  1. Price up what the parts will cost but also check the arm because if the bearings are worn and you discover anything else wrong then the costs to put it right start creeping toward one that was good in the first place. Make sure you check the speed stability and behaviour when you adjust the pitch

That said they do hold their value well so any SL1200 for $150 is a good start and you have to be lucky to find one being offered at that price regardless of condition.

  2. The Musical Fidelity A1 is one of the best sounding amps under $1k. Seriously. It's old though, so something newer might be a safer bet.

Agreed this is a stunning sounding amp for the money but they do run hot so it wants to have been looked after

You're welcome :) And don't get me wrong, the 326BEE is a great little amp, but you can get much better for less, so it's definitely worth weighing all the options.

If you can get nothing else then as Slinch says there is nothing wrong with it but there is better out there for the money, I get that if you have to have something shipped an amp that is local and you can hear before handing over the cash is always a bit safer.

  3. Has anyone had any international shipping notice? I've yet to hear anything about either of my orders.

I've been pretty laid back about this feeling that what arrives will be fine and it will get here when it does.

For my first 2 orders BKR_Mark PM'd me about them without me even asking him to and told me they were complete apart from an LP I had tried to add over the phone, the site also says my first order is dispatched and I've had an email notification for that one.

From what I can see the response to the sale has been massive so check on the website or drop them a line.

  4. Apart from shedloads from the Oldies.com sale recently I've bought.

  5. If it's ok on 45 and it only has one speed control pot then the pot is ok and the problem is in the section of the power supply that deals with 33rpm. All electronics of this vintage has electrolytic capacitors that dry out with age so I expect that is where the problem is.

If you are ok with electronics fault finding or know someone who is then you will be fine otherwise you might want to move it on and replace it.

  6. In my opinion, no. The RP3 is an absolute winner. That is if you're buying new.

If you go used, there are some better options, BUT there's always risk, and it really helps if you are handy with audio equipment, because you're usually on your own. When you buy new, the store will do pretty much everything for you, so it's just plug and play.
