  1. Hey kids,

For the blog side of VC, I want to do something cool, mainly create a top albums of the year list as chosen by you.

Here's how it will be done, for the next week post your submissions for your top 5 favorite records of this year into this thread. Any genre is permitted - so yes, Taylor Swift could come out on top.

I'll comb through this thread next Tuesday, pick out the titles that repeat the most, and create a poll to decide on the final choices.

Additionally, I'll be asking you guys to contribute blurbs on why these records are the best this year. More on this later.

Only one rule - the records MUST have been released this year.

So with that sad... let's go...

  2. In the worst feat of time travel, ever, Beck has revealed that he's finishing up an album he started recording in 2008.

Beck made the revelation to Australia's Triple J Radio this week, also confirming that the album will be released in a "standard format" and not sheet music.

“I started a record, largely recorded in 2008," he explained. "So I’m trying to carve out some time from all the production work I’m doing to finish those songs before they become records from a lost era. It’s going on a half decade at this point.”

2008 was a busy year for Beck. He collaborated with Danger Mouse on Modern Guilt, and provided material for the miserable Scott Pilgrim vs The World movie. Here's hoping this new material sounds more like the former.

And yes, Beck's collection of sheet music, dubbed Beck Hansen’s Song Reader, still drops on December 7. And despite recording the sheet music as demos, he doubts he'll ever release them.

    That's our Beck.

  3. Singer Finoa Apple has postponed the South American leg of her tour... because her dog has fallen ill.

    That's right, folks. We've officially hit rock-bottom.

In a hand-written letter - that eerily resembles the chicken-scratch of John Doe in the 1995 film Se7en - posted to her official Facebook, Apple outlined the frighteningly close relationship with her Pitbull named Janet. “If I go away again" the singer stressed, "I’m afraid she’ll die and I won’t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out.”

Other choice cuts from her letter include: “She’s my best friend and my mother and my daughter, my benefactor, and she’s the one who taught me what love is,” and “Janet has been the most consistent relationship of my adult life, and that is just a fact.”

So, sorry South America. Miss Apple is clearly not the kind of gal that “puts her career ahead of love and friendship.”

We reached out to Janet the Pitbull for a statement, she emailed this back: "Kill me."

  4. Fans of rap and high-art can finally rejoice: R. Kelly plans to bring his infamous "hip-hopera" Trapped in the Closet to Broadway in the near future.

Speaking at a Q&A session last night in New York, Kelly revelled in the success of the series, "I don't have a job, so I sit in the studio all the time and think of stupid stuff to do. And this is just something stupid I've done that's been successful. I'm having a lot of fun with it."

Unbeknownst to me, Kelly has kept the series alive since the initial twelve chapters debuted in 2005. An additional 10 episodes where filmed in 2007, with more premiering this month on the Independent Film Channel.

On a frightening note, the rapper indicated that he has a mind-boggling 85 chapters ready to go, including a section that takes place on a Maury Povich-esq talk show. "Trapped in the Closet is pretty much forever. I've got a leash on this thing now", warned Kelly to the press in attendance. "I'm not going to leave you guys hanging five years again for the next chapter."

No other information was given about the Broadway show, making the lede of this story slightly pointless. But hey, I just copy what the big boys do.

Trapped in the Closet 's continuing adventures are now airing on IFC.

  5. British-rockers Coldplay aren't afraid to own their mistakes - especially the confusing title of their last effort, Mylo Xyloto.

Frontman Chris Martin recently told an Australian radio station that their next album will have a name that is "much easier to pronounce." When pressed about what it could be, he simply answered with "I can't tell you that."

Coldplay, however, are no strangers to stupid album names. In 2004 they released X&Y, followed by 2007's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. If anything, Xyloto seemed like natural progression on a shitty trend.

Here's hoping the best for Coldplay in 2013.

  6. We're still trying to get delisted from Google's malware warning service thingie.

This one is out of my hands now, our admin guy is on it. We're also paying for some service to monitor our server as well for stuff like this in the past. It's supposed to resolve these warnings, can't tell you of a time frame.

I think we're nearing the end of this bullshit, thankfully.

And next week I'll begin a thread for new mods. Jhul will now have friends to play with.

(edit: and yes, I will fix the quoting issue. what an odd thing to break)
