  1. So I have all of these vintage posters that I'm going to be sending to off to be auctioned, but there are a few I really love. There's a Hendrix poster that absolutely stings to be getting rid of, but since it's not "mine" and it's incrddibly valuable...it has to go.

It's blue on a white background, from the last ever Michigan appearance of the Jimi Hendrix Experience at IMA Auditorium in Flint. I've never seen a reproduction, or even a full size copy for sale online. There are postcard sized prints and those go for outrageous money, too.

What I'm wondering is if I might be able to take it to a print shop and have a decent copy made. Just so I can have one for myself to stick on the wall. I'm not sure what i'd ask for or if it's possible or if they'd do it... All I know is, it's too cool to let go of, but way too expensive for me to just keep.

  2. I'm a huge fan of a lot of 70s music...but something HAPPENED that decade where rock and roll turned into the whitest fucking thing ever. I blame arena bands.

I don't want that to detract from what I think are some of the best written/performed/arranged rock songs ever. No matter how many times I hear "Billion Dollar Babies," it still gives me chills, and I am not a fan of Donovan in general.

I also think a lot of music sounds a lot more stiff and forced these days.

  3. My absolute favorite piece of band merch is a Co&Ca hoodie from the Second Stage Turbine Blade tour, with the album art on the back. It was still back in the days when the band members were selling their own merch - I bought it right from Claudio. I was woefully underdressed that night, because during the show, which was in a basement venue, we had this huge snowstorm. When people opened the door to leave, it just poured down the stairs. They missed the next couple of nights of tour (I think they were supposed to be in Buffalo next) and my girlfriend and I were stranded in Detroit, where a desk clerk at a hotel gave us a room for super cheap.

I thought I had lost it one day when I rode my bike to work and didn't have it when I got there. Luckily I had only dropped it in the hall right outside my door. It might seem silly, but I just have good memories associated with it.

  4. Fit was my number one concern. Someone posted pictures of the one they received and it's just as good as all of the other winter classic fakes I've seen - I'm assuming they all came from the same place. Either way I took a shot and ordered an Yzerman one, partially because if it didn't fit, I figured I could flip it easily enough. If it works out well, I'm going back for an Abdelkader one.

There are a hell of a lot of them, at least for the Wings, that are just too obviously fake from the pics. Wrong lettering, block letters instead of arched, colors that are off, etc.

  5. I love hollowbody guitars, offset solid body guitars, and single coil pickups. I'm thinking my next instrument will either be a mapleglo ric 330, a cognac burst godin kingpin cwII, or a Jazzmaster. It will probably come down to what I find the best deal on, though the Godin would probably be the most practical for the two solo shows I play a year (currently using a Gretsch G5120).
