Gumbo72203 Posted December 1, 2020 Share Posted December 1, 2020 Hey friends. In the midst of building my first Hi-Fi setup, and I'm stuck on one point - MC or MM carts. I listen to post-rock and post-metal almost exclusively on vinyl, so I need something that can handle distortion and big mixes. I've been researching a lot, and have come down to 2 choices: Rega Exact 2 (MM) and the Hana (EL). I love the sound of both, but as is to be expected, there are no Youtube rips of either of these carts playing Caspian or Mogwai. The Hana has *a lot* more detail in the high end, but I worry that the tremolo-picked guitar leads of post-rock will become too much. When comparing the rips, I notice that my ears tend to fatigue a little bit through my AKG earbuds when listening to MC carts. The detail is unreal, but it's almost too much - it's a bit straining on my ears. The Exact 2 is warmer and does not give me any strain. Any thoughts? This will be paired with a Rega Planar 6 TT.
