dante3000
So, I got about $1,000 that I'm looking to put into a whole new system (turntable, amp, speakers). It's not a ton but I'm looking for something fairly nice. Anyone got any suggestions, links are also much appreciated. And yes, I did post something like this in the turntable thread but it took a while to pull all the cash and I'd like to get a wider range of feed back. Thanks. 706union
as far as turntables are concerned I´d really recommend a REGA...great quality...they have different models ranging from starter tables to unpayable ones...
melikecheese
I always liked how old real wood cabinet speakers sounded. As the wood ages the sound just sounds more natural then some plastic speakers.. that's my 2 cents, enjoy your shopping!
cosmonaut
If $1,000 is your total budget, I'd get used stuff (especially for amps and speakers). Maybe put $400 towards a new Rega P1 or Pro-ject Debut. Then: $300 for an integrated amp, like a NAD http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/clt.pl?intatran&1223981822, or one of the old Marantz receivers that a lot of people use. For speakers, something like a used set of Epos ELS3s or some B&W 601s could be had for $300.
sgoodcore
I hear Rega makes some nice "budget speakers" brand new for around $300 or so.
willbratt
If your local hi-fi store carries second hand gear, I recommend checking that out. I spent a lot more on my stereo than $1000, but every component was a great deal. I was looking at buying an Audio Note TT-1 for abou $1500, and the dude hooked me up with a used Logic DM 101 table for $550. I was going to buy a Rotel integrated amp for $900, but the dude at the store set me up with a far superior Creek 5350 SE for $950, and I got some great used B and W tower speakers for $300!
