Hey look, someone who thinks he knows me!

This is coming from a fan who's seen the band so many times over the last...almost two decades (holy shit!) and loved every one of their albums except Codes & Keys...
First off: the album art is terrible. Like, really, really bad. What the fuck were they thinking?
And the single is crap. Sounds way too muddy through my headphones (LCD 2.2s, in case anyone blames it on shitty equipment). The production is all over the place, feels very 90s-pop and I'm really not a fan of the chanting song name thing. Comment/person above is totally right in saying that Gibbard's voice is lost in all this noise, which has always been one of the band's strengths. Bleh. Not good. Super disappointing after reading everywhere that this would be their "return to form" post-Walla.
WHAT IS THAT ARTWORK?!?!?! -
Their self-titled isn't nearly as bad as people say. If anything, it would have been much worse with Carlos still in the mix - he apparently wanted to use more synths and keys on the record, and the rest of the band essentially re-wrote the whole thing once he decided to leave. In an interview a few years ago, Carlos mentioned that when he heard the record for the first time, he couldn't recognize any of it because so much of it had changed.
I'm all for his bass lines and he had so many great ones when he was in the band, but I think the balance between the rhythm section and Kessler's guitar is really what makes them stick out nowadays.Excited for this.

Glad I waited. I almost pulled the trigger on the standard edtion many times but it'll be nice to have the deluxe. Ive heard alot of good things about the album. This will be my first Nils album on vinyl
The extra LP it comes with is phenomenal. I liked it better than the actual record (All Melody), but I prefer his softer, melody-driven piano tracks.

Sweet, thanks for this. These ladies are amazing! Price is a little steep so I might hold off until later this week.
Now if only mum would re-issue Finally We Are No One...... -
I miss the math-rock. This single is so boring.

Were you present for the AM discussion in the VMP thread, by chance?
No, why?

Their past 2 albums had some cringe worthy song titles as well.
Like what? The only one I can think of would be "R U Mine?", and even then, it's a great track. Not all that cringeworthy IMO.
Jesus, I had no idea so many disliked these guys. Personally, I feel like they're one of the only "big" bands that haven't completely fallen off and continue to release solid albums. -

I read about this this morning. Seems a fitting time to reissue his debut. I wonder if we'll ever see a proper recording/release of his unused scores for Mother! and Blade Runner 2049.
I hope so, but I wouldn't count on it. Has anyone heard any news as to how he passed? It was so sudden - I couldn't believe it when I read the news in the early morning.

Saw these guys last night and was so happy I decided to suck it up and leave my house on a Monday night. It was a really amazing show and the lads were all kind enough to sign copies of Under Summer and A Sun Coloured Shaker for me.
The outro to "This Very Flight" is incredible live - they walk around the crowd with these hand chimes to play the piano melody. It's nuts. -

The .wav downloads the come with the All Melody LP from Erased Tapes are 24bit-96kHz.
Pretty stoked about that! Totally unexpected.IIRC, everything from Erased Tapes comes with the option of mp3 or the 24bit wav files. It's pretty sweet.

Received my copy today from Rough Trade UK. Turns out they received the extra "Encores" LP late and had to delay shipping the set. Still, items shipped from the UK to Montreal in less than a week - I love Royal Mail!
Anyway, just about finished the first proper listen (aside from the NPR stream) and I'm really enjoying this direction Nils is taking. Definitely don't want to miss him when he's in town in March - think it will be incredible to see/hear this whole set up.
On a side note, does anyone have any idea if there's a way to obtain a digital copy of the exclusive Encores LP? I was hoping there would be a download code for it inside the packaging but I can't seem to find anything and it's not listed on the Erased Tapes site, even though its labeled as its own release, ERATP107, on the spine.

Vinyl is delayed until Feb. 9, so I've heard.
Was wondering why I haven't heard anything from Rough Trade about the 3XLP. Where did you hear this?

27 minutes in so far. It's interesting, and definitely some new sounds from him. The choir in some tracks is a really surprising addition.

Got mine from ANOST, not Sonic Pieces, but yes I did get ship note.
Funny but sad story, I had been waiting to PO from SP for over a week, I'd literally refresh the page every hour, which I had up permanently on my laptop. One day I got so caught up in my studio work for nearly 8 hours I forgot to check. When I did afterwards, they had already sold out. Lucky I was able to grab one from ANOST before they went as well.
I did the exact same thing, haha. At one point I got worried that I would miss out from SP, so I just went with anost. Did you get a tracking number from them? My email confirmation is in German and doesn't seem to have any tracking info.

Got my copy of "One Day I'll Be On Time". It looks beautiful and sounds great aside from a few pops. Probably just my needle, though. When the drums kick in on "The MP"......ouf. So good.
Really happy with it! Sucks about the gold but these pink/white variants are lovely.

Saw them in Montreal on November 11th. They were incredible, couldn't believe how clean everything sounded with so many of them on such a small stage. I'm so happy I finally managed to see them...something to tell the grandkids!
New songs were great live as well. -
Sold out on Sonic Pieces' webshop now. That went fast!

Go, go, go...27 left over at ANOST
I fucking love you. THANK YOU!
Edit: ordered right away. I'm curious as to how you knew how many were left? Does it say anywhere after ordering?
Also, FYI to anyone that orders from ANOST, they sent out a link a few minutes later to download the album. Super excited to give it a full listen (the first three tracks are lovely).

Nice to hear an update about these - I ordered a copy of One Day... as soon as I heard the news. It really looks beautiful with that pink/white swirl! Can't wait for mailday.

The new Otto A Totland LP is now up on Sonic Pieces listed as "coming soon".
This is killing me. Monique hasn't answered anyone's questions about when pre-order starts. Is it December 1st for pre-order or the actual release day? I CAN'T HANDLE THIS!

The new Otto A Toteland is already available for PO from US distro Forced Exposure.
Just put my order in.

Thanks for this, but it doesn't sound like the standard packaging treatment SP usually does with their first editions. I'm going to hold out for a little before ordering..

rough trade has a US distro now
also, it seems like the rough trade exclusive LP will be separate and just an add on disk to the standard version based off the description. anyone?
Yup, but ordering from their U.S. site is still $67 Canadian dollaroonies, compared to $60 through the UK store.
And yeah, seems like it's an add-on LP with bonus tracks. Otherwise, no change from the Erased Tapes released. Still got it. More Frahm, fam.

That's the offensive part. It just looks like they don't give a fuck anymore.
