  1. WHY DO YOU PRESS STUFF WITHOUT GETTING PERMISSION FROM THE BAND? YOU SHOULD FIRST CONTACT THE BAND AND IF THAT DOESN'T WORK IT'S OVER. DON'T GO TO THE LABEL ONLY. IF YOU FOLLOWED THIS YOU WOULDN'T LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT EVERY TIME YOU PRESS A RECORD.

I don't think he cares. Whatever makes him look like a cool record label Exec. He's a dick to everyone except the Universal cock he strokes in order to put out shitty re-issues.

  2. "Based out of Merrick, New York (516 represent), we provide our bands with marketing and promotion, tour booking, design and creative needs, PR, merchandise support, web presence, and sound recommendations aimed to catapult them to the next level. We have a great deal of experience growing with bands from small nobodies to nationally recognized acts, and have spent an enormous amount of time learning, witnessing, and feeling the pains of striving artists. We’re here to help.

We hope to work with artists who are both creative and innovative in their own right. We believe there is a lot more music out there than the mainstream likes to acknowledge and it is our goal to let the lesser known bands have a chance to succeed."

Says the people that bring you mainstream major releases cut digitally at Pirates Press. And pay huge licencing fees to do it, helping the major affiliated, and major labels, while doing essentially nothing for the actual band.

I'm sure 311 is stoked to have the opportunity to be catapulted to the next level, and have PR and tour booking done by Enjoy The Ride.

  5. I only send orders once a week, but besides the point I guess. I wish I could get to the post office every other day or so.

If the person is nice and pretty cool about it, I'll send em another one. If they're an asshole, I just tell em to fuck themselves, if I have proof that I sent the record. Not worth having assholes buying your records anyway.

I've never had a paypal claim against me, only one time when some dumbfuck label said I messed up on their printing, and I won that.

But yeah, being a nice person goes a long way.

  7. Also, brand new Total Chaos next year. Jackets are being printed now :)

Probably will see a release around March.

A ton of other things are in the works, or at the plant for release next year as well. A bunch of stuff that will suprise a lot of people.

is Ronald McMurder still in Total Chaos?

Also, Total Chaos is still a band?

No he isn't in Total Chaos anymore.

Yeah, they still tour contantly, pretty much year round, albeit almost exclusively overseas except for festivals and such. They are touring the U.S this summer though.

  9. oh yeah, my bust. did you know about "paul and the strings"??? woof, that was brutally bad.

Actually I love Paul and The Strings, I know it certainly isn't everyones cup of tea, especially considering people who are a fan of Pauls stuff, are usually into hardcore and street punk, kind of weird that he plays acoustic pub music. I just happen to like that type of music though, I'm a big Hope Sandoval, Bjork, Tori fan as well as a punk rock fan, so the Strings stuff appeals to me. I actually think a lot of it is brilliant.

But yeah, I certainly can see why most fans of the genre aren't too into it :)

  11. Awesome news. Congrats Jailhouse!

Thank you, pretty stoked! They will be on tour nationally with The Scarred, and another sorta, kinda secret band this spring/summer. I think they are pretty much planning on touring most of the year after the new full length in Spring.

  13. http://dyingscene.com/news/the-pinkerton-thugs-sign-to-jailhouse-records-recording-new-album/

Hopefully everyone knows who these guys are. One of mine, and many others favorite bands! Legendary New England area punk rock. Of course Paul Russo was also a founding member of The Unseen, (among others) and did vocals until 2003, when he left after the Explode album to focus on his own projects.

    Great fucking band

I think he left to get back to teaching. Interesting guy. You read his book? I highly recommend it. I can't believe the unseen let that shitty left alone douche bag fill in for him.

Your thinking of Tripp Underwood. Paul Russo was the vocalist from 93-03. Tripp was the bass player for Unseen.

  15. So if I'm self distributing these records, i don't need a tax ID and everything is perfectly legal?

Trust me, I've done a ton of reading, and haven't stopped. I'd love to read more if you have any recommendations, but this is the one aspect that confuses me. Thats why I asked on a message board. There really isn't anywhere else to ask such a question.

You need a business licence regardless. It's only something like 50 bucks a year for a sole proprietor.

  16. You need to be legal. Get a few books and study them.

No offense, but if your asking a really simple question like this on a message board, you should probably not start a label. Learn about business, and more particularly the indie record business, and then think about a label. You probably won't make any money, you won't really need that tax id, because no distributor is going to pick you up until you have at least 10 or so good selling records and the financial means to put a couple grand of promo behind each release.

But yeah, learn about all that goes into owning your own business first, and then prepare to be dirt poor broke for a long while, and distributing your records yourself at a loss, maybe a distributor would pick you up in a few years, after you've shown a few thousand sales per release.

Unless you have a fairly unhealthy love of music, starting a label is a very very very poor financial decision.

  17. No one should pay over 5 bucks for a new release 7". 7's have always been used as a promotional single for a band, upcoming full length etc. To pay over 5 bucks for a 2-3 songs is stupid, and greed on the labels part. If a label can only press 1-200 7's, they probably shouldn't be pressing it at all.

7's have never been a money maker, or a profitable product, people that try to make bank on 7's suck.

Also, people overseas that think we have it good because they have to pay 20 bucks for an LP, keep in mind that our currency is in the shitter, 1 euro is almost double what 1 U.S dollar is worth.

I have hemmorhoids and my ass itches right now as well.
