Why is my turntable playing too fast?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've got a Pioneer PL-201Z. I've had it since 1985. An oldie, but a goodie. I was playing an LP the other day, and as the last track was fading the LP sped up. It's never done this before. I can't get it to play 33 now. It's somewhere between 33 and 45. The belt looks ok. I did change the belt a few years ago. I remember it did slip off the rim of the platter a few months ago, so it may have stretched slightly. I put it back, and it's been fine since. I've sprayed fluid cleaner on the spindle and connections, but to no avail. Also the spindle won't rotate the platter now unless I give either one a slight nudge. I thought it might be the belt that needs changing, but a friend said this would slow the platter down, rather than speeding it up, but as the spindle isn't rotating properly it may be another problem. Can anyone help? Many thanks, Rich.
