melikecheese
When to replace your needle will depend on a few things. mainly the type of needle. Diamond needles will last a lot longer then any other needle. Also depends on how you have your player set up. If you let the arms rear counter weight (if your player has counterweights) sit forward more (to help with skips or bouncy floors) then your needle is going to be pushing into the groove harder and will wear faster. I just replaced my needle for the first time since I got my current player. Its been 7 years and I do not think the last owner replaced it at all, it was looking very short. I got a new one for 28 dollars at the local shop and I can hear a noticeable increase in the sound quality. So if it has been a few years and you don't mind spending the money on it, do it. rafter242
A new needle will normally come with a replacement chart depending on hours of usage. I was SOOO anal years ago that I kept a spreadsheet of each side of an LP that I played. Yes, artist and title. And the darn needle broke right before I was going to replace it anyways! steventangent
Some cities have a needle exchange program and encourage you to do it all the time.
