  1. Is the Danny Brown still available? If so...

Finances are tight atm as saving for an upcoming wedding in Thailand so I temporarily canceled my VMP account last month.

However, AE is one of my favorite albums of the year and I have sealed copies of the new Wilco (pink) or Ride: Best of (BF Red) that I'd be willing to trade. You might even be able to talk be out of the Orange High Fidelity soundtrack or Flume's marbled purple variant of Skin.

For the record, I'd trade any of these for a new copy of White Stripes: Elephant too.

Anyone ever figured the difference between Purple Marble and Purple Swirl?

I accidentally wound up with copies of both  (long story) .  The one with white swirl is far prettier.

Wish there were seperate discog enteries for them as I'm probably gonna sell the other one off so I can replace my copy of Elephant that recently got scratched to shit.

For the record, its impossible to distinguish between the two via the packaging but the matrix numbers are different.  Both seem to be Mom & Pop pressings (aka from the US).

Oh, and both sound phenominal.  I'll post pictures momentarily.

  5. Hello guys,

My Debut Carbon turntable came with a 3 ft. input/output audio cable that had a ground wire built into it.   I recently moved and that cable in now too short for the setup.     It's obviously pretty easy to find a replacement red/white aux cable in 6 or 10 ft sizes but I'm really struggling to find one that includes a ground cable.   I called Amoeba to ask about whether they sold any and was told it's really rare to find a ground cable over 3 ft.

Does anybody know if this is correct and/or a good place to go in the Los Angeles area if I want to buy a new one?    I'm pretty broke at the moment so I'd like to avoid going over $30 but also feel that the one cable I'm seeing on Amazon is probably too cheap and of questionable sound quality.    Thoughts?

They don't, which is insane.  On the Paak they retroactively limited it to 2 per person I think, but I'm not sure why they don't do that across the board...unless it's for that dirty secret of many labels: they don't give a shit about flippers, as long as they're moving units.

They used not to.  When they changed up the website format store, they began limiting it to 2 per order I believe.  With Paak, they retroactively switched it to one per person.

  7. Personally, I think they do an AWESOME job of curating AoTM especially as their budget has grown.  But I'm also somebody who likes pretty much anything that isn't country or bubblegum pop.   I haven't utilized a swap in the past 5 months.

My guess is that crate membership is causing problems for them by causing exclusives to sell out at a rapid-fire pace while leaving them stuck with extra inventory on the AotM.    If you go over the forums for the site, you'll see that most people there are very happy with their AoTM membership but are frustrated with the recent difficultly in obtaining albums like Venice, Avalanches, ext.

all shipping costs are worked into the total price of each shop item or AOTM for US buyers.

just saying they should waive the crate fee from the store if they are shipping both types of orders together.  if i'm not mistaken, their whole push for that $6/mo fee was that it was the shipping cost basically (and to see what's in the store)

This makes no sense to me.  If you are crate, you aren't necessarily ordering the AotM.  In fact, you probably aren't or why wouldn't you just get that AotM and avoid the 6 dollar fee...   They almost always ship both store purchases and the AotM together, thus, you could view it as paying $21 for the AotM plus 6 dollars shipping for it and whatever other purchases you make that month.   It's WHY they ship everything together.

If you are only buying from the store via a crate then, yes, that six dollars is basically your shipping fee.   That, and as somebody else pointed out, you are helping pay for the overhead of their employees, ext.

Thanks! I took it in this weekend and found the same observations. The guest tracks appear to break up any flow from the solo tracks. Feels more like a collection of songs then an album. Still some great moments.

To start, I've always been a pretty big Flume fan. My opinion of Skin:

    1. Flume continues to push the envelope on new electronic sounds and melodies you won't hear from anyone else. Definitely some killer tracks on the album that are great as standalone tracks (Never Be Like You, Take A Chance, Lose It).

    2. Listening from start to finish, there doesn't seem to be any cohesion between the tracks like what you found on his debut album. Seems very clunky at times which is a little frustrating considering he's a DJ and should be aware of how important transitions are.

I think it's worlds better than his first album.... It and Kaytranada are hands down my favorite Electronica albums of the year thus far.

  10. Stoked on the BBNG.  How did people wind up feeling about the Wells Fargo release musically?  Got any comps for it?   I dig classic rock ala Can, Hendrix, SRV, ext so I feel like it might be up my ally.

I'm thinking of doing the 3 month subscription but wanna make sure there is something I would swap out for in the case I don't like one of the next two releases.

I'm embarrassed that I let me enthusiasm for this get the best of me.  I'm even more ashamed for not canceling when I realized this was going to be the shit show it is.

    Confession over.

I've actually lost a bit of respect for Kendrick over this whole deal.

Granted if he did sign them that's a but different as I'm sure his wrist was beyond limp pretty quickly.  But the way everything was handled was skeezy enough to make you think an intern was the likely scenario.

  12. Thanks for the replies.

In regards to cleaning the stylus... I have a little flat stylus cleaner that my father gave me-- brand name LAST.   I just run it along the stylus toward me pulling off the dust.   Probably do it a couple times a week.  I would up switching out the stylus and everything sounds good again so I'm gonna presume the needle was worn.  I did hold onto it though in case you guys really think their is a different approach to cleaning I should be taking.

I should have trusted my gut and changed out the needle a couple of months ago before any of these issues cropped up.  It probably had a good 500 hours of use on it.   The sibilance first appeared on a copy of Marshall Mathers LP 2 that I bought around a month ago.   I just figured it was the album-- but then gradually started noticing it on random LP's I already own.   The final straw was a hiss filled play through of White Stripe's Elephant that included one of the loudest pops I've ever heard.   When I put the album on tonight, I realized that pop had caused a chip in the record and it now skips.

All this to say, lessons in vinyl collecting can be expensive.   But damn if I ain't still addicted.

  13. Hey guys, I've had a Debut Carbon turntable for about 1 1/2 years now.   Recently, I've started getting distortion on S sounds when certain records are playing.   I had ventured into Amoeba a couple months back to ask about how often I should be changing the needle (I play probably a record or two a day on average).  They had said that on a Carbon I should be good for a couple of years...

Is the distortion I'm now hearing an indication that it is, indeed, time to change out the needle/cartridge?   Could it be something else?  And how much damage is it liable to be doing to my records in the meantime?

    Thanks,

    Casey

Lots of noise, distortion and pops on my white copy. :(

Purchased in Birmingham AL but am thinking about returning it.

Been worried bout that... the vinyl being white and all.  Anybody swung through Amoeba today and seen if they have copies?
