"Time is absolute garbage . . . But here's the thing: given enough time, your friends are going to keep making records, you're going to keep listening to them, and if you're lucky, some of them are going to seep into the cracks of your day-to-day . . . Since its initial appearance as a private press double cassette in 2016, Annual Flowers in Color has been exactly this sort of talisman for me. More to the point, it's also the closest thing to a definitive statement in the twelve-year history of John Elliott's Imaginary Softwoods and a no-brainer on the thinking head's shortlist of Elliott's most essential releases, alongside Outer Space's Akashic Record (Events: 1986-1990)(SP 019LP, 2012), EmeraldsSolar Bridge (2008) and What Happened (EMEGO 109LP, 2010), Mist's House (SP 004CD/LP, 2011), Lilypad's Capacitor (2008), Colored Mushroom and the Medicine Rocks' self-titled LP (2010), and Quiet Light Water Gap's Live at the Delaware County VFW Hall (2010).

While each of these projects draws from the same reservoir of glittering pinpoint riffcraft and homespun surrealism and each reflects in its own fashion the awareness that a certain undercurrent of lurid horror is essential to all authentically psychedelic music, Imaginary Softwoods has always been distinguished in its relationship to a particular decades-long chain of private press loner music, or chamber music for shut-ins. You wouldn't necessarily be wrong to call Annual Flowers in Color 'deeply personal,' but that almost misses the point . . . it's handmade, human-scale domestic ritual music the making of which is inseparable from the sense in which it's been 'lived in.' . . .

Above all, Annual Flowers in Color is an absolutely gorgeous, perfectly weathered, subtly strange record. It's exactly the thing you're thinking of when you think 'I want to hear really killer polysynths and tape delay,' but it's also much more, glistening with distended reflections of Steve Roach and Stapleton, ringing with simultaneous sublimated echoes of the dorkiest and most expensive French mellotron prog and the most incandescent cheap heat from the $2 exotica bin, and dripping with the 'as above, so below' that characterizes synthesizer records at their best. It's both a welcoming point of entry for the uninitiated and a sticky, seductive cut deep enough to envelop any heads seeking a way station on the search for the apocryphal second volume of Cosmos Farm Sessions." --Chris Madak (Philadelphia, February 2020)

the thrash sabbatical box from deathbomb arc?

that's not actually kevin sheilds from my bloody valentine.

its eva aguila. the stuff she does solo is under the name kevin shields.

    sean mccann - "sincere world"

"Listening to new work from Sean McCann is always an exciting prospect. Go far back into this young pioneer's catalog and you'll without a doubt uncover a collection of music as diverse as it is long. What you may also notice is the consistency with which Sean portrays himself. His music is always fearless, frank and personal. Sincere World is another turn toward Sean's signature earnestness. Open Resolve and The Capital, both cleverly laced with swirling filter manipulation and confounding superimposition of manic and sloth-like compositions, exposed us to a more playful side of McCann's persona. These works are on the surface a bit zany, but deeper down they still maintain a charming character—something that draws the listener in magically. Sincere World is the somber younger brother to these two. Sincere World is adrift on Badalamenti-like lethargy, skeptical of the world around and unsure of what to do about it. But despite his bashfulness, he is every bit as charming and perhaps even more so, for there are no rough edges on him. In six movements, Sean takes us from under the bed to behind the bleachers and finally, to the bottom of the sea. Recorded mostly in 2009, Sincere World has after two years in hiding, finally mustered the audacity to come out into the open. This is the world Sean McCann lives in, and I want to do everything I can to live there too." - Michael Jantz

    lolwut

    Tyler doesn't sample at all.

Odd Toddlers from "BASTARD" has a sample in it .

Though, I'm not exactly sure what thewmatic is referring to with this

"They don't write songs they just take turns on obscure beats seeing who can have the most outlandish lyrics while sounding like they could care less about creating it."s

My guess is that they are referring to the Radical mixtape which is pretty much all samples.

Imaginary Softwoods - The Path of Spectrolite

The Path of Spectrolite is the latest full length recording from Imaginary Softwoods. Early comments have praised this album and state

that while this recording retains some if the icy drone sound from some previous Softwoods release, this is a great progression and a

bit more active. An extremely beautiful album entirely of sounds created by synthesizer and voice, this is an essential piece of the

  13. Agit Reader Review;

    http://www.agitreader.com/primitivefutures/providien-followed_by_a_wraith.html

    Providien

    Followed By a Wraith

    Amethyst Sunset

For those who have been following the myriad of releases from Amethyst Sunset, you are already aware of the noise scene’s Teutonic shift out of the caves, warehouses and art spaces and into the cosmos of psychedelia and even damaged loner folk. The label’s latest record comes from the depths of Columbus and the minds of Mark Van Fleet (half of the duo Sword Heaven) and his life-long confidant, Nathan Reynolds (who also plays in American Jobs).

Providien’s Followed By a Wraith shouldn’t be that much of a stretch for listeners used to Sword Heaven’s infernally primeval racket. The record does come with instructions “for private listening exclusively,” and from the outset, it’s apparent that Providien is not for the faint of heart. Even those used to noise and drone of this varietal may have trouble digging in, as there’s actually structure hiding underneath and actual songs being thrown into a well of despair—not typical of your average noise record. Followed By a Wraith isn’t your average noise record, starting with the confusion as to which speed this record should be played. I’ve come to discover that either pace will work, but 33⅓ is the norm, and as such, the album’s lead, “Red Man’s Vietnam” comes forth like the bellow from an ogre’s den.

Using a junk box including “radio, cassettes, and metals,” Van Fleet and Reynolds thrash in typically chaotic fashion. Tracks like “Group Birth” and “Samonella Bunker Blues,” are completely blown out, heavy electronic romps, with machines using up the last shot of adrenaline to lurch towards an uncomfortable demise. Those huge swaths of industrial clang and organ drone do well to counter the true underbelly of Followed By a Wraith. That side sometimes mirrors the downer sludge punk of Jim Shepard’s V-3 or, on “No Other,” the repetitious biker blues of Raven and Circuit Rider played in reverse, filling up the room with a choking exhaust, the fumes overpowering the improvised choogle. But as previously stated, Providien makes slow-motion shifts towards this new arena, usually obscuring these decrepit loner laments with a frightening amount of texture, be it feedback squall, distressed morse code or corrosives melting steel. However, when the curtain is drawn, as it is on “Next One,” Providien reveals a singular moaning voice and an out-of-tune acoustic guitar plucking out Jandekian minimalism to soul-bearing effect. Perhaps the greatest clue on Followed By a Wraith comes in the finale, “Keep Something,” where the duo cleans the slate and starts resembling the deep psych of Kraut pioneers like Ash Ra Tempel and Agitation Free (or to us a more current reference, like the mammoth awakening of Emeralds). If one were to take the title literally, the wraith following these two around is pointing them in the direction of a new frontier, a plane where noise and psych and organic wallowing can co-exist, a world both beautiful and disturbing.

I went with my sister and between us we ordered Saigon Rolls, Kung Pao, Pho.

They brought out the golden nuggets to us by mistake instead of saigon rolls.

i thought the nuggets were good.

I was pretty into the kung pao too.

(i'm pretty sure i parked right next to you and was getting out of my car the same time you were)

    PROVIDIEN

    "FOLLOWED BY A WRAITH"

    AMETHYST SUNSET 008

“The Midwest is a real Shangri-la for bohemia basement bleakness so it’s not real surprising that loner tape grime duo PROVIDIEN hail from the snow-blasted state of Ohio, and have a grim grassroots aura that just feels RIGHT. Led by Sword Heaven electrician Mark Van Fleet and partner-in-crime/childhood friend Nathan Reynolds (also of weirdo goths American Jobs), PROVIDIEN’s debut, “Followed By A Wraith”, sprawls from disembodied horror atmospherics to no-fi sludge death marches to pure weirdo home-taper acoustic guitar meltdowns, each new zone more unsettling and brainwashed than the last. Has elements of Mammal (especially the recent drone-suicide ballads), The Shadow Ring (just replace all the British stuff with raw American sloth), and various other esoteric cassette miserablists, but that’s just a roundabout way of saying this shit rules.”
