. thats a bad combination.

also: try to get pre-approved through your bank (or another) for an auto loan BEFORE you go to a dealership and at what interest rate. unless youre getting 0% financing through the dealer, you will likely get a lower rate from your bank.

Thats what ive heard, but its actually one of the main reasons ive been excited to buy a car. I wana try my shot at it and really see how much i can save by talking down a salesman and saving as much as i can. I wana do my research and try to get some offers out of it.

The "kids" car me and my sister share is a ford taurus and my dad was able to get free oil changes for about 4 or 5 years and i think one of the scheduled maintenance's covered, instead of knocking off say $500

I feel like i would try to weave in stuff like that because it saves you money by not having to pay for maintenance and more convincing to them because they dont lose as much.

who knows but its something i feel like i may be good at. :D (at least in my head)

  7. I was able to get a used 2001 Prius, from the Toyota dealer for under $8000. I'm not a big fan of the body style, but it kills on gas mileage. Right now I'm getting about 44mpg. I'm sure if you looked around enough you could find a similar deal. Highly recommended.

Yea ive been checking mostly 05's and have found a few that are decent deals. And im with you not the biggest fan of the body but love the gas mileage and the inside is comfortable.

  8. you should have no problem finding a good used car in the paper/craigslist for 5-6 grand.

also when going to look at the cars take someone who is pretty knowledgeable on the subject with ya.

One thing I'm worried about with craigslist though is getting a car and it having problems a month or two down the road.

Should i have my local autoshop look it over for me and see if they can spot out any issues? I'm not sure i trust people enough to just give them money right away.

  9. So it’s time for me to be purchasing my own car! And I’m coming here looking for some tips, advice, or problems you had when purchasing your first car. I will be student teaching a 3rd grade class this spring and will need a way to get to school.

    1. Budgeting… I have about $8,000 saved up from the past 5 years of summer work, and have a for sure summer job where ill be making at least $7,000. Although idk how much you guys know about Illinois education but its in the shit hole, so I have NO idea if I’ll be able to get a job. Being a male I have a better chance than most bust most schools have little to no jobs even available…. So in turn I'm not sure on how much I want to spend on a new car. I plan on living at home for a year so I can save money and hopefully pay off most of my car. What would be a good payment plan… how many months.. etc.

    2. When looking ive been looking into used Honda Civics priced about $12,000 - $14,000. I want a cheaper car and have heard great things from Civics (cheap, last a long time, decent gas mileage). Think this would be a good car, or other recommendations?

    3. I was also looking at used Toyota Prius’s priced around 1$8,000 – $20,000. I’ve always loved this car but without knowing if I’ll be able to get a full time job in the fall I'm not sure I want to be risking putting this much down a car.

    4. Have you guys had any issues with certified pre owned vs used

    5. Lastly dealers vs individual buyers pros/cons?

Hopefully you guys can give me some tips and move me in the right direction

  10. hey

im being woody from toy story for christmas

i was wondering if anyone has any yellow flannel shirts layin around they wouldnt mind sending me (of course for a few bucks ;D)

it doesnt have to be exact at all, pretty much if its yellow

and if anyone has a cow print vest that would be awesome but i doubt anyone does unless they used it for this costume haha

anything would help! let me know

  11. yea i dont blame you, as much as i like to be trusting of people ive learned that it hardly ever works in your favor (not that you should get anything out of it)

ive found probably 5 or 6 phones since ive been in college, i always call someone to return it 1 person tried to fight me for stealing it, 3 give no appreciation and just walk away. you would think that people would be more gracious but people just really care about themselves

  12. Is there a way to see if your hard drive may be on the verge of crashing/ getting old?

hopefully that makes sense and i dont sound like an idiot.

Yup, there are programs out there that will put the drive through some tests and let you know if there are any problems.

do you know the names of any of these programs, and are they free or $$$?

and i know to listen for a noise, although whenever i talk to people its usually totally random

  13. Hey, im no computer genius and ive got a question

ive had my laptop for almost 5 years its a toshiba a105 (i think) satellite. I got it for my freshman year of college.

Lately 2 of my friends hard drives have crashed, so im gettin a lil worried. i back up my documents/music on an external hard drive ever month or so, but i work on a lot of homework and scared i will lose it soon.

    story over

Is there a way to see if your hard drive may be on the verge of crashing/ getting old?

hopefully that makes sense and i dont sound like an idiot.
