vinyljunkie
Houston based southern fried metal band. Members of tons of other bands (as all houston bands seem to be very incestual). Mastodon, or The Sword styled stoner metal, but that comparison is just too easy and simple. These guys definitely have a retro 70s style metal sound like Blue Cheer, with lots of sweet heavy riffs and great solos. Super heavy metal without falling into the death metal / metalcore side of things but still much heavier than your average stoner rock. check out their facebook and listen to some tunes. http://www.facebook.com/VenomousMaximus here is a review from sodashop "“Houston’s Venomous Maximus gurgles with sounds of proto-metal gods Pentagram and Blue Cheer as well as new-school leaders like High on Fire. The headspace of this band falls somewhere between a Alejandro Jodorwsky film and a New Orleans voodoo den. Hail Satan and pass the chicken feet.” - Craig Hlavaty – Houston Press Mr. Hlavaty sums it up real nicely there. The Mission is the 2nd release from Houston’s own Venomous Maximus on Cutthroat Records. Listening to The Mission, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. At forst I thought maybe I was listening to a tribute band for The Sword. As I listened further though, I realized I kinda like these guys sound a bit better. The Mission is more Gods of the Earth than Warp Riders. The Sword references aside, this is one heavy mother F’n beast. In the 26 minutes it takes to go from “The Mission” to “The Living Dead” you’re in for a head bashing, body thrashing time. You’ll walk out of the listening session looking for a neck brace and aspirin. I can only imagine how they sound live and the amount of body stretchers required to be on hand by the venue due to the band kicking everyone’s ass. No wimps allowed. Give “The Living Dead” a listen and see for yourself." You can buy their first LP, and their 7" at http://www.vinyljunkiedistro.com/mailorder/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20_1&products_id=14171 or http://www.vinyljunkiedistro.com/mailorder/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20_5&products_id=20377 both are limited, and almost sold out actually (though they will probably be repressed at some point when they do).
