  1. What is it that that you don't like about the record? Is it the solid song writing or the lack of cheesy street punk bits? I feel like there is a huge difference between a rancid fan that listens to Rancid and a Rancid fan that listens to what Rancid listens to. I simply relate more to this record than anything they've done in the past. "Up To No Good", "I Ain't Worried", "Lulu", "Liberty and Freedom", and "That's Just The Way It Is Now" are some the best and most interesting songs they've ever recorded. I know everyone is crazy about the fast, pissed off sounding Rancid tracks of the past, but when you think about it, that's never what made Rancid great. What made Rancid great is their heavy Jamaican influence mixed with classic American and British punk sounds. They play punk the way The Clash played punk. If you want to listen to street punk or hardcore, there's plenty of bands that do that stuff a lot better than Rancid. If you want to listen to something exciting, inspired, culturally relevant and well... listenable, I think that the newest LP is fucking fantastic.
  2. I'm sure this record has already been discussed and I missed it, but I feel obligated to discuss it further. Rancid is, in my opinion, the greatest contemporary punk band in America and "Let The Dominoes Fall" is, in my opinion, their greatest record ever. I've loved Rancid since I was really young but in the last few years I've felt a slight lack of interest in the group. I felt like "Life Wont Wait" was doomed to be their last great record, but with "Let The Dominoes Fall" my hope in the band was not only revived, but I have more faith in them than ever. I love the heavy, heavy DUB influence on this release, as well as the Dylan/Springstein/Americana style story telling. I love how acoustic guitars follow straight reggae songs. I love how they are focusing more on singing and less on shouting. I love how they sound harder than ever, but the songs aren't at all heavy. I feel like this is the album they've always been trying to write, but in the past have fallen short. Everything about this record is what makes Rancid great. I picked the album up the day it came out and it's stuck with me ever since. I just can't get enough of it. An unbelievable record.
  3. Now that I know this is Brent Bailey I know for a fact that you have too many records. Start selling them to me, please.
  4. For me there is a limit for sure. When I own albums that I don't even enjoy and will never listen to, it's time to slim down.
  5. Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens - What Have You Done My Brother?
  6. Thanks for letting a Houston band stay with you : ) They ARE very, very nice kids. One of the most hard working bands around.
  7. Wow, I had no idea FYE was still in business. Those prices don't seem TOO outrageous, though. I think we're all used to punk prices. I work for a small record shop and our prices seem pretty on par with FYE. Kind of sucks, but now that big time chains are stocking vinyl all the labels are raising their wholesale prices(and not just for the chains), so even the indie stores are forced to raise their retail prices.
  8. As someone who read the comic book first, I was ready to hate the movie. But honestly, the movie couldn't be any better. It's a lot different than the book but they're both great in their own way. I highly recommend both. I've got my Enid toy sitting on top of my record shelf, haha.
  9. We're happy to announce that we'll be releasing a new Something Fierce 7" that should be out within about two months. The record will have our favorite track from their newest LP along with a cover of "Spray Coat" by Texas punk legends, Party Owls. This is a record you don't want to miss out on! Buzzcocks, Clash and Marked Men fans apply here. We are genuinely proud of this release and we can't wait to get these in. We'll keep you posted and should have the record layout, art, and details soon. Also, don't forget that the debut Teenage Kicks LP will be out within weeks. This record features 11 tracks of contemporary punk that's comparable to Protex, The Jam, The Clash, and Stiff Little Fingers. Blessedly un-ironic, youthful, and energetic. 10. Hi, Action Town is a new Houston based record label. Our first real release is a split-release with Aaron Danger's Team Science Records. We're very excited about releasing the debut(and final) Teenage Kicks LP. Teenage Kicks play punk music that's youthful, energetic, and intelligent. Fans of "Setting Songs" by The Jam, early Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Exploding Hearts, and The Chords apply here. The album was recorded by Chris Ryan(Secret Prostitutes) at Dead City Sound and mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering. Pre-orders will be available soon. - Action Town
