  1. Speaking of "first" releases from RSD, here are my grand predictions for the next six months or so:

Space Project: deluxe 12” vinyl with 7” for the extra songs that came in the box set on RSD. Will come in at a little less than $30.

Childish Gambino: standard 2 LP with gatefold. Will come in at a little less than $30.

Songs: Ohia: There was a 12” listed on the RSD list. I want to think that was an accidental leak, and not a typo. Someone said that this title had a “weird” distribution. I want to think it’s because of the confusion over which format to release ‘first’ on RSD. I am going to say that whatever gets released second will only be available through Molina’s webstore and a few other outles.

Nirvana: some 7” single collection box. I can’t believe the record labels aren’t milking the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death more than they are now. I am not going to rule out some RSD Black Friday release is in the cards for a last 20th Anniversary hurrah.

311: Just regular ol’ reissues. No numbering.

    MGMT: ditto.

LCD Soundsystem: 8 track. I really have no idea. I hope it’s just something that costs less than $100 and fits on a turntable.

What are YOUR ideas? Let's hear them. I love vinyl gossip!

  2. Grooves-inc is a legit store. I've ordered from there before. I even think they sell through Amazon. European sellers, though, have a different approach when it comes to defining what is "in stock."

European sellers never seem to be "out of stock" on something, but rather it's just on backorder. So, backorder for 4-6 days really means out of stock, which could mean gone for eternity. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

  3. I highly doubt they'd cut new plates. It's more cost effective for them (and I'm referring to whoever put this out, not sure who did but I imagine making money is their priority) just to put out a different colored variant. New sized sleeves, new plates, that isn't cheap and they'd absolutely use what they already have queued up. That GITD green was/is the RSD exclusive. Hell, it could even just be a solid black 10" repress.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if they pressed it at United. I swear these people melt down old shoes for the vinyl and make sure that there is at least one scratch on the vinyl before packaging it. I think RSD should list, in addition to listing how many records are pressed, WHERE it was pressed. My Soundgarden singles RSD and other recent releases (i.e., Cold War Kids) were pretty warped and marked up.

I am tired of getting hyped for a new release only to unravel the shrink, pull out the LP, and find that ghastly "U" inscribed in a circle.

Sorry this has turned into a crappy pressing plant rant....

  4. I haven't read the whole thread so I may have missed this site, but has anyone tried contacting these people?

They may just be lousy at updating their list. I bought Failure's Magnified from them on Black Friday over the 'phone, so they're legit. Apologies if this path has been travelled and found to be a dead end.

It's a local shop in my state. My fingers were like lazer beams the day after RSD to track down DCfC, but they were sold out. They're a pretty small Mom & Pop type outfit; they would probably have as much left over as your average local independent record store. I certainly know that they don't have all of what's listed. It's worth a call though...

  5. I notice all the "guests" on here too. I wish there were a way to privatize threads or something. Although, not sure how much that would deter people from just signing up. helluva hobby

Agreed. If it gets to the point where there are more guests than members in here, I am going to post shops selling rare 2014 RSD Nickelback 7" singles and Hannah Montana picture discs.

  6. Thanks so much! Just grabbed the last DCFC (I believe) via phone. So stoked I finally got ahold of a copy!!

No problem. Skully'z had all of the ones that got away this RSD. This year, I am officially out of the maw of eBay flippers!!!! Unless of course I decide not to bid on Jack White's Lazaretto, which can't be found anywhere else, really.

Here's my friendly advice to people still searching for that "elusive" disc:

Stop obsessively refreshing those familiar websites: BullMoose, Earcandy, Turntable Lab, Amoeba, etc. They are pushing the envelope in being "independent" record outfits anyway.

Instead, go out to RSD's participating venues at http://www.recordstoreday.com/Venues. Look at local record shops and then branch out from there. Find the listed shop's Facebook pages and find the phone numbers. Pick up that phone!

I've learned that in spite of it being 2014, a lot of truly independent record shops are still "low-tech" and do not have the capability to keep a live database (or even a website). In addition, posting leftover RSD stock to a site like Discogs is pretty expensive (8% + paypal fees), so I can see why small record shops go the Facebook route. Facebook is a very low-cost option to get the word out there.

See you in the crates next year! I'm praying for a DELUXE REISSUE OF MODEST MOUSE - LONESOME CROWDED WEST. Take that as a hint for instant $$$$ to the RSD organizers out there....

  7. Check Skully'z Recordz in NOLA (facebook search: skullyzrecordznola). I picked up DCfC for $32. Reasonable shipping. It has Pretty Lights listed, but I scored the last one. Good luck!

  8. Daily Death Cab for Cutie - Live 2012 Bump.

I actually had this album in my hands at RSD, but then PUT IT BACK. I was going through the RSD bins and didn't recognize the album by its cover art. I also forgot my glasses when I rushed out the door at 3 AM, so I couldn't read the TINY title print. By the time I went back for it, the LP was GONE! GONE! GONEEE!

Dear vinyl gods, I would like a SECOND CHANCE!!!

Or at least here's to the hope that the LP turns up in a limited quantity from the distributor who "misplaced" it over the next few months. I got the RSD 2012 RHCP Stadium Arcadium box that way, so luck might strike again!

  9. !//!Still Sealed!//!

Okay, so I ordered a copy of this box set thinking I would have this as an archive copy. However, the seller "forgot" to put it into a protective covering before shipping it. The box is still sealed, but has picked up some corner wear on its journey.

    Media condition: Mint

    Sleeve condition: VG+

Pressing info: Rock Action Records (EU) release. This is not the Sub Pop version.

  10. Thanks for checking....just got it in! The search gave me a lesson on crate digging in the 21st century. You would be amazed how "low-tech" record shops still are. After CALLING my third record store, because I could find NOTHING online, I was able to score a 1st press. Goes to show that if you want to score some sought-after vinyl, it pays to do it 1970s style...and PICK UP THE PHONE!!!!!
