  1. Mellon Collie is under $30 PPD right now in the "used" section on amazon, fulfillment by amazon.   Worth a chance?  I picked up a similar version a few weeks ago and the box set came sealed with some light wear.  Don't ask about zero, still sealed.  Of course, kidamnesiac should NOT buy this box set as he will never be happy with the pressing at any price.  Maybe the manufacturer repackaged all the returns he sent back for the rest of us.   Obviously this seller is not a record store and just pushing refurbished product.  18 in stock at 10am.

  2. Are either of these guys still relevant?   I do agree with Dershowitz view on conduct.  Personally, I maintain the case was used by democrats to drum up racial tension and black turnout leading to the 2012 elections.  Purely political as everything is with holder-obama and the new, activist media.    If I remember correctly the Duke lacrosse prosecutor lost his license to practice law a few years ago with similar actions.

MIKE HUCKABEE: You have said that you thought the prosecutor ought to be disbarred, that's a pretty serious type of violation to get a person disbarred. It is that serious to you?

ALAN DERSHOWITZ: Right, it is. She submitted an affidavit that was, if not perjurious, completely misleading. She violated all kinds of rules of the profession, and her conduct bordered on criminal conduct. She, by the way, has a horrible reputation in Florida. She's known for overcharging, she's known for being highly political. And in this case, of course she overcharged. Halfway through the trial she realized she wasn't going to get a second degree murder verdict, so she asked for a compromised verdict, for manslaughter. And then, she went even further and said that she was going to charge him with child abuse and felony murder. That was such a stretch that it goes beyond anything professionally responsible. She was among the most irresponsible prosecutors I've seen in 50 years of litigating cases, and believe me, I've seen good prosecutors, bad prosecutors, but rarely have I seen one as bad as this prosecutor, [Angela] Cory. (Huckabee, July 14, 2013)

  3. @RobertWargas: So a Hispanic shoots a black and is acquitted by women, but it's still white men's fault.

Not much of a case with the way the laws are written. But the media-obama-holder cabal needed to increase racial tension to boost black turnout in 2012. Ah the era of hopey-changey stuff. Now the DOJ can go after all the people threatening an innocent man or you can understand you were rolled by the press and used again by the most corrupt administration ever.

Turns out one of them was armed and someone else ended up dead. Ensue media firestorm. This was a case of manslaughter from the beginning, but overzealous prosecutors went for broke and lost with the attention of everyone. Lots of losses all around, including sanity, justice, and a young teen of who may have been troubled. In the end, America proves with lots of attention we can't get anything right.

  5. Pretty sure Einstein stated the definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."  Anybody else knocking down the door to do business with this guy?

Second Amazon.ca copy still had tracking issues. Bit the bullet and ordered from Amazon.de. It's down to about $73 ppd.

People wondering why all the fuss? I'm sorry but a deluxe vinyl reissue touted as the "definitive version" has no business having any problems that affect a large number of people who purchase the pressing. At all. No matter how little of the music the problem affects, no matter if you think the song that it affects sucks, and no matter how little anyone paid for it. Period.

  6. Agreed.  Most important to understand.   Individual sellers are not responsible for manufacturing errors.   Tightly sealed records also produce slightly warped records, especially older gatefolds, that have nothing to do with the seller and it is bogus to hold them responsible.   If the record came directly from the manufacturer or label then you can bitch at them about not having a perfect plastic record to flip.    Sellers are simply pushing product and they should insist on no return or refund for manufacturing problems.   The red vinyl Melvins Nude with Boots LP is known to be warped from the packaging.

Give the seller his money and PLAY the damn record.

. Since the label looks kind of beat up too though I'm going to say you just got a crappily manufactured record. This isn't the seller's fault and I don't really think it's fair to hold them responsible. You could try getting in touch with Epitaph about sending a replacement.

  7. The fact you write studies that tell buyers that the only people who will have problems with the blades are "psychosomatic" seems kinda harsh and one-sided. The old "you're crazy" defense.  On the only solar-wind project I was involved with the turbine designer was the most concerned about sun flicker from the rotating blades.  I think the whole industry is a scam and waste of money.   He could always write a study, or get one written, to say there would never be an impact on any project.   Then all about the subsidy.

In my neck of the woods, one big-ass wind mill stands idle after the gear shaft busted and the maintenance company ran to Canada.  So although no electricity is being produced no one cares because the feds keep sending the checks to pay the financing and the politicians have moved on to bigger "green" projects government subsidies to finance.

More importantly to the topic.  Do you live near a wind turbine?  Would you after your experience writing impact studies?

Funny enough I work for a company that does a lot of Environmental Assessment Impact studies for wind farms.  I'm actually working on two right now.

The companies that construct the wind farms spend millions and millions of dollars to make sure the turbines do not effect the natural environment around them (that's where I come in ... I get paid to do such studies or at least have a hand in them).  They also have to make sure they will not effect any human life around them.  Like it was mentioned earlier in the thread any health problems are psychosomatic.  If the general public knew the strict Ministry guidelines companies have to meet they would largely shut up about these "health" problems.  Case in point one wind farm I worked on only got approved earlier this year and we've been working on it for three years.

  8. In the Providence-Southern Mass area on RSD?   A new (6 months old) record store is located in Yester-day's News consignment shop at 5 Forbes Street in East Providence, RI.   Y2K Records and More is not an official RSD participant but we will match our New stock with any established record store in the area.   I take care of the new, color and limited records and we have hundreds of used 80', 70' and Classic Rock albums for 2-3 bucks each.  Only 10 minutes from Providence you should put us on your visit list.   10% off for mentioning VC.   I will be at the store with more hard to find LP's and bins of new 7's similar to the list above and welcome any want lists.

Driving from Newbury Comics (providence place mall) to In Your Ear (warren)?   We are right on the way.

  10. You will not be able to find some great GBV on vinyl, like Bee Thousand and Kid Marine, but Under the Bushes and Alien Lanes have been reissued and are about $20 each.  My favorite side project is by far Boston Spaceships with three releases including the delicious "Planets are Blasted", currently on amazon for under $13 with Autorip.

Sign up at Rockathon Records and RobertPollard.com to keep up to date on the never ending releases.

On the "for sale" front, I not only have the 3 LP's above new, sealed and available but have about 40 other Pollard, GBV, Boston Spaceships, etc. sealed LP's sitting in a bin waiting for the right buyer.  My first purge about 5 years ago got rid of the very rare LP releases.   Never got an original Propeller but kept the Briefcase 2 Test Press in a safe place.   Good luck.  contact [email protected]

Lastly.  Saw a great GBV show at Middle East Downstairs in 2004 (?) with Detroit's Slumber Party opening.  Funniest memory is of my friend, who had never heard of the band or seen Pollard's on stage activity, say that Robert would probably be a good punter in the NFL.   We both laughed when I told him RP was a pretty good pitcher in school.

  11. Recently purchased a Tascam RW900SL for playing and recordings cd's.  But more importantly finally got a stand for my equipment.  Chose a $35 Besta cabinet from Ikea and added a $5 glass shelf.   Because of the connections I left the back panel off and purchase a set of corner brackets from True Value.  Rock solid and measures 26 x 15 x 16.

  12. Pretty sure the current Political Class made unlocking a cell phone a crime punishable with 5 years and 500K.   Better check some sources before you become a victim.   With no media outlet to trust you are on your own.   Ah, more hopenchange.   But the worst political class in history will somehow find a way to "save" you from yourself and the insane laws they are passing.   All this went down at the end of January.

    Some basic info:

"Violations of the DMCA [unlocking your phone] may be punished with a civil suit or, if the violation was done for commercial gain, it may be prosecuted as a criminal act," Brad Shear, a Washington, D.C.-area attorney and blogger who is an expert on social media and technology law, told ABC News. "A carrier may sue for actual damages or for statutory damages."

The worst-case scenario for an individual or civil offense could be as much as a $2,500 fine. As for those planning to profit off of the act or a criminal offense -- such as a cellphone reseller -- the fine could be as high as $500,000 and include prison time.

  13. Forget about the weather and come on out to the Southern New England Rock 'n' Roll Collectors Convention on Sunday.  Only 10 minutes from Providence.  I will be a dealer with lots of new stuff for sale and willing to deal.   Only $2 admission.  10am - 3pm tomorrow.   After Sunday, anyone in the area can visit my record store at the back of Yester-days News at 5 Forbes Street in East Providence, RI.   Any reasonable requests can be sent to [email protected] and I will have some rarities including Japandroids Celebration RED, Blunderbuss Inverted, Vault 14, Nirvana 4x PD, Brand New YFW + lots more limited, OOP and colored vinyl.

DiParma Italian Table at the Clarion Inn in Seekonk, MA, right off Exit 1 just over the Mass. border off Rte. 195, just minutes outside of Providence. Doors open at 10 AM; we close at 3 PM. Don't forget to bring your
want list! Check out the brunch at the restaurant, and check out the Southern New England Rock 'n' Roll Collectors Convention t-shirts we have with Dr. Oldie's portrait on the front!

  14. On a MMF 5.1, I started with the original felt mat, tried the Music Hall cork mat and finally solved my problems by purchasing the acrylic platter.   The MH cork mat is very thin and really did not solve the static problem for me and just left me frustrated.  Even considered double-stick tape under the $50 cork mat but ultimately just purchased the platter.  Never looked back.
