  1. I feel fucking lamer just for having read this thread.
  2. Listening to the pic disc right now. Has all same 9 songs on both sides from what I can tell, lots of Melvin singing.
  3. Dude, thank you, this had been added to my "want but will probably never have list", a short, sad list for my record collection's shattered dreams. btw, any idea if these guys will ever record as middle bro again?
  4. Sweet, Thank You! Will there be a problem if I order 2? I don't want to be greedy, this will be the best xmas present my brother ever got. Thanks Chuck
  5. $25 is unreasonable for two 180g Pallas LPs, a Stoughton gatefold jacket, and a CD? Hmmm, well a couple of considerations I have for calling this "unreasonable": 1. As I mentioned, the CD is pretty much a no value added feature in my mind 2. I'm sure that this fancy German pressing plant and fancy paper company are great, and sure I want good-sounding well-packaged stuff, but I own lots of 180g records that look and sound really great that didn't cost $25, so not sure this is a huge upsell either Perhaps my biggest reason is that when I think of preordering something without hearing it first, there better be a really good reason (ltd special edition, extra 7", etc). Or, offer a really good incentive price to get me to buy it. In this case, none of this was done, they are just offering the same product that you will be able to get 4 months from now after you've had a chance to really listen to the album, except for $10 more. So I guess I'm not necessarily saying the product is not worth $25, I'm saying it is unreasonable for them to expect people to pay this much on just the hopes that the songs and package are great. I'm sure I'll end up grabbing this sometime, but with what is offered here, I'm in no rush. (and fuck what is with the tote bags and shit, reminds me of the "moychendizing" scene from spaceballs)
  6. This. Especially when you'll be able to get it for $10 cheaper once it hits the big box stores with sales. $25 is just unreasonable unless you're going to add something cool in with it. A CD of the album is hardly a bonus, more of a pain in the ass for the sleeves to get caught on when putting them back in the cover than anything. I haven't owned a cd player in over 5 years.
  7. http://search.hottopic.com/search?p=Q&lb....core&tab=music Yeah, these ones just came out, strangely Rhino's site says they don't come out until 8/8. Stoked that those weren't the ones you were talking about... I linked HT because that's where I got them from. $15.99 - 15% with coupon is about $13.50 per record, which is pretty awesome for brand new 180g pressings. These are $26 from Rhino's site (you get an extra 7 inch from there too)...
  8. Are you talking about the recent 180 gram Ramones pressings that just came out, or the $10 ones from a few years back that were sourced from cd? I just ordered all 4 new ones yesterday and will be bummed they don't sound good, as they were marketed as being pressed and mastered straight from the tapes. If these new ones are the ones you are referring to, could you elaborate on the issues with them?
  9. here is some history on them: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Smashmouth_%28indie_rock_band%29 It was Steve Pedersen and Clint Schnase, both of whom helped start Cursive but haven't been in it for a long time I don't think. You should check out Steve Pedersen's bands after this too, The White Octave and Criteria if you haven't, they're good. The tape was called "Some of You Will be Hermits", and I do have a tape rip to mp3 that I can send you, I don't think Saddle Creek would mind (I got it from them directly when Direct Connect, a p2p platform, was popular). I was told they recorded a second tape as well, and that it never came out. I would love to check that out if anyone out there has some connections. Saddle Creek (Lumberjack) should really archive some of their old releases for people to grab online since they're out of print, and many are very good, and of historical significance to some I would say.
  10. Got this today like many of you, I would imagine. The orange swirl disc one is really beautiful (black, blue, red, orange, yellow), one of the nicest fat releases in recent memory, right up there with the decline yellow press. The gatefold package is really nice too. I am all in favor of Fat starting to charge more for these, especially if it means they are able to start stepping up with the vinyl color quality, art and packaging quality, and record weight. I understand they have wanted to go for the "punk" thing and have had generally inexpensive, cheap looking records in the past. With the advent of mp3s and all, those of us who still spend good money on physical media/vinyl aren't buying music just for the music, but for the experience and aesthetic of the packaging and vinyl. This holds especially true for music that was just digitally recorded anyways. It is cool that they still offer a less expensive black version too, which at $14 for a double lp gatefold is pretty awesome tl;dr: I'm drunk and rambling, 1st disc is really nice orange swirl, i'm cool with the new prices if Fat is stepping up the quality too
  11. In about 1994 I went to see a band called Smash Mouth (eventual members of Cursive, not the pop band) at a club called the Cog Factory in Omaha. I bought their cassette when one of the band members came around selling them, it was on a label called Lumberjack records, and it was pretty so-so, but I kept listening to it and started liking it. About 4 years later the tape broke by coming unattached from the wheel on the inside, so I sent it to the address on the cassette with a couple bucks to try to get a new one, fully expecting the label to be no more (as was mailorder before the internet), and to never hear of it again. About a month later, I got a new tape, with a 3 page handwritten letter saying that they apologize for the quality of their cassettes, and then just talking about their favorite bands and stuff I should check out. Lumberjack became Saddle Creek eventually, and I have been ordering from them ever since. Always great sounding, great artwork, and well packaged.
  12. There is a European 2LP pressing that costs £45, which is either 2 LPs at 45rpm, or the first record is the regular record and the second is instrumentals. It also comes with a screenprint and tshirt or something like that. Either way, there are single LPs that are available for much less than that. Still, £45 is a lot for a double LP with screenprint poster, and I've been listening to this for the last few days and while it's a good record, I'm thinking this thing is getting pretty overhyped for what it is.
  13. Guys Insound has a PO on Arabia Mountain on Marble vinyl plus bonus 7", Limited to 300.... (Edit: Actually 2000 pressed, available other places) http://www.insound.com/Arabia-Mountain-Limited-Edition-LP-and-7inch-Black-Lips/P/INS94995/ Chuck
  14. Sweet, thanks! that calms me down a bit, for today at least
