RECORDS NEWS 02/10 - GET THE MOST “TOGETHER” PRE-ORDERS - PRAISE “GROWING.CHANGING.HEALING” PRE-ORDERS - DAMAGES JOIN THE REACT! CREW AND PRE-ORDERS - COMMON CAUSE JOIN THE REACT! CREW - MINDSET “TIME & PRESSURE” UPDATE - NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHING SOON - REACT! SHOWCASE LINE-UP/POSTER/TRAVEL INFO GET THE MOST “TOGETHER” PRE-ORDERS 2009 was a great year for Get The Most with a European tour, an insane set at Sound & Fury, and the recording of their first full length “Together”. From their demo to their two EPs, this band has inspired others to grow and to strive for more, and their full length is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated hardcore records of this year. Now the wait is over, and I’m excited to announce that pre-orders for the Get The Most “Together” LP start on Monday February 22nd. This 10-song LP delivers the same power and energy that GTM is know for, with socially conscious and motivating lyrics that show that hardcore is more than music. Two new songs MATTER OF CHOICE and TRUE POTENTIAL are have been posted to our myspace page so check them out!! The pressing is limited to 200 on CLEAR, 400 on BLUE, and 900 on BLACK and each copy will include a digital download and all the other good stuff you can expect from us. We’ll also have a few new merch designs and package deals that will include our two other new releases so make sure to stay on point for Monday February 22nd. Until then make sure to check out their new songs and also stop by their myspace page and show support for this incredible band: http://www.myspace.com/getthemosthc PRAISE “GROWING.CHANGING.HEALING” PRE-ORDERS Praise was started by Andy Norton as a way of sharing his ideas, facing his struggles, and coping with the loss of a loved one. As the songs developed it was clear that something truly special was coming together, and what was initially intended as a project became a full band with the addition of Mike, Chris, Colby, and Dan who all helped bring the songs to life. In January 2010 the band entered the studio and recorded the band’s début EP “Growing, Changing, Healing” and I’m honored to announce that pre-orders will begin on Monday February 22nd. Musically this incredible 4 song EP draws influence from Battery, Turning Point, Civ, Gorilla Biscuits, and 7 Seconds, yet maintains a character all of it’s own. Lyrically Andy focuses on reflection and personal growth, as well as encouraging people to recognize their own ability to create change in our world. Art duties for this EP were handled by Kevin Seconds and the new song HEALING has been posted to the REACT! myspace so stop by and take a listen. The pressing is limited to 200 on ORANGE, 300 on GREEN, and 400 on BLACK and each copy will include a digital download and all the other good stuff you can expect from us. We’ll also have a few new merch designs and package deals that will include our two other new releases so make sure to stay on point for Monday February 22nd. Until then make sure to check out their new song and also stop by their blog: http://searchforthesun.blogspot.com/ DAMAGES JOIN THE REACT! CREW AND PRE-ORDERS Damages was started by Andrew, Hieg, Carl, and Andy (later replaced by Motor) who wanted to start a band that captured the sound and spirit of ‘90s post-hardcore, drawing from the legacy of Dischord, Ebullition and Touch & Go/Am-Rep. Drawing influence from bands like Shotmaker, Policy of 3 and Four Hundred Years, the initial line-up released their début EP “Scars” on Clue #2 records and set out to remind people that great music played with heart, creativity, and conviction always has a place in the Hardcore community. I’ve known these guys for years having loved their previous and current bands (Blue Monday, Keep It Clear, All Through a Life, Deadsure) and having both Andy and Motor had done time filling in for Champion. To me Damages is the perfect balance of powerful song-writing, gripping lyrics, and an intense live show so I’m happy to announce that REACT! will be releasing their new EP “Unrequited” this spring, and the new track POST DATE is now up on our myspace so make sure to check it out! Pre-orders will start on Monday February 22nd along with the GTM and Praise records, and the pressing is limited to 200 on GREY, 300 on CLEAR, and 400 on BLACK and each copy will include a digital download and all the other good stuff you can expect from us. We’ll also have a few new merch designs and package deals that will include our two other new releases so make sure to remain emotive for Monday February 22nd. Until then make sure to check out their new song and also stop by their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/damagestothearchive COMMON CAUSE JOINS THE REACT! CREW Common Cause started in late 2005 when long time friends Daniel and Jon set out with the goal of creating a 80’s styled hardcore band that drew influences from Youth of Today, Straight Ahead, and The Abused, while reflecting the goals and ideals of people who believe in change. After recruiting Hans, P.O. (later replaced by Espen), and Truls to round out the line-up, band recorded their 5-song demo in March of 2006, and later that year Common Cause returned with their 7” EP “Statement Of Purpose” which was released on Powered Records. In the following years CC hit the road with bands like The First Step, Justice and ON, and in 2008 released their full-length “The Power to Change” also on Powered records. I had met Daniel through his former band Damage Control, so when I heard that he had a new project I immediately checked it out and have been blown away by every release they’ve done. Their live shows are unbelievably powerful and when you see Common Cause you know you’re seeing a true representation of HARDCORE. So, I’m psyched to announce that in the spring of 2010 REACT! will be releasing the “Statement of Purpose” LP which combines their demo and EP in a full-length format, remastered, and pressed at 45 rpm. Pre-orders will start in March along with the Betrayed EP so until then check them out at their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/commoncauseoc MINDSET “TIME & PRESSURE” UPDATE Test presses have been approved for Mindset’s incredible new EP “Time & Pressure” and we plan on shipping orders starting the 2nd week of March. Oakland is actually closer to Berkeley, where the REACT! Showcase is being held, but we would suggest you base your decision on cost. Depending on where you are flying to/from, it may be cheaper to go to one or the other. Ground Transportation San Francisco/The Bay Area has just about the best public transportation system in the U.S. Rental cars are really not a necessity, but if you just need to have that sense of freedom that comes with a vehicle, by all means, rent one, but do try to carpool. It cuts down on costs and emissions. If you want to check out public transportation options and route maps, these are the two main options: BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) – http://www.bart.gov/ AC Transit (Rapid Buses) - http://www2.actransit.org/main.wu Lodging Berkeley is sort of strange for lodging. There must be some wicked zoning requirements because major hotel chains are all but forbidden from establishing themselves within city limits. With that said, we have partnered with five area hotels/motels for the Showcase and negotiated lower rates for all of you traveling from afar. Simply call the hotel directly via the phone number below, mention the “REACT SHOWCASE” and you should get the room rate that is posted. These negotiated rates are in limited quantities, so make your reservations now! The rates are available on a first come, first served basis, and when they’re gone, they’re gone, so get on it. I’ve tried to list out most of the pertinent details to help you make your decision, but if you need any additional help, you can email [email protected]. They are in order of recommendation. The Doubletree Hotel is the most “corporate” of the bunch, and if you are in a band traveling with merch/instruments or plan on walking back from Lanesplitters at 2am, this is the hotel for you. On the other hand, if you are all about the bottom line, you can stay at the Golden Bear Inn for $75 a night. Other than the Doubletree, most of the hotels in Berkeley are considered “Inns” and they may only have 40 rooms in the entire property, so again, MAKE YOUR RESERVATION EARLY. Doubletree Hotel 510.548.7920 Star rating: ***1/2 Trip Advisor rating: 3 Fest rating: A+ REACT! negotiated rates, single/double: $99/$99 Total number of rooms: 378 Pros: nice hotel, close to Gilman Cons: wireless internet $9.95 a day (but free in the lobby) La Quinta Inn 510.849.1121 Star rating: ** Trip Advisor rating: 3 Fest rating: A REACT! negotiated rates, single/double: $69/$79 Total number of rooms: 108 Pros: close to Gilman, free breakfast, free wireless internet Roadway Inn 510.848.3840 Star rating: ** Trip Advisor rating: 4.5 Fest rating: A- REACT! negotiated rates, single/double: $84.95/$94.95 Total number of rooms: 41 Pros: free breakfast, free wireless internet Cons: Not super close to Gilman Golden Bear Inn 510.525.6770 Star rating: ** Trip Advisor rating: 2 Fest rating: B+ REACT! negotiated rates, single/double: $65/$75 Total number of rooms: 40 Pros: the cheapest option, closest to Gilman Cons: doesn’t have the best reviews Holiday Inn Express 510.548.1700 Star rating: ** Trip Advisor rating: 3 Fest rating: B REACT! negotiated rates, single/double: $109/$109 Total number of rooms: 69 Pros: close to Gilman Cons: priciest option The following hotels aren’t really recommended by the showcase organizers, but they are an option if the ones above all book up, although that is unlikely. We don’t have negotiated rates with them, and they are the three farthest from Gilman, but I’m guessing you’re an adult and you can make your own decisions. Berkeley Travelodge 510.843.4262 Berkeley Vista Inn 510.841.4242 Super 8 Berkeley 510.841.3844 Food Berkeley is VERY vegan/veggie-friendly. Most of these restaurants, however, are located closer to the UC-Berkeley campus and further away from Gilman. Depending on your definition of “walking distance,” many of these restaurants will be within a 1 to 2 mile radius of the venue. A map with options and suggestions will be posted closer to the showcase date. Thanks for taking the time to check this out, and we'll see you at the showcase! http://www.myspace.com/itstimetoreact http://www.itstimetoreact.com
